I looked at the girl again, this time more carefully.
She did not look like someone who had just arrived.
There was a certain ease in the way she stood, the way she spoke, and even how she handled that meat seller without hesitation.
"You said you are from Unit 50?" I asked.
She nodded quickly, her smile still bright.
"Yes," she said. "I have been there for a while now."
Her eyes moved between me and Fu Sheng.
"You two are new, right? I could tell immediately."
Fu Sheng spoke calmly.
"We arrived today."
An Li's eyes lit up slightly.
"I knew it," she said. "No wonder that woman tried to cheat you. She always targets new people."
She folded her arms and shook her head.
"If I had come a little later, she would have taken your money without blinking."
I let out a small breath.
"Then we were lucky you came when you did."
She grinned.
"Of course you were."
There was no modesty in her tone, but it did not feel annoying.
Just… straightforward.
I liked that.
