"It's not about work," Seron said quietly, his voice almost breaking. "I just… I wanted to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything. You sacrificed everything for me. You stayed with me through it all… for everything you did for me, thank you. And for all I did to you… I'm truly sorry. I didn't appreciate you back then…"
Ruby finally lifted her gaze and met his eyes. The man before her, the arrogant, untouchable Seron, was gone, replaced by someone raw, almost fragile.
"Mr. Seron Byron, this is your place of work…" she began, her voice steady but careful.
"I know, Ruby," he interrupted gently, stepping closer. "I'm saying I'm sorry for everything. Truly sorry."
Ruby's hands tightened at her sides. "You think you can just show up here, say you're sorry, and suddenly everything disappears?" Her voice trembled slightly, though she kept her anger tightly in check. Maybe she was more used to the proud, arrogant Seron, not this one broken, vulnerable, standing before her.
