Chapter 43 - Being Human -> A duel between Transcendent beings

The two figures, one of enormous height a robust body and heavy armor while one was was slick and thin clad in a black sweatsuit were standing facing one another in the boxing ring waiting for the first person to deliver the first punch, kick, spell and other forms of attack.

Like a very wise person once said, "the first attack will determine how the battle will go", of course being the first to force an opponent to act might sound like the one of best attack strategy not everyone might agree, some believe acting first reveals the mistake or flaw in a combat style while others believe playing how the battle will go in your head and using the most successful strategy is the only way to win a fight.

Regardless of all these saying, the reason the two figures hadn't acted or attacked one another wasn't because they didn't want to be the first to attack or that they were waiting for who would be the first to attack, instead the reason was personal to the transcendent soul beings.

The skeleton's gathered around the boxing ring to observe the fight, cackling loudly because it wasn't everyday they saw their master show his immense strength. Fighting was never merely violence; it was a cultural classroom where society was entertained by the display of skill and educated by the demonstration of character under pressure.

As the two transendent beings were about to draw their first punch, the skeletons became quiet and ceased their laughter and cheers, their attention was peak and the entire campanile was as quiet as a grand canyon, it was so quiet that even the sound of the wind flowing towards the crumbling rocks of the ancient structures was the only thing that was heard.

Coincidentally the two figures ceased thinking about past events at the same time, and attacked at the same time, Cord charged straight at Maru with a speed that was surprisingly fast considering his height, his boxing gloves were formed into a fist and the left hand was aimed at Maru, he was keeping his right hand at the bottom to perform a uppercut at Maru in case Maru somehow evaded his attack.

Maru lunged at Cord also but since he and Cord attacked at the same time, he decided to stay away from the path Cord was charging towards, it was common sense to know that when a huge figure was moving at huge speed to a smaller one, it was the smaller one that usually suffered terrible.

Maru didn't want to try his luck in going 1 v 1 with Cord in a brawl so he sped out of the way until his figure sort of dissipated into nothingness, no matter the amount of speed Cord was coming with, Maru was faster and so the charge and evasion continued.

Unlike most fighters that relied on evading to tire their opponents down, Maru had learnt the hard way that Cord wasn't one to back down easily so he started finding ways he could use to end the fight swiftly.

The problem was, Cord was a direct counter to the abilities of Maru while none of Cord's attacks were able to fall on Maru, Maru would still be weakened significantly because of using his internal energy. With nowhere to turn, and no time to spend doing the same thing over and over again, Maru started attacking Cord with all he got.

Maru's figure changed to that of the wind, he could still be hurt if a specific attack reached him exactly where he was standing. Although Maru's figure could be injured more when he was like the wind. Maru could also easily evade attacks, and some of his hits were landing on Cord.

He was no longer evading repeatedly, instead, he was fighting back and the battle was finally going his way, until Cord also started using all the abilities he had to attack Maru.

If Maru was moving as a light feather, gently evading the punches that Cord was aiming at him and defying the law of gravity, when Cord opened the power of his attributes he reset the law of gravity to treat all masses and matter the same and draw them all to the ground.

Worse still, his transcendent ability made him use some parts of his body like a magnet, like a large electromagnet, he filtered out all matter around him and used his hands to send a large magnetic pull towards Maru.

The skeletons watching the duel were facing the effect of the shockwaves coming from the gravity pull despite Cord limiting the effect of the gravitational pull to the boxing ring, it took all their will and strength to remain standing on their feet, while the weak soul beings were already lying flat on the floor unable to bear the shockwaves of the battle.

Maru wasn't coping well with the situation he found himself, although his body had an aspect of the wind and it greatly increased his odds for evading the force of punches that came from impossible angles, he couldn't dodge the gravitational pull that was aimed at him and he was drawing closer to the figure of Cord gradually.

Maru still had determination on his eyes even though his white aura was spreading around the boxing ring violently, a wild wind pressure was emanating from within him and he was been dragged at tremendous speeds towards Cord.

Maru beared the pain he felt from the impact blasts, gravitational pull and magnetic effect coming from Cord until he was 1 feet before Cord. When Maru was a feet in front of Cord, he manifested a single bolt of white lightning from his hands and released it unto Cord.

Unable to dodge the manifested lighting bolt aimed at him, Cord had a grim expression on his face as the lighting struck him. He had something reminiscent to a concussion as his bony eye sockets were painted with bright white light the shape of eye holes.

The lightning convulsed inside his body many times because of the amplification the silver and metal plates provided. After accepting an electrostatic shock that formed arcs of terrible blue lightning around his body for 7 times, Cord slumped into the ground causing the duel to end then and there.

Maru stood still to observe his victory for a while as his mangled face curved into a crooked smile before he fell beside the floor close to Cord.
