Esme's POV
From the end of the room, Escanor watched me. He did look like he'd be falling asleep soon enough.
Lilin had his secrets. I still pushed. Then he slipped away, leaving his overgrown house cat with me.
My head returned to Jann's soft fur.
I squeezed a handful, reminiscing on when Denim served as my lap pillow.
Escanor and Lilin had exchanged no words. He had made minimal movement too, apart from resting on my shoulders.
When Lilin left, he replaced himself on the table. It made me wonder if he was being territorial over the table Lilin had sat on.
Also, when I asked him about Lilin. His reply left me quiet.
'You have met him before, right?'
'Yes, in the cave.'
I was relieved that my guess wasn't wrong. So I added, 'You barely spoke to him while he was here. Why was that?'
'He tried to kill me.'
After I had taken my jaw off the ground, I latched onto Jann.
