Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Hitting A Wall

On her way home, Daphne sighed for the umpteenth time recalling the wall she had hit in this recent project of investigating her best friend's lovers.

Philippa is someone she had been friends with for a very long time. As a friend, she understands her friend and at times, doesn't really understand why she does some of those absurd things she had always done.

If she were to blame someone for what was happening in Philippa's marriage right now, the blame will fully land on Philippa herself. But as a friend, what else could she do except do as much as she could?

That's why, ever since her friend started suspecting that her husband was seeing others, she started looking into them and providing that information to her. Philippa will quietly deal with them and Valentine will just find someone else, as if disregarding Philippa's actions.

After witnessing such events happening several times, Daphne could see the change in that marriage. Philippa was still pretending like she wasn't seeing that her marriage had crumbled, but those in the know could sense that.

Philippa's actions of five years ago truly shattered Valentine and now he no longer cared.

Thinking back to the matter of what Philippa was suspecting right now, she sighed heavily once again.

Philippa was suspecting that Valentine got another mistress, and yet after looking and using all resources available, she couldn't find anything. It was as if Valentine didn't have someone this time, and if he has, it means that the mistress was special and he was hiding her.

If that was indeed the case, then the matter was about to get serious. How will her friend take it?

Thinking about Philippa again, Daphne could only sigh and massaged her temples using one hand, and hopefully she will be able to find something the more she digs deeper.

But for now, thinking about those two young friends she made, a smile blossomed on her face.

'I can't wait for the next appointment,' she smilingly thought, recalling how interesting and loveable Amabel was.

She liked that young girl.

 ----****----

Meanwhile, at the Langdale villa, Philippa shattered another vase, making the servants to lower their heads as they cursed inwardly about how reckless she was.

Why was she taking her anger on such expensive pieces of art?

Can't she just talk things out with the master instead of acting shrewish like that?

Unfortunately, the angry woman couldn't do so.

Not only did she come across some young hussies who stole her best friend's attention at the tea party, but her friend also failed to find something substantial regarding whichever vixen her husband was seeing currently.

She didn't believe that Valentine wasn't seeing anyone. She has been with him for over a decade and knows him pretty well. In fact, without even bothering to know him pretty well, Valentine's actions were out in the open for her to see how much he was cheating behind her back.

It was as if he wanted her to know and do something about it, but was she willing to do what he wanted?

She didn't want to lose this title she worked hard for to get. The thought of no longer being Mrs. Langdale, Valentine's wife, made her heart ache terribly. That's why, all these years, whenever she learns of his new lover, she would send her away with money and those girls were very cooperative.

The only problem was her husband. She gets rid of one, and he replaces her the next second, and this time, she was certain that there was someone, but who was it?

When she arrived from the tea party event, she even timed her arrival, thinking that Valentine would be at home. After all, she had talked with one of his secretaries who told her that he had clocked out for the day. So, she was expecting to see him at home, but when she arrived, the man was nowhere to be found.

Where else could he have gone?

Thinking about him going to that vixen's place, her anger bubbled and all she could see was red.

Was she going to spend the rest of her life like this?

Was this how it was going to be?

She was ready to give him a child, and yet where was he?

Thinking about children, Philippa's eyes lit up as she thought of someone who might make the tables turn.

She took deep breaths and calmed her unsettled heart before taking out her phone. She browsed through the phonebook and quickly found the number she wanted.

With bated breath, since it's been a while since she contacted the other party.

After several rings, the call was answered and a female voice sounded in her ears.

"Mrs. Third, how may I help you?"

Philippa closed her eyes as the satisfaction of being called by her title washed over her.

"Auntie, I hope that you have been well," and she started with greetings, wanting to appear and sound nice.

[I am doing well, and yourself?]

"I can't complain much," she smilingly responded before getting to the point, "Auntie, um, is mom at the mansion or still out with her friends?"

[Oh, you mean the madam? She just returned earlier,] came the response and a smile blossomed on her face.

"That's good. I am planning on visiting her. How about I come tomorrow? Can you inform her for me?"

[Sure, no problem. I will pass on the message.]

Philippa sighed with relief when she heard that.

She doesn't believe that as long as she seeks solace from Valentine's mother, Valentine will continue with his games. Grandchildren were also important in the family. She had witnessed it at some point when she was still in her twenties.

How could she say no?

After getting what she wanted, Philippa's mind started working overtime again.

She couldn't visit her mother-in-law without a gift. So, she temporarily forgot about Valentine and started dealing with that.

Seeing her calm, the servants all sighed with relief, and when she left the room, they all scurried to start cleaning.

They just sincerely hoped that such tantrums will not happen frequently.

It was too taxing for them.
