The next morning, Emma woke up especially earlier than usual. She could not sleep any longer after the tense night before, and she hoped that a good breakfast might ease the strained atmosphere between her and Jackson. With determination in her heart, she stepped out of her room and headed toward the kitchen, intending to personally make him a warm breakfast. But the moment she opened the door, a scene made her stop. On the floor, right in front of her room, was a neatly placed box of medicine.
Emma bent down and picked up the medicine box, unable to stop an uncomfortable feeling from rising in her heart. She knew Jackson had left the house very early, perhaps even before dawn. Looking at the box, she realized he was still worried about her, still taking care of her even while they were angry with each other. But this concern only made her heart ache more, because she knew Jackson was avoiding her, unwilling to face her after what had happened the night before.
