The arrival of the merchant caravan sent waves of excitement through Blue Grass Shelter. Survivors gathered quickly… These thirty or so people had never seen anything like this before.
The three wagons rolled into the settlement, each guarded by a dozen heavily armed men. The guards weren't ordinary fighters… they carried a strange device strapped to their belts, a box with antennae that pulsed faintly with blue light.
Vera and the others exchanged glances.
"Signal jammers," someone muttered. "That must be how they avoid detection from the A.I. Army."
In this apocalyptic world, where flying drones, Sentinels, and other A.I. Units scoured the land for survivors, such a device was priceless. The caravan's safe arrival meant these merchants had mastered survival in ways few others had.
