Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: The Lucky Coin

"Candle Wall!"

Mr. 3 roared, slamming his hands on the ground. Instantly, a white wall of solid wax erupted from the earth.

Vwoom!

The Tornado Tempo surged forward, crashing into the wax barrier. The gale raged against the wall, its energy rapidly depleting until it dissipated completely.

"It seems the tornado is useless against this wax-man!" Nami sighed. With a flick of her fingers, a glittering gold coin materialized in her hand. One side was engraved with the word "LUCKY," while the reverse featured the pattern of a cat with stars in its eyes.

"I'm counting on you, Lucky Coin!" Nami took a deep breath, her eyes fixed on the coin, and then hurled it at Mr. 3.

This Lucky Coin was a product of her recent research into her Devil Fruit abilities. It was simultaneously virtual and real, normally stored within her body but becoming a tangible object when she willed it. Nami could use the coin as a storage medium for her luck; the more luck it held, the more powerful its effects.

So far, Nami had only discovered one application for it: Luck Exchange. If the coin touched a target, she could choose to expend its stored luck to randomly and temporarily cancel one of their attributes. It was an incredibly powerful ability. Things like Devil Fruit powers and even physical stamina could be nullified, a hax-like power befitting a conceptual Paramecia Fruit.

Nami had already secretly tested it on Ryuuto, though he was none the wiser. Who else could she blame when Ryuuto was so stingy?

At the time, Ryuuto had praised the coin's exquisite craftsmanship and held it for a few moments to admire it. A moment later, he was struck by an overwhelming wave of drowsiness that seemed to well up from the depths of his soul. He didn't think much of it, assuming he hadn't slept well the night before. After returning the coin to Nami, he decided to go take a nap.

As it turned out, the luck Nami had spent had canceled Ryuuto's stamina, leaving him utterly drained and wanting nothing more than to sleep.

To see how long the effect lasted, Nami had even snuck into Ryuuto's room, which led to an embarrassing situation. Just two minutes after lying down and closing his eyes, Ryuuto suddenly felt his exhaustion vanish. He opened his eyes to find Nami tiptoeing beside his bed. The encounter ended with Ryuuto teasing her until she fled the room, her face bright red.

"Cancel his Devil Fruit ability!!!" Nami prayed inwardly as the Lucky Coin soared through the air. She desperately hoped it would negate Mr. 3's troublesome powers.

Clink!

The coin struck Mr. 3 squarely on the head. Nami had used her Mist Tempo to obscure his vision, allowing her to land the shot perfectly. Hearing the crisp sound, she knew she had succeeded.

"What did it cancel?" Nami murmured, cautiously watching Mr. 3 through the mist while clutching her Sorcery Clima-Tact.

She could see that his Devil Fruit ability hadn't vanished, yet he stood frozen, not even attempting to counterattack. This emboldened her. As she crept closer, she saw that Mr. 3's face was pale and he looked completely drained of energy.

"Could it be his stamina!"

A jolt of realization hit her. Nami twisted the end of her Clima-Tact, and two bubbles—one of cold air and one of hot—emerged from its tips. Under her control, the bubbles grew larger and began to drift toward each other in the air.

"What's happening? What was that thing?" Mr. 3 felt a profound sense of weakness wash over him, as if his stamina had been completely sapped. "Something gold hit me just now, but where did it go?" He tried to recall the moment of impact, but he had no idea what had happened to the coin.

This was one of the coin's special properties. It existed on the border between the tangible and intangible. At Nami's will, it could become ethereal at any moment. The instant it struck Mr. 3, it had turned intangible and reappeared inside her body.

Feeling an indescribable weakness, Mr. 3 saw Nami charging toward him.

"Candle Fountain!"

He forced himself to act, using a move on the ground beneath her feet in hopes of trapping her permanently. But imagination was one thing, and reality was another. Deprived of his stamina, all he could manage was a small puddle of liquid wax about fifty centimeters in diameter. He strained to control the puddle, trying to make it engulf Nami, but even that was an immense struggle.

"This... when did this wax get here!" Nami hadn't noticed at first and found her foot caught in the waxy liquid. "Wait, this wax... it has no strength." As soon as she tried to pull free, her foot slipped out of the solution with ease.

"His stamina really is gone! This is my chance!"

Nami leaped back, easily breaking free from Mr. 3's feeble attack. She then looked up at the two air bubbles, which had now swelled to five meters in size and were hovering directly above her opponent's head.

VMMM! VMMMMMM!

The bubbles of hot and cold air pressed against each other, generating a deep, rumbling sound.

CRACK!

With a clap of thunder, a bolt of lightning erupted between them, streaking straight for Mr. 3!

"Tempo: Thunderbolt Arrow!" Nami cried out, pointing her Sorcery Clima-Tact at him.

"Not good!" Hearing the thunderous roar from above, Mr. 3 slammed his hands on the ground and used the last of his strength to summon a layer of white wax to cover his body. "Candle Ball!"

But he was simply too weak. Even working at his fastest, he could only form a thin, protective layer before the lightning descended.

Like a sword falling from the heavens, the brilliant bolt struck. The immense heat instantly melted the fragile wax shield before the lightning slammed directly into Mr. 3's body. The dazzling flash illuminated his terrified face.

"Ahhh...!"

With a final scream, Mr. 3 was struck down, smoke rising from his head.

"A direct hit!" Nami shouted in triumph.

My Lucky Coin really is incredible! she thought with a surge of pride. With his stamina canceled, Mr. 3 not only lacked the energy to trap her with Candle Fountain but also couldn't properly protect himself with Candle Ball.
