On the frost-slicked summit of the Empire State Building, two polar opposites stood poised for violence. Tobey Zhu, clad in a pitch-black suit that seemed to drink the moonlight, faced off against Gwen, whose pure white "White Specter" suit shimmered with a ghostly brilliance.
The duel was about to begin.
The Black Surge
Tobey Maguire, fueled by the aggressive agitation of the symbiote, chose to strike first. He pushed off the roof with a force that defied his human frame; his calf muscles, supercharged by symbiote cells, erupted like a volcano.
Boom!
The reinforced concrete beneath his feet shattered into a web of deep cracks. Tobey's figure blurred instantly, shifting from a standstill to extreme velocity, leaving nothing but a dark smear on the retinas of his observers.
Gwen pushed her Spider-Sense to its absolute limit. She didn't need to see the trajectory or the fist; the "buzz" in her skull told her everything she needed to know.
Whoosh!
Gwen vanished. A split second later, Tobey's fist slammed into the spot she had occupied. The ground shook with the impact. The hard concrete was as fragile as tofu under his enhanced strength, his fist punching a meter-wide hole straight through the roof's floor.
Gwen landed several meters away, her eyes wide beneath her mask. The Black Spider-Man's raw power was staggering—but she knew he wasn't at his limit yet.
The Tactical Shift
Tobey didn't pause. He flicked his wrist, tearing a massive slab of concrete from the roof and hushing it toward Gwen like a discarded toy. Before it could connect, Gwen's figure blurred again.
"Vanished? Teleportation? No—it's invisibility!"
Tobey's combat instincts, honed by years of experience and sharpened by the parasite, were sharp. He activated his own Spider-Sense, firing a web toward the point of most danger. But for the first time, his aim was off. The web hissed through empty air.
Gwen's Spider-Sense had anticipated Tobey's Spider-Sense. Peter, watching from the sidelines, felt a surge of pride. In terms of raw sensory intuition, Gwen was now a match for a veteran.
From her invisible vantage point, Gwen fired a neurotoxin web. It hit Tobey's right hand squarely. The toxin wasn't fatal, but it was designed to paralyze a titan. Tobey simply looked at it and tore the webbing away, seemingly unaffected.
Peter's mind raced through a biological hypothesis: Are the symbiote cells devouring the toxin at the cost of their own apoptosis? Is the parasite sacrificing its own cells to shield the host?
The Shotgun Web and the Blade
Tobey shifted tactics. He pressed his left hand over his right wrist, squeezing the web-shooter's nozzle. Instead of a single line, the webbing fragmented into a cloud of thousands of tiny, sticky strands.
If his previous webs were rifle rounds, this was a shotgun blast.
The area-of-effect was too wide to fully dodge. A single strand snagged Gwen's shoulder, revealing her invisible position. Tobey roared, a sound more beast than man.
"Got you! Let's see where you run now!"
With terrifying strength, he yanked the line, pulling Gwen through the air toward him. His left fist clenched, arm muscles bulging as he prepared a blow that would likely shatter ribs.
But as Gwen was pulled into his reach, a dazzling white light ignited in the air. The prototype lightsaber hummed to life. With surgical precision, Gwen slashed the blade across Tobey's wrist. It severed the web and carved a piece of the black suit away.
The Sonic Intervention
As the fragments of the black suit fell, Gwen felt a deep, instinctive revulsion. These aren't just fabric fragments. They're alive.
She acted on instinct, firing a glob of webbing to encase the falling black material, forming a "web sphere" to trap the sample. But her distraction gave the symbiote an opening. The suit on Tobey's arm seemed to liquefy, extending a black tentacle that lashed out and gripped Gwen's ankle.
Before the parasite could pull her back, an ear-splitting sound shattered the silence.
CLANG!
Peter had utilized his nanoliquid metal to craft a meter-tall bell, which he struck with a violent, vibrating force. The high-frequency resonance hit the symbiote like a physical blow.
"Tobey Zhu! Hold your ground!" Peter shouted, his voice amplified by his suit. "Don't forget who you are!"
The combination of the sonic vibration and the shock of a stranger calling out his secret name sent Tobey into a panic. A voice seemed to hiss in his ear, screaming for him to flee. Without another word, Tobey shot a web and swung into the night, disappearing into the concrete canyons of New York.
Gwen prepared to pursue, but Peter held up a hand. "Let him go. We need to investigate that suit first. deep blue was right—his mental state is being warped by that parasite."
Gwen landed and handed Peter the vibrating web sphere. "I managed to snag a piece of it. It's... it's vibrating. It's definitely alive."
Peter smiled beneath his mask. He had been looking for a way to study symbiote cells, and Gwen had just delivered a perfect specimen.
