"The Dream-Drunk Wanderer"
Oh, you hopeless fool
Trapped in chains forged by your past.
You live only in dreams and fantasies,
Yet walk through waking life like the dead.
Another slave among the countless,
Bound by desire, paralyzed by sloth.
Your vivid visions of luxury and comfort
Remain just that visions
While you clutch tightly to the rusted chains of yesterday.
Your fears and failures, past, present, and future.
Wrap around you like vines, unseen yet suffocating.
So I ask you, Why do you cling to life so stubbornly,
Yet gaze longingly at death,
As if it were a promise rather than an end?
You drown yourself in illusions,
Intoxicating your mind and soul
With desire, fear, shame, guilt, and regret.
Do you intend to sober up and cast off the weight,
Or are you content to decay in the soil?
How pitiful.
How disappointing.
That one meant to ride the wind
And rest among the clouds
Now chooses to crawl
Along a path paved with thorns.
I have no wishes for you.
You don't even know what you wish for yourself.
No words of encouragement can reach you,
I know too well you'll return to your drunken haze.
Perhaps it would have been better
If you had never come into existence.
Spared from the burden of life,
For its pleasures are brief,
And its suffering relentless.
