Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Maybe Today Is That Day

Morning sunlight washed over the city, soft and pale, touching rooftops and streets as the day slowly came alive. Cars moved steadily below, people walked to work.

On the edge of a tall building, a seventeen-year-old boy sat with his legs dangling freely above the streets.

In one hand, he held a cold drink can, nearly finished. In the other, he held a phone, its camera pointed toward his face. He adjusted the angle slightly, then tapped the screen.

"Recording."

He took a breath, steadying himself.

Boy: "Alright…" he said, forcing confidence into his voice.

Boy: "This is my personal documentary."

He looked straight into the camera.

Boy: "My name is Raiden."

A small smile appeared.

Raiden: "And one day, I'm going to be a great superhero.

Raiden: No— (he corrected himself quickly)

Raiden: "I'm going to be greater than the LEGENDS. The strongest superhero group ever known. Yes that LEGENDS"

He leaned back slightly, shaking the drink can.

Raiden: "Yeah, I know. Big words." He laughed quietly.

Raiden (softly): "Truth is… I haven't really done anything special yet. Just stopping small thieves. Street robbers. Guys who steal from innocent people and think they can run away."

His smile softened.

Raiden: "But—" he said, pausing dramatically.

Raiden: "one day… people will start to know my name."

He stopped talking.

The silence stretched for a few seconds.

His expression changed.

Raiden: "…What am I yapping about?" he muttered softly.

Raiden: "That day will never come."

BOOOOOOM!

The morning exploded.

A massive blast erupted far across the city, loud enough to echo between buildings. The shockwave reached the rooftop seconds later, making the concrete tremble.

Raiden: "WHAT—?!"

The sudden explosion startled him so badly that the phone slipped from his hand.

Raiden: "Oh no—!"

His reflexes kicked in instantly. A faint crack of energy sparked around his fingers as he caught the phone mid-air.

Raiden: "…gotcha!" he muttered, heart racing.

He stood and looked toward the blast site.

Thick black smoke rose into the clear sky. Sirens screamed from every direction. Armored vehicles rushed through the streets as evacuation alarms echoed.

Speaker: "Citizens of neon city, please evacuate the STREET-34 now immediately!"

People screamed.

People ran.

The calm morning was gone.

Raiden stared at the chaos.

Then—

He smiled.

Surprised. Excited.

He lifted the phone again and shouted,

Raiden: "Maybe today is that day—WOOHOOO!!!"

He shoved the phone into his pocket so fast no one could have noticed.

And then—

FLASH.

A bolt of lightning cracked through the air.

Raiden vanished from the rooftop.

He tore through the streets faster than sound, dodging cars with perfect precision, slipping between traffic like a living flash of lightning. Wind roared past him as the city blurred into streaks of color.

Within moments, he reached the blast site.

Soldiers in high-tech combat suits surrounded the area, their futuristic weapons scanning the ruins.

Raiden: "Excuse me—please—"

He said, trying to pass through.

A soldier stepped in front of him, raising his gun.

Soldier: "Hey, kid. Where do you think you're going?"

Raiden smiled nervously.

Raiden: "I'm a superhero."

The soldier frowned.

Soldier: "This isn't a joke. Move back."

He shoved Raiden with the gun.

Raiden: "Hey!" He protested.

Raiden: "Come on, man! I'm serious!"

The soldier suddenly paused, tapping the side of his helmet.

Soldier: "…Okay, sir."

He turned and rushed away.

Raiden smirks

Raiden (softly): "Bingo !"

He stepped forward again—

Unknown: "HEY. YOU. STOP."

Raiden: "…Oh god," he muttered.

An older man stood there—the commander. Around fifty-five years old, short blue hair with white at the sides, a thick blue mustache, glasses resting on his face. His eyes were sharp.

Commander: "What are you doing here?" He asked.

Raiden: "Ah—ha—sir," he said quickly.

Raiden: "I'm a superhero. I want to help."

The commander studied him closely.

Commander: "…Can you?"

Raiden nodded repeatedly, grinning wide.

Raiden: "Yes, sir!"

The commander pointed toward a damaged building.

Commander: "Civilians are trapped inside. We managed to get some out, but many are still there. Can you bring them back?"

Raiden's smile widened.

Raiden: "Of course, sir. Just watch."

The commander raised his hand.

Commander: "Let him through."

All the soldiers moved way.

Raiden took a running stance, placing both hands on the ground. Lightning crawled over his body, his eyes glowing blue.

He whispered,

Raiden: "Let's flash."

