Chapter 1 - It All Begins

Len sat down on the grass, he was out with his boss' cattle in the field. The cool breeze swept through his hair. He stared at the cattle for a long while and then sighed.

'Another one's gone missing. Seems like I'll get screamed at yet again.' He thought as he laid down on the grass.

It's been ten years since his father died and he left a debt of two million Zun for him in his will. Len always tried to forget about it but when the debt collectors came around to where he lived they always take away something valuable as he never had enough money to make up for that month.

'What a waste of a life I have. I should have died along with my mother on the day I was born.' Len stretched out and then stared at the herd again counting each and everyone of them.

"Oh! They're complete, that's nice to see." He got up and picked up his cane, leading them back to their owner. He opened up the barn and led them all inside.

He turned around and saw a short stumpy man staring at him angrily.

"So you brought them all back today eh?" The man asked.

"Yes." Len answered.

"Alright." The man dipped his hands in his pockets and brought out a pouch he tossed it to Len who caught it easily.

Len shook it and raised his right eyebrow. 'It's heavier than usual,' he thought to himself.

"Um, thank you Sir Ritcher." Len bowed and then started walking away. As he walked he counted the coins in the pouch.

"... Ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen," and then he stopped. "Just 15 Zun today eh… Well, that's the end of this month then."

He walked into bamboo shack he had built for himself a year earlier, some parts of the wall had already been sold off to pay of last month's debt and now he had one part of his home open to the world.

He lay down waiting for the debt collector to arrive. This would be the fourth month in a row that he hadn't been able to pay fully.

He closed his eyes to sleep for a while before then. He awoke when shadows loomed over him his eyes flickered open and he saw the debt collector as well as his two guards standing on each side.

Both guards were men who could only be described as bodybuilders. They had honed their muscles to the pinnacle of its power and now no one in the Samerian district could stand up to the both of them.

"Good evening Mr. Damon." Len greeted the man standing in the middle. The man's body was fairly average looking but Len could always sense that Damon was stronger than both of his guards.

He couldn't quite place his finger on it but Damon always had a kind of aura around him that made Len shiver when he made eye contact with him.

"I hope my money's complete for this month Len Norman or else as I've told you before, I'm going to do something worse to you that'll make you pay me in full every month." Damon said while cleaning his face with a handkerchief.

Len sighed and then spoke, "I was only able to gather up to Twenty Zun for this month."

Damon frowned a little and then breathed out, he smiled. "But our agreement was Thirty Zun every month until I get my Two Million, so why don't you meet it?"

"Well sir, the jobs around this area don't pay very well and most of the people around say they don't trust me because of what my father did to them in the past." Len replied.

"Ha ha ha!" Damon laughed at the top of his voice, "Well that was because of what your father was, he was a thief so it's only natural that people would think the son of a thief is also a thief as the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

Len's eyes went downcast, he bit his lower lip as he heard down trying to hold down his anger.

"Now, as I was saying," Damon continued, "I told you last month that if you failed to pay in full then I'll do something to you that you would never forget."

He snapped his fingers twice and then his two guards held both of Len's arms.

"What's going on sir?" Len asked.

"Oh nothing much, I'm just going to beat you up to the point that no one would remember who you are." Damon replied.

Damon stood battle ready, Len could sense that he was different and that Damon was getting stronger. Damon threw a punch at Len's stomach which immediately made him cough out blood and knocked him unconscious.

Len woke up to find himself in a deep dark abyss. "Hello!" He screamed at the top of his lungs but couldn't even hear his own voice.

He walked looked around at the abyss which was endless wherever he looked, he turned to his left and saw rays of light coming from that direction. He walked towards it hoping to see the end of this abyss but to his surprise, all he saw was a ball of light floating in place.

He walked forward and stretched out his hand trying to touch it but something was in the way. It felt like both a wall and a cloth. He kept on trying to get it out of his way but to no avail.

He then stopped trying and kept staring at the light. 'This wasn't how it was supposed to be. Why did Dad have to die when he did?' Len's thoughts flew around.

'Now here I am as a punching bag for some middle-aged man and his goons just because of a debt my father owed, a debt I didn't know of,' Len fumed. 'Making the son pay for the sins of the father.'

Then he sighed, calming himself down. 'I need to be calm. If the people of the world don't want me then I will not want them, I'll live for me and me alone not giving a damn about what anyone else would think.'

