I hate blind spots.
Not the ones on the road,the ones that appear when you guard down.
The moment i walked into that restaurant i felt it.someone was .
I didn't look up i never do. I've trained myself to stay calm,to let curiosity die before it ruins me.i opened my laptop,connected to the secured network,and started working.
The client wqnted results in two hours.
Someone inside his company had leaked sensitive files, and he wanted mole exposed before sunset.typical request.i didn't ask why or what the files contained my job wasn't to care. It was to fix it.
My handler called halfway through.
"New location "he asked
"Yes"i said quietly crowded enough,not suspicious".
"Good keep it clean,dont get noticed by anyone".
"I never gets noticed,you know that more than anyone else".
"I know that.but it's good to always be careful".
He hung up.
I exhaled slowly and forced myself to focus.The keys clicked under my fingers fast,precise in less than an hour,i found the leak and redirected the files to a secure server,Another job done.
Then i saw it.
A reflection in the glass window across from me,someone sitting a few tables away,watching.his face was calm, unreadable. He wasn't pretending to check his phone or sip a drink. He was just looking.I shut my laptop,paid my bill, and left.
The moment I stepped outside,my instincts kicked in,I heard footsteps behind me,steady I didn't turn,I walked faster then the black car appeared.
Why is this guy following me? I don't even know him. Is he a stalker,he doesn't seem so. He looks like a decent guy.
My heart skipped.
He didn't look like a threat.More like someone who's trying to help.the car sped off before i could react.and the stranger stayed back, as if making sure i was safe.
I didn't know who he was.But i know that look in his eyes,the look of someone who'd just stepped into a story they don't understand.
