The figure standing at the center of the stone platform looked almost human at first glance, yet the illusion collapsed the moment one noticed the curved horns rising from his temples and the enormous wings folded behind his back like a cloak of darkness.
His skin carried a faint charcoal hue, and his eyes burned with a quiet crimson light that made even the shadows appear restless. Before him, a subordinate was kneeling.
"Master, the human race survived," the kneeling figure said in a voice that carried both caution and reluctance. "We lost the mission. What will you do now?"
