Elwyn's POV,
I hung up the phone,
feeling like my entire world was shattering. The car sped forward, every second
stretching out like an eternity. I couldn't stop imagining the worst scenarios:
Dennis being kidnapped, lost... Every fear a mother could have weighed down on
me, making my heart feel like it was going to explode.
When I arrived at the
kindergarten, the car screeched to a halt. I barely stopped the engine before I
flung the door open and rushed out. My hands were trembling uncontrollably as I
ran into the school grounds. Ms. Smith was standing at the door, pacing nervously,
her eyes darting anxiously toward the school gates. She looked as if she
couldn't calm herself down, and when she saw me approaching, she hurried over.
"Ms. Elwyn, I'm
so sorry. We tried our best, but..." Her voice broke off, unable to finish
her sentence. Her eyes were filled with regret and panic.
