I leaned forward, pushing my bike faster through the early morning air. Floating forward as the chill winds tried to pull me back.
A few cars whooshed past me as I accelerated on the highway, the only sound I could hear through my helmet being my thoughts and the sound of my bike's engine.
How I wished it was only the latter.
White hair, purple eyes, lavender scent. Thoughts of that person ran through my head , like an athlete in an infinite loop.
The source of my nightmare.
Just one person, had managed to change my entire perception of the world. I thought I was untouchable.
But here I was, at the mercy of some psycho, whose identity I didn't even know. I clenched my jaw at the thought, it wasn't like there was anything else I could do.
Oh, how my numerous enemies would revel in this new development.
Or was that the culprit's plan? To let the entire world know that the powerful Feng Lang was not so untouchable after all?
I huffed, the screen of my helmet fogging up for a bit.
He should enjoy his short moment of bliss because it wasn't going to last long. I was definitely going to find out who he/she was. And when I did…
Just then, the watch on my wrist began to beep, signaling a phone call. I looked down for a second to check the caller.
The moment I saw my PA's name light up on the screen, I looked for a place to park. Maybe he has news from Ruiqing. I thought, and my heart began to race. Luckily, there was a gas station up ahead.
I brought my bike to a smooth stop, then pulled off my helmet. Just in time for me to answer, immediately the second call came through.
"Feng Lang." My voice was cool and collected, no betrayal of my anticipation.
"Mr Xu's secretary called to change the meeting venue." My face dropped. Not at all the news I was hoping for. "It will now be held at the Xu estate." Chen Yu's even voice added.
"That man is as insufferable as ever." I said, Throwing my leg over the bike and fixing it to stand properly.
"There's more." I straightened, my chest filling with hope. About the culprit? "The chairman sent a professional stylist to your place right after you left for your morning ride." Come on Chen Yu!! I all but roared into the .
"He's been a little too close with Mr Xu these days," Chen Yu continued, oblivious to my frustration. "which leads me to believe that the sudden change in venue might be more than just a spur of the moment decision." As his words sank in, I realized that this might be important information after all.
"Go on" I urged, leaning on my bike. Just then, my phone vibrated, and I took it out of my pocket to find images from Chen Yu. My brow lifted in curiosity.
"That's Xu Meilin, Mr Xu's only daughter." Chen Yu informed, as I scrolled through the images: some of her at the beach, at a party, at a park, and others with her family. I recognized Mr Xu instantly from the few times we met in the past. Some pictures had her with two identical looking men, which I presumed were her bothers.
Look wise, she was very attractive. The type I usually went for, porcelain skin, long hair, soft facial features, F-Spec.
"An A-Gen Omega, the type you usually go for. I hear she's been waiting for a Z-Gen Alpha to come around."
I barked out a laughter. " My old man has finally gone senile."
"In his own words, it'll put an end to your recklessness and your—please forgive me for saying this—- 'disgusting promiscuity'" Chen Yu added, making the whole plot sound even more ridiculous.
"So what's the plan now?" I released a breath, pushing my phone back into my pocket.
"All up to you, Sir." Chen Yu replied.
"On your bed, you'll find the outfit the stylist picked out. And right beside it, an alternative I prepared, which is a bit less… desperate." My lips pulled into a smirk. I loved it when people in my life were efficient.
"Enough about my father's shenanigans. Any word from Ruiqing about the DNA sample, or the cctv footage?"
"I was getting to that. Officer Wang has already collaborated with the building's management to clear all cctv records from that night. The only available copy is in his possession. He's going to 'investigate it in line with the law' and give you feedback once he has something. His own words."
I groaned. Ruiqing could be such a pain sometimes. All he had to do was give me the footage, and look the other way. Of all the professions in the world, he just had to choose law enforcement. I rolled my eyes.
"Save your eye roll for this next part," Chen Yu stated, and I chuckled at the accuracy. "According to officer Shen, the result of the DNA sample will be out earliest by close of this week." A whole weak?!
"Bloody close of this week?!" I shouted, forgetting for a moment, that I was in public. From the corner of my eyes, I saw a woman jump in shock, looking at me with concern. I scowled at her, and went on with my call.
"That nauseating goody two shoes. What is the use of our taxes? This is what happens when you don't handle business yourself" I brought my hand to massage my temples. If only I wasn't trying to keep all this from my family.
Then, stating with a calm voice "The test result better be delivered with the actual culprit."
Just then, my watch began to vibrate again signaling another incoming call. I checked the ID and clicked my tongue in annoyance. Taking a beat to calm myself, I let out a breath, then spoke. "I'll call you back."
"Right, Sir." Came Chen Yu's quick reply, before the line went dead. I immediately tapped on the green button to answer. Expecting nothing but more fraustration from this next call.
"Father." I forced through clenched jaws.
