Vanessa Sterling sat on a bench across from the playground, designer sunglasses hiding her eyes, expensive coffee untouched in her hand.
She'd been following them for weeks.
Watching.
Waiting.
Hating every single moment.
Across the playground, Kael Everhart pushed a little girl on a swing—his daughter, Lily. The child squealed with delight, her laughter carrying across the park.
"Higher, Mer-daddy! Higher!"
Mer-daddy.
The word made Vanessa's jaw clench.
On the nearby grass, Asher Quinn-Park sat on a picnic blanket with the other twin—Kai—helping him with what looked like a sketchbook.
They looked like.... A family
The family Vanessa was supposed to have.
"One more time!" Lily begged as Kael slowed the swing.
"Alright, but this is the last one. Then we need to have our picnic before the ants get to it."
"Okay!"
