Chapter 46: The Coffee Order
Chloe had lost, and she was taking it badly.
She sat down across from April on Friday with her notebook closed. Closed was never a good sign. A closed notebook meant she had nothing to highlight.
"The front desk at Calloway has been warned," she said. "I called again at nine this morning, and the woman who answered said, 'Is this the delivery service?' in a very flat voice. Someone has told them about me."
"Jun-Ho told them?"
"Or the management did. Either way, I'm burned." Chloe pushed her glasses up. "I tried the registrar. His transfer file is restricted. Not missing. Restricted. There's a difference, and it means someone with a very good lawyer asked nicely."
"Your mother is a very good lawyer."
"I considered asking her for a records request," Chloe said, "and then I considered the conversation that would follow." She shuddered. "So no. I've got seven pages of nothing, April. A wall with a nice paint job."
