Suddenly, a giant shadow beast that looked like a gorilla with shadow tattoo markings around its body, emerged from Ervin's shadow and stood beside him. The presence of this shadow beast attracted a lot of shadow monsters and they began to climb the building towards Ervin and Kato.
Ervin nodded his head and his shadow beast jumped down to fight the shadow monsters below them. That's when Kato realized he hadn't seen Ervin use his Shadow Technique up until that point.
Kato: Was that a shadow monster you just summoned?
Ervin: Oh… this is the first time I've used my technique in front of you so I get that you could be confused. (clears his throat) To answer your question, no that wasn't a shadow monster, that was a Shadow beast medium.
Kato: ???
Ervin scratched his head and sighed.
Ervin: Well to put it in simpler terms, a Shadow monster is a monster formed when Shadow energy is forced into a person's body. Shadow beast mediums are different. They're a part of the Hashido Clan's inherited technique so they follow commands and like our guardian angels.
Kato: Oh… That makes sense.
Ervin: Now to why I brought you here. I wanted to teach you about the Harmonic Techniques.
Kato: Harmonic Techniques?
Ervin nodded
Ervin: Harmonic Techniques are techniques that can be used by both Shadows and Clarions. When a shadow wants to use his/her techniques they chant the word "Black" because that is what starts the gathering of the shadow energy to power up the techniques. The same thing applies to Clarions but they chant the word "White". If the words "black" or "white" are not chanted, the techniques will not start.
He paused.
Ervin: But Harmonic techniques are different because you don't need to chant black or white before they can be used.
Kato: Really? But why don't they need chants to activate?
Ervin: The Shadows, Clarions and the conduits are all connected to Nexus Energy.
Kato: You mean that energy that split up into Shadow and Light energy?
Ervin: Yeah.
Kato: But how can we be connected to something that's already split apart?
Ervin: Nexus Energy isn't just energy. It has a space, a dormant layer of reality that serves as the converging point between shadow and light energy and every single Shadow and Clarions and even conduits who have very little energy are all connected to it. All because of that piece that somehow found its way to our world and split apart.
Kato's eyes shone in amazement.
Kato: Amazing. So how does Nexus Energy connect to the… uh…
Ervin: Harmonic techniques?
Kato: Yeah that.
Ervin: Well Shadow and Light energy are both formed from Nexus energy and normally shadows and Clarions cannot use their normal energies to perform harmonic techniques because their energies are not strong enough to power the techniques.
Kato: Not strong enough? They're that complex?
Ervin nodded.
Ervin: So, to use harmonic techniques, a Shadow or Clarion would have to connect to that Nexus space. And when you connect to it, the nexus would then allow you to use harmonic techniques by temporarily connecting to it so you won't need chants to establish the connection. But establishing that connection takes tons of time and effort and a lot of energy to do it. But you're already doing it.
Kato: I am?
Ervin: Yes. As Heirs of the Fracture, we have the unique connection to Nexus Energy because of the fragment body parts we're born with.
Kato: Wait… that means…
Ervin: Yeah. Every time you use the God Eye, you're temporarily connected to Nexus Energy.
Kato's eyes shone in amazement once again.
Kato: I don't even know if cool is enough to describe this.
Ervin: (chuckled) We haven't even gotten to the Harmonic Techniques yet.
Kato: That's true!!
Ervin: Now let's continue. Now there are only three Harmonic Techniques in existence right now and they are Harmonic Mantle Essence, Harmonic Restoration and Perfect Manifestation.
Kato: So both Clarions and Shadows can use these Techniques?
Ervin: Yes but not all shadows or Clarions can use them. The easiest to learn among them is the HARMONIC MANTLE ESSENCE. This is a technique that uses the energy of the user to protect them from the attacks of others. In other words, it neutralizes the effect of someone's techniques on you. But you can't use HARMONIC MANTLE ESSENCE along with your technique.
Kato: So basically it's like a shield?
Ervin: Yes and you can't use your regular technique along at the same time because to make that neutralizing effect, it'll make use of the energy you'd use to power up your techniques to defend you.
Kato: Ooooh…
Ervin: Now to HARMONIC RESTORATION. This is a technique that allows you to heal from life threatening injuries. Example…
Ervin reached for his pockets and brought out a small dagger and in a swift moment, he cut off his left hand.
Kato's face fell pale at that moment.
Kato: HUHHHHHHH?! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!! DOESN'T THAT HURT A LOT?!
Ervin: Yeah it does but this is the best way to show you how HARMONIC RESTORATION works. Now stop yelling.
Ervin then focused all his shadow energy to his left hand and Kato saw his energy change to the same transparent white color he saw Dana use when he first met her last month and soon after, Ervin's hand grew back.
Kato: Woah… So that's Harmonic Restoration?
Ervin: Yeah. It's a very rare technique among both Shadows and lighters and very difficult to awaken let alone master it even for the Heirs. But there are some whose techniques allow them to have a higher advantage over others.
Kato: Advantages?
Ervin: A person's technique can allow them to learn Harmonic Restoration faster than most even if they aren't an heir. Therefore Harmonic Restoration can be applied in different ways and isn't limited to just one method like mine. For example, the inherited technique of the Hamorabi Clan can allow you to learn it faster than most would.
Kato's eyes shone as he suddenly recalled the name of his technique.
Kato: Oh… I see.
Ervin: I'm glad you're catching on real quick. Now we go on to the last part.
