Chapter 75: Action and Bad Investment
Ronin quickly received Hisoka's number from Miria. He thought for a moment, then forwarded it to Kurapika.
He also called Kurapika to explain the situation.
"I don't know what he told Miria to convince her, but I just fought him under a different alias and figured out his goal."
"Hisoka wants a 1v1 duel with Chrollo Lucilfer. His moral compass is unpredictable, and I can't say what he'd do to achieve that goal."
"Whether you want to play along with him is up to your judgment. One thing is certain: after he gets what he wants from Chrollo, his target will likely shift to me."
"Is that a problem?" Kurapika asked the crucial question.
"No," Ronin replied without hesitation.
Hisoka was brilliant, but Ronin had confidence in his own strength.
"Alright. Leave it to me," Kurapika said confidently.
Standing at the edge of the roof, Ronin saw chaos erupt below. Mafia members were suddenly opening fire on their own comrades.
The Phantom Troupe had begun their operation.
The shooter was clearly under the influence of Shalnark's Black Voice (Autopilot/Remote Control).
Ronin hung up. He didn't plan to re-enter the building. He just stood there, enjoying the cool night breeze.
Inside the building, on the middle floors, two figures were slowly descending.
A massive En expanded from the shorter figure, instantly covering a radius of 100 meters.
It engulfed the entire Cemetery Building.
The source of this immense aura was Zeno Zoldyck.
"This job really isn't worth the price," Zeno sighed genuinely. He also sensed Ronin on the roof. "That reckless kid... slacking off at a time like this?"
Ronin sensed the En as well.
It was the same signature he felt during his fight with Hisoka. This confirmed it was Zeno scanning them earlier.
It felt different from the hostile En he had sensed during combat.
Meanwhile, one of Ronin's Shadow Clones was approaching the Zoldycks' position.
Zeno suddenly seemed to notice something. He nodded slightly to Silva. Silva flared his aura, and the two accelerated, rushing downstairs.
In the basement, outside the vault.
Chrollo and his team appeared openly.
Five members: Chrollo, Pakunoda, Kortopi, Bonolenov, and Franklin.
Pakunoda touched the head of the vault manager.
She extracted the memory of how to open the vault instantly. However, when the heavy doors swung open, all five Spiders frowned.
Empty.
"In his memory, only one person entered the vault recently—a young man wearing round sunglasses and flip-flops. After he left, the vault was never opened again," Pakunoda relayed the image from the manager's mind.
Chrollo's eyes lit up.
He had been searching for a spatial ability user for a long time.
He didn't expect the Mafia to have such a talent.
"Remember his face. He likely used his ability to move the entire inventory. Find him," Chrollo turned away from the empty vault.
Suddenly, a boom echoed from above.
"Looks like Phinks and the others engaged someone upstairs," Pakunoda noted.
"The items are gone. We should stick together. Ronin probably won't show up now, so let's retreat," Chrollo analyzed rationally.
The situation had reversed. The Troupe was now exposed in the light, while Ronin, the hunted, was hiding in the dark, controlling the initiative. It was an unpleasant feeling.
"This doesn't feel like Ronin's usual style. Someone is strategizing for him," Chrollo realized. "We need to find that person. If he has a tactician, killing Ronin will become significantly harder."
"Ronin has two companions—a man and a woman. The man's identity is unknown. The woman seems to be the deceased daughter of the Nostrade Family," Pakunoda followed Chrollo.
She had previously scanned the memories of civilians who witnessed the fight in Mordin City.
She recognized Neon because they had captured Light Nostrade earlier to facilitate their operations in Mordin.
Pakunoda had seen Neon in Light's memories.
But according to Light, Neon was just a spoiled girl with weird hobbies who liked fortune-telling shows.
However, if Neon were truly useless, why would Ronin keep her around?
There must be something special about her that even her father didn't know.
As for the boy, Pakunoda had no leads.
Ronin's Shadow Clone arrived on the first floor.
The lobby was already littered with corpses.
One was the mohawked thug, cut in half, still clutching his baseball bat.
The other was the red-haired woman. Her death was gruesome—riddled with dozens of tiny puncture wounds, likely from a rapier or needle.
These were the assassins hired by the Ten Dons. Against the Troupe, the skill gap was fatal.
Zeno and Silva stood on the grand staircase, looking down at three Troupe members in the lobby.
"Three on the first floor. Five in the basement. Three more outside on the perimeter. The mechanic died outside—hung up like a puppet," Zeno retracted his En.
"This job is seriously a bad investment," Silva cracked his knuckles, frowning slightly.
"Want to engage? Are you confident? I can stall one of them for about two minutes," Ronin's Shadow Clone (still disguised as Kakashi) approached them, offering assistance.
If he could get the Zoldycks to fight, even killing just two Spiders would be a huge help to Ronin.
