Chapter 2 - chapter 1

The sky was like a gathering nest for grey clouds, not a single drop of sun filtered through causing the world to be grey .

It was what one would refer to an empty kind of morning.

Madison stood by the window and watched the garden outside, watching the bushes that used to be freashly shaped which were now messy and misdone by the heavy rain that poured during the morning and the day before.

She wished the clouds that hung in the sky would disappear so she couod embrace the sun's light of happiness and content as she run in to the garden and collected the flowers , even though her mother had told her picking flowers were not allowed .

But why would she care.

She sighed , she hated staying in her chambers even though she had dwelled the for almost two years . Being there felt strange, as if the room wasn't hers , as if that every night she was sleeping in a stranger's bed.

She immediately sat down when she heard footsteps. She expected her governess Miss Ann , but was disappointed when Mrs Brookstill came in.

Madison hated the plump woman , even though her parents had urged her to make a good start so her ladyship could be easily protected. But Marion rather thought Mrs Brookstill was rather fixed on disgracing her ladyship.

"Not even a good morning? You disrespectful girl." The plump woman said. Her words irritated Madison as she didn't know the plump woman would even come by . She wanted the woman to leave the room and her with her dull thoughts .

But instead the Mrs Brookstill looked around , Madison starts to think that the woman was studying the room to make another offence.

"You are quite the dull one , no one would like a dull young girl."the woman said again .

Madison swallowed. Was she trying to insult her or point a flaw just to be acute.

It annoyed Madison. How this woman had the courage to burst in at any time and say anything.

After a while the plump woman left and Madison felt like throwing a book to the door so the woman would hear what would happen to her.

In the afternoon, Madison sat in the family parlor . The weather was now sunny , it was a contrast to the dull weather that appeared that morning.

Luckily Mrs Brookstill left earlier giving Madison wanted peace. Her mother sat opposite her knitting.

"Maddy dear." Said her mother. Maddy was a name people in Madison's personal circle called her. No stranger would call her Maddy, it would be an offense.

"Mother." Maddison replied

" I wanted to know if you had felt bored in that room."

Madison felt ataken back. She didn't know what to reply. She looked at her mother who was looking at her craft as she knit.

"I just wanted to know if you wanted a change of scenery." Her mother said suddenly.

Madison had expected her mother to simply start with a conversation before the invite , but she remembered how her mother hated wasting words and was straight forward.

"What do you mean?" Madison asked even thigh she knew exactly what her mother meant.

" I mean a new adventure from the dull , regular atmosphere."

Madison then stayed silent for a moment. She needed to know what her mother was getting at.

"Why this question?" Madison asked

Her mother without a word, hands her a letter. It was fresh and crisp. As if the paper had just been bought.

"It's from the Daniels"

Madison knew the Daniels. They were a middle class family that lives in Maneford.

She had met their son, Kail , once when she was 12.
