Chapter 37 - Stark Industries' Competitor

Li Pu had always refused to acknowledge those gangsters who thought of themselves as the bosses of 47th Street.

After all, being grouped with a bunch of trash whose combat power was only 5 would be far too embarrassing.

He couldn't afford to lose face like that!

Even if he didn't count his overly abundant martial prowess, just looking at the caliber of people Li Pu was currently in contact with, they weren't people those so-called "mob bosses" could compare to.

For example, the reason he was looking for a lawyer for a consultation today was because he had received a lawyer's letter from Stark Industries.

Just ask those trash, who among them was capable enough to provoke the legal department of Stark Industries?

"Li Pu, don't worry. I've already checked the past patent application records. If we go to court, we have an 80% chance of winning."

A chubby little lawyer was carrying a briefcase, checking the evidence list in his hand as he walked.

Hearing his words, Li Pu couldn't help but feel a bit puzzled: "Foggy, what about the remaining 20%? Could we actually lose the lawsuit?"

"That's because..."

Foggy was thinking about his phrasing. His partner, a blind lawyer leaning on a guiding cane, Matt Murdock, answered the question very bluntly.

"Stark Company's legal department is the top in all of America, and their head of legal once served as the Federal Attorney General."

The Federal Attorney General is one of the members of The President's cabinet, and the only top executive in the cabinet not referred to as'Secretary'.

The official title is the United States Attorney General, or the Federal General Counsel of the United States, and the Federal Attorney General is also the Prosecutor General of America.

"So, having an 80% chance of winning this case is actually quite good already."

Pausing for a moment, Lawyer Matt couldn't help but advise in the end: "Li Pu, I actually don't recommend you fight this lawsuit against Stark Industries.

Because even if you can win, the process of winning the lawsuit will definitely be dragged out for a very long time.

The costs incurred during that period will not be a small amount; doing this isn't cost-effective."

Matt said this out of goodwill; the 'not a small amount' he mentioned was actually the legal fees they could receive.

Hearing his partner say this, Foggy could only sigh helplessly, admitting that Matt was indeed right.

"Fine, those people certainly have the ability to drag this lawsuit into a quagmire. So, Li Pu, everything depends on how you choose next."

Matt and Foggy's voices weren't very loud, but they couldn't stop someone from pricking up their ears to 'eavesdrop'.

Although he was left dazed by Li Pu's'safe travels, I won't see you out' remark, how could Coulson, who hadn't finished his mission, really leave?

He followed the three of them, wanting to find an opportunity to chat more, but ended up hearing the shocking statements from Foggy, Matt, and Li Pu.

This person actually wanted to go to court against Stark Industries, the flagship company of the American military-industrial complex?

This was no longer a common 'why does a commoner sue an official' scenario.

Reasonably speaking, in the USA, even S.H.I.E.L.D. would get hit hard if they dared to do that.

Was this Li Pu really that brave? Also, how did Li Pu get into a conflict with Stark Industries? In the intelligence gathered by S.H.I.E.L.D., it never said this person was an arms dealer?

"Check it! Hurry!"

(Check it quickly!)

Coulson spoke softly, giving instructions to his logistics team through the communicator hidden in his ear canal.

He gave the command very quietly.

However, the sound was still heard by Li Pu and that blind lawyer, Matt.

Li Pu saw Matt tilt his head slightly and, without needing to guess, knew that Daredevil was surely 'intercepting' S.H.I.E.L.D.'s internal secrets in broad daylight.

And that was indeed the case.

Although the communicator in Coulson's ear used bone conduction, the minute sounds it produced still had nowhere to hide before Matt's miraculous hearing... "Reporting to the supervisor, the target Li Pu received a lawyer's letter from Stark's legal department today. The other party wants to sue him for a product he sells that infringes on Stark Company's patents."

"That product is a type of floor mat, containing a plastic board with a built-in trace amount of explosives."

"According to the information the target previously provided to the Patent Office, those explosives were purchased from a certain Eastern power, a type of toy called 'Snap Crackers'."

"The product claims that as long as the user places the floor mat inside or outside their door before going to bed, once an illegal intruder breaks in and steps on the mat, it will make a sound similar to a small-caliber firearm firing."

"This product has passed safety tests; the impact, debris, and heat generated by the explosion itself will not cause harm to the person stepping on it or the user."

"The reason Stark Industries is suing Li Pu is because its CEO, Obadiah Stane, instructed that any product potentially threatening their leading position in the home defense field must be struck down."

"We intercepted a call recording of Obadiah Stane."

..."Damn it! If this $30 piece of junk floor mat spreads, people can scare away thieves and burglars for just a little bit of money.

Who would buy our company's $100,000 titanium home security pods, $50,000 security doors, or the non-lethal home defense equipment Stark Company developed for home defense that averages around $10,000?

So, you in the legal department need to solve this trouble for me. If the trouble can't be solved, then solve the trouble-maker!"

...Hearing the information found by logistics and then listening to this recording of Obadiah Stane, Coulson couldn't help but frown slightly.

As a Level 8 Agent, he naturally knew the relationship between Stark Industries and S.H.I.E.L.D.; the elder Stark was one of the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D.

And Tony Stark, who inherited Stark Industries, was a super Genius who was not inferior to his father and perhaps even surpassed him.

Under Tony Stark's leadership, relying on the weapons he invented, Stark Industries had become the largest weapons contractor for the USA military.

However, aside from doing invention research or picking up Hollywood starlets, Tony Stark didn't really manage the affairs of Stark Industries personally.

The helmsman of that behemoth was currently the CEO named Obadiah Stane.

Obadiah was a typical businessman—domineering and extremely greedy.

After becoming nearly invincible in the military-industrial field, he was still eyeing the market in the civilian defense sector.

For the sake of a $30 floor mat, that guy could actually say something like'solve the trouble-maker'... is that something that should be said?

No.

Is that what an entrepreneur should say?

Coulson's expression became a bit unsightly, and Matt, who had listened to the entire conversation between the logistics team and him, now had a subtle look on his face as well.

He couldn't help but speak up to warn: "Li Pu, I think you should be a bit careful when going out lately. I'm worried someone might use despicable means."

Li Pu was very satisfied that Matt could warn him; this proved he had made the right choice in finding the [Nelson & Murdock Law Office].

The cost wasn't much, but the service was very much in place.

"Thank you, Matt. I understand what you mean, but..."

Li Pu gently patted Daredevil's shoulder: "...Some things can't be avoided just because you want to; you always have to face them.

And going up against Stark Industries wasn't actually my original intention.

That 'Safety Floor Mat' was actually made by my son, Koz. He felt this invention was cheap and cool, and very suitable for ordinary people to use.

As a father, if my son wants to do something—and if there's nothing wrong with it—then I will definitely support him to the end."
