Chapter 2 - CURSED IS THEIR PEACE

"Eryon! Eryon! Where is this crab for graciousness sake."

The two friends were on duty to polish the Fire mirrors along with a few other Phoenix fairies.

As usual for Eryon, he had probably run off to the Griffin clan.

His friend, Mordrick never understood his obsession with animals or 'pets' as Eryon called them.

"At least he is done with his portion. You on the other hand have ten mirrors left to polish," Mordrick's little brother graciously pointed out.

"And you have how many left again?" Mordrick replied half interested.

"You are venturing off topic as usual," Darren replied.

They each finished their duties for the evening and headed back together to meet the other members of the clan and join their daily meeting at dusk.

Mordrick looked for his usual spot and found Eryon sitting with a bluebird perched on his shoulders.

"Crab," He said to his friend, by way of greeting.

Eryon just smiled and gave the bluebird some berries from his pocket.

The meeting lasted longer than usual and by the time the meeting was to be adjourned, Mordrick was already asleep and far away in another land.

Eryon pushed his face off his shoulders for the thousandth time and then stood up abruptly.

The meeting had ended.

Mordrick woke up startled out of his brains and hit his friend when he saw him laughing.

They all retired to bed that night. All of them, tired from the day's activities and ready to rest for tomorrow's duties.

***********************************************

A scream was heard across the Phoenix clan early the next morning. The piercing scream was followed by the bell ringing vigorously.

There was commotion as some rushed to the bell tower to see what the emergency was.

And news started to spread, the mortal realm was engulfed in flames.

Each of the fairies rushed to the Mirrori, the place where the fire mirrors were kept.

Each of them stood in front of a mirror and began using their powers to save the cities in flames and the people burning up and crying for help.

The fires became worse by the minute and the fairies' powers were not making it better.

They began to panic and some females began to cry as they all watched the city burn before their eyes.

Darren rushed to his mother whose eyes were drenched with tears.

"Mordrick and Eryon. They're gone," He said to her.
