I made my way to the section of the city where the Gilded Vanguard lived after leaving the portal since it was about to close.
This section of the city was of a much higher quality in architecture and security because of how important the job than I did was to our races survival.
As I approached the gate that separated the section from the rest of the city I was greeted by a human guard that was wearing a full set of black body armor and also using a baton with a small amount electrical charge.
There was a barrier of blue energy that was activated to separate this section of the city from the rest of it.
"Identification please miss. I need to know if your name is among the registered name of those that are allowed to enter here."
I removed the glove from my right hand and revealed a barcode on my right wrist.
The guard then grabbed a scanner off of his belt and activated it so that he could scan my wrist.
The scanner emitted a small green light as it ran across my wrist.
Then he checked the small screen on the scanner after the scanning was complete.
"Your name is destiny and you are a new Gilded Vanguard." After he said that , he put the scanner back on his belt. "I am so sorry about the inconvenience that I have brought to do you, but you cannot be too careful."
After he apologized, he opened the barrier and I walked through it.
I made it to where my home was located so that I could rest after an intense day of battle. As a Gilded Vanguard we weren't given a simple and small appartment by the city. If we wanted to buy it a more expensive apartment in this section of town we weren't allowed to, but this was something that I decided that I did not want to do for sometime because I thought it would be smarter to invest my earnings into better gear which would make my job easier after every successful mission.
I made it into the small room where are all I had was a bed and a nightstand. Then I passed out due to exhaustion after I removed all of my clothes and my bare body made contact with my bed.
*** In The Morning ***
As the sunlight shot from outside I started to wake from my sleep with slow blinks as the light made contact with my eyes.
Today my goals were going to be to go and use the Darvian Crystals for a possibilityat getting better armor, and secondly try to get a decent deal on the selling price of the skill book.
Then I put my leather armor back on, and put my sniper on my back and my knife in the hilt on my left hip.
I chose to go and sell my items first, and after that I would get some breakfast to eat.
After I left my apartment I made my way to the back section of the alley where Stephenie's shop was located. I thought that I would ask her what her opinion was on what I should do with the skill book since I did not plan to use it myself.
As I stepped into her shop I was greeted by her warm smile. At the sight of that it made all of the struggle that I went through well on the other side of the portal yesterday worth it.
"Oh it's you. How did your first portal battle go?" She asked in a graceful tone as she wobbled her way towards me on her cane.
"It was quite challenging if I was to be honest, but I ended up making it out with only a few scratches." I said to her so that I could put her mind at ease.
"That is good to hear. What might I help you with today? Is it more items that you need to buy?"
"Actually, it is not buying that I need your aid with, but it is selling of an item that I do not know the value of." I said to her as I pulled out the skill book from a bag that I had brought from my apartment.
I placed the skill book on the table , and she ran her old fingers over it to get a feel for the book.
"This is a skill book. It is very useful to you as an item that will help unlock your potential as a Gilded Vanguard. Why do you wish to sell it as opposed to using the knowledge that is inside of it?" She asked me as she looked up at me.
"The skill that it gives me is not useful to what i'm trying to do. I did not know if you recommended that I should sell it for money, or I could always keep it to give it to someone else in exchange for another skill book."
"If that is what you wish to do I can not help you because I do not know anyone that would be able to sell you that item". Stephenie said to me as she handed the skill book back to me.
"I understand that you are not able to buy it from me, but it was worth a shot. Maybe I will go and see if Zachary knows anyone that might be able to buy it from me." I said to her as I put the skill book back in my bag.
"The least I can do is wish you luck". She said in a kind tone to me as I started to walk out of the shop.
"I will stop by here the next time that I need medical supplies". I said to her in a respectful tone as I walked out of the shop waving my hand at her.
The marketplace was just as busy this morning as it was yesterday afternoon when I walked through it.
I quickly made my way to athe first side alley that I came across so that I could get away from all of this excitement that was going on throughout the marketplace.
After I made it into the alleyway, I was finally able to appreciate the silence.
Do to the silence, I was able to hear some murmuring that was going on in the alleyway.
I made my way to the source of the murmuring, and when I was now close enough I saw that there were two male humans that were beating her with their bare fists.
"Come on we outrank you as Gilded Vanguards. That means that we have the right to all of the spoils that the party earns." The first male said he continued to punch the female.
"I am the one that defeated the creature. That means whatever they leave behind is mine." She said , in response with a slightly weaker voice.
It was clear to me that these men had been beating on her for a bit so I decided that as a woman I would step in and help her. After all , if one woman cannot look out for another who will.
"Hey boys, why don't you pick on somebody that can actually defend themselves". I said to them as I started to walk down the alleyway.
They both turned around and looked at me with very perverted gazes.
"Why exactly is a fine human-like yourself? In such a dark place". The first of the male humans said as he approached me.
"I bet that you came down here in search of a real man". The second man said as he approached me and started to play with my hair.
"You are right.I need to find a strong man who can guide me around this intense marketplace." I said to him in a soft and innocent voice.
" I would be glad to guide you if you were to make it worth my while". The first man said.
"Oh really" I said to him as I approached him , closing the distance between us so that there was only about six inches between us.
I kicked the male that what is directly in front of me in the balls, snd he fell to the ground.
Then I quickly rushed at the other one and put my knife to his throat.
" Now , I want both of you to leave. You will never bug this woman ever again, and if you do I will know and I will come for you and chop your man parts off. Are we clear?" I asked the one that I had my knife to his throat as I increase the pressure just a bit to wear there was a small amount of blood dripping from the center of his neck.
I noticed that he started to sweat after I mentioned what would happen to him if he ever tried to attack this woman again.
"We are so clear; so clean" he said as the pressure of my knife against his neck increased.
"Good, now I want you two to get out of my sight." I said to both of them as I released the male that I had with my knife at his throat and kicked him in the ass.
When they left , I walked over to where I saw the female and kneeled down so that we were roughly around the same eye level.
"Do not worry, I am not here to hurt you." I said to her as I stretched out my hand with it open to display my good intentions.
"Why exactly did you step in to help me? Did you have a reason for saving me?" She asked me as she accepted my hand.
" Yes and no". I send to her in response to her question.
"What do you mean by yes and no? How could it possibly be both at the same time?"
" Well , first no I just wanted to help you, and secondly yes because if I was not to step in to help another fellow woman who else would. In this world that we live, women must look out for one another you never know what a man will do to either take advantage of or manipulate you." I said in response to her question as I lifted her up onto her feet.
"My name is Destiny. What is yours?". I asked her as I looked into her eyes , which were a dark emerald green.
"My name is Sophitia. I owe you my life, and a life debt is something that the members of my family take very seriously."
Did I make a mistake by saving this female who now says that she owes me a life debt, or did I possibly do the right thing by stepping in and rescuing a fellow female Gilded Vanguard. Only time would be able to tell if I had made a mistake, or possibly done the right thing.
