Chapter 12: How to Kill Terminator T-800?

Los Angeles, LAPD headquarters, main conference room.

Marcus used the LAPD's main conference room to hold an operational meeting regarding the Terminator T-800.

"Quiet!" Marcus sat at the head of the table, glancing around at the people in the room, including some high-ranking LAPD officials and six team leaders from the FBI's Los Angeles field office.

"I know everyone is wondering what our target is, what its purpose is, and how to deal with it." Marcus proactively laid out the questions.

"Before answering these questions, I need you all to sign a confidentiality agreement." Marcus said, looking at Jackson.

Jackson immediately stood up and distributed printed confidentiality agreements to everyone in the conference room.

"This is an internal FBI confidentiality agreement. Once signed, if you leak information, you will face charges of violating national security." Marcus added.

An LAPD operations team leader asked, "What if we don't sign this agreement?"

"If you don't sign this agreement, please leave the conference room now. However, in the course of the operation, if we deem it necessary, we will still mobilize your LAPD's resources." Marcus calmly replied.

"We, the LAPD..." The operation leader was interrupted by Marcus before he could finish speaking.

"We've reached an agreement with your LAPD chief. In this operation, your LAPD will cooperate with us unconditionally," Marcus explained. "Sergeant Taylor, I know you're angry right now. Two of your officers are dead, and you have reason to be angry, but you shouldn't be angry at me, but at that machine!"

Taylor gritted his teeth. "What exactly is that machine?"

Marcus tapped the conference table lightly with his right fist. He reminded him, "If you want to know the details, sign a confidentiality agreement first. Also, I remind you again to abide by this confidentiality agreement."

Taylor didn't hesitate. He signed as he spoke, "I can't let my people die without knowing why!"

Everyone in the conference room signed the confidentiality agreement. Jackson collected the agreements, and Marcus checked them one by one. Only after confirming there were no problems did Marcus speak.

"Do you believe in time travel?" Marcus asked.

The expressions of the people in the conference room varied.

"You heard me right, that machine traveled through time," Marcus explained. "To be precise, it was an assassin sent by a hostile artificial intelligence from the future."

"A hostile AI?"

"An assassin?"

"The future has technology that can travel through time?"

...

The conference room immediately erupted in commotion as everyone voiced their questions.

"Quiet!" Marcus commanded, waiting for everyone to quiet down before beginning his explanation. "My colleagues at the FBI's Los Angeles field office should know that I was once sent undercover into an investigation. My investigation was about that machine."

Marcus continued, "I have limited information about that machine; its designation is Terminator T-800. As for its target, I will keep it a secret for now to ensure their safety."

Morrison hesitated for a moment, then asked, "How do we explain this to the public? The previous operation was too visible; we can't hide it anymore. Besides, that machine called Terminator T-800 will definitely be discovered by others, right?"

"Terminator T-800 is indeed very likely to be discovered by others!" Marcus affirmed Morrison's statement. "In fact, we not only don't need to worry about Terminator T-800 being discovered by the public, we should actually look forward to it being discovered. As long as the public discovers Terminator T-800, they can call the police to tell us."

This is crowd-sourcing at its finest!

Let the target be found by thousands of eyes.

"As for how to explain it to the public, that's a job for public affairs. Whether it's a foreign threat or a classified experiment gone wrong, just give the public a plausible explanation," Marcus said calmly.

The public just needs a reasonable excuse.

As for the truth?

Do you think the public really cares about every detail?

They're just following the story!

Morrison thought for a moment before nodding and saying, "That makes sense. Deputy Chief Henderson, how about I leave this to you?"

Henderson was the head of public affairs; he'd been pulled into a meeting in the middle of the night—could he refuse?

Marcus was right; explaining it to the public was, after all, the public affairs department's job.

"Understood," Henderson replied.

Marcus added, "Handle this immediately. Also, your LAPD is responsible for coordinating with the news media. Make sure the Los Angeles Times and morning news all report on this, mobilizing the public to search for the Terminator T-800."

Henderson nodded again, "No problem."

"The next topic is how to neutralize the Terminator T-800," Marcus proactively explained. "Given our previous encounters, we know that standard firearms are almost ineffective against the Terminator T-800, so we need to change our approach. Everyone, what suggestions do you have for dealing with the Terminator T-800?"

Jackson spoke first, "When I rammed it with the truck before, it got knocked back pretty hard. I think we can consider using that method. For example, what about using heavy equipment?"

Marcus immediately retorted, "Heavy equipment? Jackson, are you volunteering to operate it?"

Jackson scratched his head and chuckled awkwardly. Of course, he wouldn't do such a dangerous job himself!

Rodriguez chimed in, "Boss, I think we can try restraining it with steel cables. Although Jackson's suggestion has some issues, he did manage to ram the Terminator T-800 with the truck, so I suspect its strength isn't superhuman. We can definitely restrain it with steel cables."

Marcus nodded slightly, "That suggestion is acceptable. Steel cable restraint is a bit difficult, so we can try using heavy-duty nylon rope first. Prepare plenty of heavy-duty nylon rope and try to loop it around the Terminator T-800."

Morrison chimed in, "The Terminator T-800 is a machine, so it definitely has electronics. We can also try attacking it with high-voltage electricity."

Taylor, who had just questioned Marcus, also offered his suggestion, "Perhaps we can try industrial acid. Since it's a metal machine, acid should be able to corrode it, right?"

Marcus nodded slightly. Although he wasn't sure what kind of high-strength alloy the Terminator T-800's endoskeleton was made of, industrial acid might actually work.

"The suggestion of industrial acid is good!" Marcus instructed. "Prepare some industrial-strength acid as much as possible. When we find Terminator T-800, if other methods don't work, we'll try the acid method!"

Poor Terminator T-800 may have escaped for the time being, but an even more difficult fate awaits it!
