Hyuga Arin walked over to the pile of charred remains and reached out, picking up the dropped item.
[Nen Exorcist Skill Fragment (1/10)]
"Second one," Hyuga Arin said with a smile as he looked at Kuromori's carbonized corpse.
The two fragments in his inventory automatically fused together.
[Nen Exorcist Skill Fragment (2/10)]
"Truly worthy of being my superior. Even in death, you still drop something good for me."
Even after dying, Kuromori still managed to bring him a valuable item.
What a considerate and outstanding superior—loving his subordinates even in death.
Hyuga Arin was so touched he was practically in tears.
(Kuromori: Say that to my face if you've got the guts!!)
Reining in his emotions, Hyuga Arin walked over to what remained of Akishima. His drop was a card.
He picked it up. On the card was a figure whose eyes and mouth were nothing but black voids.
[Nanika's Wish List Fragment (1/10)]
"This thing can actually drop?" Hyuga Arin looked at the card in surprise. He'd thought it was impossible for this item to appear.
Nanika's Wish List was a quest-bound item. Using it allowed one to fulfill a wish within certain limits—but afterward, it would forcibly trigger a time-limited mission.
The difficulty of that mission depended on how big the wish was.
Failing it would result in severe punishment: permanent stat reduction, permanent bodily damage, or even the loss of tens of thousands of experience points.
Basically, the character would be ruined.
For players, that kind of punishment was the most brutal thing imaginable.
A character painstakingly raised over countless hours—gone because of one failed mission.
Which player wouldn't break down?
He'd thought that without the quest system, this item would never appear.
Yet here it was.
"Even without the quest system, this thing is still unusable," Hyuga Arin muttered, stroking his chin.
Even going by Hunter x Hunter canon, Nanika's power came at a huge cost—three forced demands that had to be fulfilled before one wish could be granted.
In the original story, the Zoldyck family feared that failing Nanika's demands could wipe out the entire clan, which was why they locked her away as a monster.
Whether by canon rules or game mechanics, this item was a double-edged sword.
In-game, it also couldn't be used to obtain anything above level 60.
"Forget it. I'll stash it for now. No guarantee I'll even collect all the fragments."
This item was also a random drop—its drop rate was even lower than the Nen Exorcist skill fragments. Whether he could ever complete it was another matter entirely.
He'd think about whether to use it after collecting them all.
Next, he took out the cards dropped by the three genin.
[Consumable: Copy C-40]
[Consumable: Lonely Sapphire]
[Consumable: One-Eyed Giant G-333]
The Copy card could duplicate any item dropped from the Hunter world—each item could only be copied once.
"Pretty useless for me," Hyuga Arin sighed. This card was best used to copy rare Hunter-world abilities and sell them off for a profit.
But in this world, he was the only player.
Who was he supposed to trade with?
The second item wasn't bad. Although it could only be sold for money, gems were still valuable in the ninja world.
In the original lore, this sapphire supposedly carried a curse, but in the game that setting had been removed—it was now purely a decorative item.
There were many such decorative items. As long as he found opportunities to sell them, he'd never have to worry about money.
The item that pleased him the most, however, was the third card.
This card could summon a One-Eyed Giant to fight.
The giant's strength ranged from level 20 to 30. Although it only had two skills, it wasn't something ordinary ninja could deal with quickly.
Unfortunately, it was single-use.
"Eh, not bad," Hyuga Arin said, stowing all the drops away.
This was typical for Amegakure ninja—most of their drops came in the form of cards.
Finally, he looked at his experience.
His total was now [Experience Pool: 4568].
"Just a bit more and I can change classes."
He invested 3,999 experience into leveling.
[Lv.XX (3999/4000)]
[Experience Pool: 569]
"Still need quite a bit, but this area's basically cleared."
Hyuga Arin closed the panel.
Everything in this city worth farming had already been cleared out. Even the hidden rogue ninja couldn't provide enough experience to level him up further.
As for the Konoha ninja lurking in the shadows…
"If I grind those, my cover's blown and my Konoha reputation's finished."
Hyuga Arin scratched his head in frustration.
In the normal Naruto world, standard ninTechnique drops came almost exclusively from Konoha.
Otherwise, he'd have to rely on bosses or wild enemies to drop proper native-world ninTechnique.
Now that the game had become reality, there was one more option—learning directly.
"Guess I'll have to rely on military merit. Hopefully the Hyuga clan doesn't pull any bullshit."
It wasn't that Hyuga Arin was biased against the Hyuga main family—they really were that outrageous, even manipulating the branch family's military merits.
Why did the Hyuga clan have so much wealth?
In a sense, they were Konoha's richest clan. Where did that money come from?
From the commissions and battle merits earned by the branch family.
The branch family members only wanted to curse.
That was why Hyuga Arin always felt the urge to provoke Hyuga Hiashi.
The main family's luxury was funded by the branch family's blood.
Of course, the Hyuga clan did provide kunai, shuriken, housing, and child-rearing expenses.
For an ordinary branch-family ninja, those might count as benefits.
But for a talented branch-family ninja, they were nothing but shackles.
And Hyuga Arin hadn't even enjoyed much of those "benefits."
All his assets were inherited. Aside from occasionally asking other branch members for help, he'd never applied for anything from the Hyuga clan.
So this wasn't a case of "eating their food, then smashing their bowl."
He hadn't eaten a single grain of the Hyuga clan's rice.
If they really wanted to argue about what he'd inherited—
Those were things the Hyuga clan had given his parents.
Hyuga Arin would be more than happy to send them to discuss it with his parents, who had died on the battlefield.
Whether they could come back afterward was another matter.
As Hyuga Arin cursed inwardly, he glanced at the now-finished battlefield. After some thought, he took out an explosive tag and placed it on Kuromori's charred remains.
He casually collected Kuromori's belongings, tossing the ninja tool pouch into his inventory.
After all, as a subordinate, inheriting a superior's belongings was perfectly reasonable—legally and morally.
Once everything was ready, he retreated a few steps.
BOOM!
The explosive tag detonated, scattering what remained of Kuromori everywhere.
"That should take care of it."
Hyuga Arin turned and walked away, as if having made some firm decision.
Thunder rolled.
Lightning snakes twisted within the dark clouds, their flashes unable to dispel the darkness below.
The rain was getting heavier.
