Chapter 43 - Knowing My Limits

I let out a breath after I finished absorbing the Qi energy once again in my own room, confirming that the Qi energy does replenish after a day.

I then summoned my book and the same jade book appeared in front of me, flipping to the page I was looking for with a thought.

There, right on the page beside the entry with Olivia, was the black and white drawing of Dan with his shield and armour looking all imposing and heroic.

Damn… The book actually made him look cool. I am definitely not showing this to him.

Putting that aside though… I'm not really sure what ability I have received from him.

Dan has a few awakened abilities, one of which is enhanced durability and the other is limited damage negation. He literally got all the tank buffs which is why he's the frontline tank in our expeditions.

I'm not too sure if Olivia has more abilities and I only got her lightning powers so maybe I only got one of Dan's abilities as well.

Unfortunately, the book doesn't tell me what kind of skill I have received so all I can do is guess. And it's hard to guess when the possible abilities I could get are defense related.

Obviously I wasn't going to try stabbing myself just to see if it worked but I would assume that I received one of his abilities that allows me to take more damage or something.

Right… Anyway… Once again, I was fully awake thanks to absorbing the Qi energy so my body was raring to go and not sleepy at all.

I was planning to go out to see if I could do some vigilante work again but paused when I reached out my hand towards the door.

If I learned anything from yesterday, it's that my sister most likely disapproves of me going out and risking my life.

And if I do it again, she might even tell our mother just to get me to stop.

As much as I love my sister, she can be quite overprotective…

I stepped away from the door and double checked I had all my things again before I went over to the window and slid both the metal grill and the glass panel open.

A gust of wind blew into the room and I ignored it to look down.

We lived on the seventh floor and I'm pretty sure that at this height, even with my enhanced abilities, I would probably still break a leg if I jumped out.

Good thing I don't intend to just jump out directly as I climbed out and stood on the ledge right outside my window.

I moved along the wall, sneaking past the window that led to my sister's room which thankfully had her curtains drawn so she wouldn't have been able to see me.

I continued until I reached where our front door would be linked to the corridor outside but I won't be able to climb in since there's a wall separating me from that corridor.

The only reason why I moved here was to take advantage of the corner as I looked down to aim for the ledge two floors below me.

With my absorption of Qi Energy, my body's capabilities have also grown and I believe I should be able to do this now…

I sucked in a breath before kicking off the wall, launching myself towards the ledge in question and flipping in midair to land on my feet without a sound.

Ok… That was scary… But at least it worked.

I aimed at the next corner and jumped there, stepping on the wall before pushing myself back towards the ledge two floors down.

With that, I was on the third floor and I dropped the rest of the way down to the ground floor, absorbing the impact with a crouch.

Hmm… As I thought, I barely felt that at three floors so either this was Dan's damage reduction ability working or I grew strong enough to withstand a fall from this height.

Alright then… Let's do a little bit of this…

I braced myself before leaping up with my full strength.

I was honestly just trying to see how high and far I could jump if I went all out and I floundered when I realised that jump easily cleared several metres in height and I was headed in the direction of the main road next to the apartment.

I felt my heart sink as I flew over the trees, then I realised that I had enough air to clear the road and I felt relief wash over me for a moment, right before I looked forward and realised I was headed straight for the wall on the apartment on the other side of the road.

Fuuuuuck.

I braced myself and slammed into the wall, leaving a visible crack on the surface and a thump loud enough to probably wake the entire block before I fell towards the ground.

There were no ledges for me to hold so I could only hope for the best before I slammed into the ground, cracking the pavement as well.

Ouch…

Hmm? Actually… That didn't hurt as much as I thought at all.

I stood back up and patted myself, checking that I was indeed alright and nothing was wrong with me.

I didn't even have a scrape or a bruise from that fall.

Looking up at the wall again, I realised I had smashed into the seventh floor of the building and fell straight down to the ground.

Huh… So I guess I could have just jumped out of my window and I would have been fine.

Good to know then…

Also, I shouldn't be staying around here or else people are going to figure out I was the cause of that crack in the pavement and that wall up there…

As I was running off, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and fished it out, thanking whatever prevented my phone from damage as it looked perfectly fine despite my fall.

I unlocked the screen and skidded to a stop when I realised it was a message from Olivia.

'My Lord. Forgive the timing of this message but are you available right now? If you are not available, please text me as soon as you read this message.'

I didn't hesitate and just typed back, 'Yes. What's up?'

The moment my message was sent, I saw the three dots appear indicating she was already typing her message.

'My Lord. If you are available tonight, could you come to the bus stop outside ProCom camp?'

The ProCom camp?

Oh… The Protective Security Command camp… They're supposed to be our country's counter terrorist force.

The fact that she's asking me to go there was obvious since the assassination attempt was basically labelled as a terrorist attack so they would definitely get involved in this.

'Got it. I'll be there soon.' I replied before stuffing my phone into my pocket again.

Luckily for me, it was just about a kilometer from where I am so I could just run there.

I sucked in a breath before taking off, using my strengthened body to dash along the canal and feeling the wind brush past me.

I wondered just how fast I was running as the scenery blurred past me and I already ran past the old railway bridge I had been hanging out at last night.

Like last night, it was already quite late so I wasn't concerned about running into anyone and just dashed along at full speed.

And even if someone did saw me, it wouldn't be too weird since this wouldn't be the first time a superpowered person taking a night run in the dead of the night.

As I neared the main road again, I jumped up into the air and cleared the intersection that went over the canal and landed right on the road itself, needing to skid for a few more meters before I finally stopped myself.

Going to need to work on my landing I guess…

I turned back to look at the bus stop in question and a certain red skinned Oni was staring at me, her eyes narrowed.

It only took her a moment before she recognised me and beckoned me over, prompting me to jog over to her.

She bowed, "I apologise for this rudeness, my Lord… But there are a few things that we need to settle before anything else and I had no choice but to wake you…"

I waved at her, "It's fine, I wasn't sleeping anyway… So what's this about?"

"There is someone who would like to meet you and it is to your benefit that you meet with them. Otherwise, I would have turned down their request."

"I'm assuming it has something to do with the guys inside the compound behind you? Why do they need me?"

"To disseminate information to you, my Lord… Unfortunately, we do not know who to trust right now so we need you to come in person to be safe."

Ok… So I guess now we're moving to the government people… Guess I couldn't stay out of politics as long as I thought…
