Chapter 4 - Chapter Three:TRIAL AND ERROR

Life, I once believed, moved in straight lines. But the days after my reawakening were anything but predictable—a constant cycle of stumbles, corrections, and small victories. Transformation, I was learning, was not neat or immediate.

Some mornings, I woke with purpose, determined to live as the disciplined, prayerful woman I longed to be. I opened my devotional, stretched, and imagined the day unfolding in order.

By midday, the pull of old habits returned. Hours slipped into meaningless scrolling on social media. Idle chatter with friends replaced intentional study. Daydreams of a simpler, easier life tugged at my focus. Frustration crept in—I wondered why change always felt just out of reach.

Even so, a quiet determination refused to die. I reminded myself that progress wasn't measured by perfection, but by the courage to rise each time I faltered. Verses I had memorized became my anchors: "Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again" (Proverbs 24:16). Lamentations 3:22–23 whispered of mercies renewed daily. And Philippians 1:6 promised the work within me would reach completion.

One difficult afternoon, when my routines faltered, I returned to basics. I wrote down specific, tangible goals:

Read one chapter of Psalms each day

Save a small amount each week

Limit social media to thirty minutes in the evening

I built routines that held me accountable—study blocks at the library, a quiet moment for reflection by the window, prayer even when it felt dry. Some days were smooth. Others were messy. But each day ended the same way: I picked myself up and tried again.

These repeated efforts began to change me. Discipline replaced hesitation. Patience replaced frustration. With every stumble, I felt a quiet strength growing beneath the surface—a reminder that progress was often invisible until I looked back.

And yet, even as this new rhythm settled in, a flicker of uncertainty remained. I could feel it at the edge of my awareness: the next challenge was coming. Something far bigger than missed routines or old distractions. And I knew that when it arrived, it would test everything I had worked so hard to build.
