Esme's POV
The Duke broke the silence first.
"Wraven, I would like a word with you."
I waited for Ruby's response.
"Yes, but we should speak elsewhere."
My beating chest calmed down. His tone was still relaxed.
"You have overstayed your welcome in our Mistress's home," Ruby added, though there was still no hostility in his voice.
I looked around for Ritch, but he was gone. My legs trudged forward, heading into the forest.
Jann appeared beside me, and without saying anything, stooped down for me to get on.
"You can tell my legs will give way anytime soon, right?" I crawled onto his back and massaged the cramps my legs suffered. "Today exhausted me."
Standing before a Duke who could make or ruin me wasn't easy, even if Sanya and everything sane knew he wouldn't harm me.
I was caught in a turmoil of unexplained emotions, and for the first time, I needed to get back my memories. How important had he been to me?