He disappeared.

Three minutes.

That's all it took.

One by one, civilians appeared behind the barricades, placed safely on the ground in bursts of lightning.

The soldiers stared in shock.

The commander's eyes widened.

Raiden stood proudly, smiling.

Raiden (whispered):"This is it" he thought.

Raiden: "The greatest day of my life."

Then—

THUD.

A heavy sound echoed behind him.

Raiden turned.

From the flames stepped a massive figure—bulky, fully covered in black high-tech armor. A long glowing power core ran down his back. His face was hidden behind a solid metal mask.

Armored man: "You think you saved them?" the figure said coldly.

He raised his hand.

A powerful blast fired.

Raiden dodged just in time, skidding backward.

His heart pounded.

First real fight.

He smiled anyway.

Raiden: "By defeating you," he said confidently,

Raiden: "I'll become the hero of the day! People will know me as a great hero!"

The armored man laughed.

Armored man: "Great hero, huh? Let's see."

He attacked relentlessly—punches, blasts, shockwaves.

Raiden dodged every attack perfectly.

From outside, the commander shouted,

Commander; "What's happening?!"

One soldier replied: "Sir… I think that's the main culprit!"

Commander"Stay alert," he ordered.

Commander: "Weapons ready!"

Raiden charged forward.

Raiden: "Lightning Punch!"

The armored man blocked it easily—then punched Raiden hard.

He was launched through the air.

Raiden: "AHHHHHHH—!!!"

As the commander watched him flew off, then he takes out his walky talky to call.

Commander: "Yay... I think... We need a back up"

He flew off the building and slammed into the road below, creating a massive crater.

People screamed.

Silence followed.

Then—

CRACK.

Lightning burst outward.

Raiden stood up from the crater, barely scratched. He adjusted his cap and growled.

Raiden: "That bastard… he's going to pay."

People stared in shock.

He smiled at them.

Raiden: "Don't worry, everyone. Just a little scratch."

Another blast shook the city.

People ran again.

Raiden tried to calm them, but then he noticed something strange.

A bar.

Everyone was running out—except one man.

Inside, a man with messy white hair sat calmly, wearing a black leather coat. A massive scythe rested on his back. He was drinking beer.

The bar owner whispered nervously,

Bar Owner: "Everyone's running… but you look calm. Are you a superhero?"

Scythe guy: "I'm not," the man replied calmly.

FLASH.

Raiden appeared inside the bar.

Raiden:"Hola, amigo!"

The man rolled his eyes towards him.

Scythe guy: "What is it?"

Raiden: "Are you a superhero?"

Scythe guy: "No."

Raiden: "Oh." He paused.

Raiden: "…Then why do you have a giant scythe?"

Silence.

Raiden: "AHHH!" He yelled suddenly.

Raiden: "Then you're a bad guy!"

Scythe guy: "No, I am not that either" he replied calmly.

Raiden: "Oh. Great."

Pause.

Raiden: "…Then who the hell are you?"

Scythe guy: "Why do you care?"

Raiden: "I need your help."

Scythe guy: "For what?"

Raiden: "To beat a guy in giant armor blowing buildings like balloons."

The man laughed.

Scythe guy: "Why would I help you?"

Raiden thought.

Raiden: "…Yeah. That makes sense." He get confused thinking now what to do.

Scythe guy: "Don't worry the other will come "

Raiden grabbed him.

Scythe guy: "HEY—!"

Raiden: "Why do I have to wait for the other if you can help me"

Scythe guy: "stop... Or you're going to regret it!" He shouted.

Raiden: "nah I don't think I will"

He vanished in a flash.

Bar Owner: " HAY!!!!! WHO'S PAYING FOR THE BEER?!" He shouted.

Back at the battlefield, the commander stared.

Commander: "You again? I thought you were gone."

Raiden: "I brought a friend, his going to help" He said proudly.

Commander: "…I don't think so."

Raiden looked down.

The man was unconscious.

Raiden: "NO!!!" He screamed.

He tried to wake him up but he couldn't.

Raiden: "MAN HE'S COOKED!"

Another blast hit. Soldiers fell.

A building collapsed toward a young girl.

Raiden saw that and flashed forward and caught her.

Raiden: "You're safe," he said gently.

She thanked him.

Raiden turned back toward the battlefield.

The armored villain laughed as people screamed.

Raiden's eyes glowed blue—no jokes now.

Raiden: "…Now you're going down," he said softly.

Raiden: "FOR SURE."