He stared at the boundary between himself and the ball of light and saw that it had begun to faintly glow, he stretched out his hand and then touched it.

He woke up, his body felt cold as his eyes flickered open but then again it felt different, it was like his body was free but also in tears at the same time.

He looked at his stomach to see that the bruises on his stomach had healed, he could feel strength well up in his body.

He tried stretching his arms apart, as soon as he did that the ropes cut and he was free. He looked around for a weapon and found a crowbar covered in blood. He took it and walked out of the room.

As soon as he opened the door he was met with a cold, dark corridor which seemed to stretch out endlessly he turned left and then started walking in that direction he was met with another turn but he heard some voices.

"Boss said we should kill him today right?" One of the voices said.

"Yes Dale, he's been asleep for two weeks now and the people of the Samerian district gave up looking for him a week and a half ago." The other voice said.

'Curse them!' Len fumed in his mind. He looked around for a way to move past them without them knowing but he couldn't find one.

Len sighed seeing as he would have to fight his way out of the building with no prior experience whatsoever.

'Seems like this is how I die,' and then he stopped, 'No! I'm going to show all of them that I'm better than them all so dying here is not an option.'

"Hey!" Len walks out of his hiding place with the crowbar in hand. Both of Damon's guards stand guarding a door.

'That seems to be the exit,' Len thinks to himself and readies for battle.

"Get him Dale!" One of them shouted.

"With pleasure Robert." Dale replied as he ran towards Len. His movements caused a sonic boom as he sped towards Len, landing a hard punch on his abdomen.

Len flew backwards, the crowbar flying out of his hand and his body crashing into a wooden chair completely shattering it.

He stood up, the pain in his body unbearable but he was still alive. He lunged forward at Dale with a punch which Dale didn't even bother to dodge and to his surprise, he was sent flying backwards through the door breaking it and with that Len saw the open road.

After the punch to Dale, Len's body felt relaxes. He no longer felt any pain at all. "What just happened?" He asked.

Robert stared at Dale on the ground, the latter picking himself up from Len's punch.

"Do you think he's become like the boss?" Dale asked as he walked back into the building.

"It seems so," Robert reply cracking his fists, "which means we won't have to hold back anymore."

Both of them charged at him, each time they moved it was as if a huge explosion went off. Len couldn't track their movements his eyes moved all around the room but he was getting hit on all corners.

'Shit, shit, shit, shit. Stop!' he screamed in his mind. The moment he did that the time seemed to slow down around him and he could see both Robert and Dale clearly with both of them coming at him from opposite sides.

Len swung his fists in opposite direction, one for each opponent and as he did so time returned to it's original state for Robert and Dale and they moved at their original speeds once more as they ran into Len's outstretched fists.

The impact shook the entire building, Robert went flying outside the building while Dale flew through a wall that fell upon him as it broke.

Len knelt down, his pain gone but he was incredibly fatigued. 'What did I just do?' He asked himself, he mustered his remaining strength and walked to where Dale had fallen.

He tore the rubble away brick by brick looking for the body of the human mammoth, he finally found it. Len placed his hand on Dale's neck to check his pulse if he was still alive. He could feel it, he was alive but barely.

Len frowned, he got up and looked around. He saw the crowbar on the ground and picked it up and then walked back to Dale, he stood over his unconscious body without any emotion at all.

He raised the crowbar over his head then brought it down upon Dale's head, hitting it again and again and again until the back of his head tore open. He knelt down next to Dale once again placing his hand on his neck to check if he was still alive.

It had stopped. Good.

He searched Dale's pockets for anything valuable, he found a pouch full of Zun, he counted it and found two thousand Zun inside it and also found a golden pocket watch.

"This'll fetch a good amount in the market." Len said to himself as his attention turned to Robert.

He walked to the door, he stood there staring at Robert's body. He repeated the same procedure he did with Dale and then took all of Robert's valuable possessions which were a pouch full of Zun which he couldn't completely count but it numbered up to four thousand, a diamond necklace and a note.

"To the love of my life Alicia, I know I won't be there when my beautiful daughter Michelle graduates from school but I got her something. A diamond plated necklace worth twenty thousand Zun, I've been saving money for this for my baby's special day, tell her daddy said hello. Love your super man."

Len read the entire letter and not once did he feel remorseful, nor did he even care about what he has just done. He stared at the letter and then tore it up dropping

the pieces on Robert's lifeless body.

He dropped the crowbar next to him as well before leaving the premises with his spoils of battle.
