Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Modern Comfort 2

The fashion show officially ended at that point, transitioning smoothly into more intimate activities. The lingerie didn't stay on very long, but Nova mentally filed away that he'd absolutely be making more sets in the future.

Later, as they lay tangled together in the aftermath, Luna traced patterns on Nova's chest lazily.

"I'm keeping all of these clothes," she said. "But you're right that I can't wear most of them publicly. The sect would have a collective heart attack if I showed up to an elder meeting in shorts and a hoodie."

"Traditional robes for work, comfortable clothes for home," Nova agreed. "Though I might make you some formal dresses for special occasions. The kind that'll make everyone forget how to breathe."

Luna laughed. "You have an obsession with seeing me in different outfits."

"Guilty. You're beautiful in everything, but I enjoy variety."

"Flatterer." But she was smiling. "What about you? Do you want new clothes too?"

"Already planning them," Nova confirmed. "Modern casual wear for around the palace, traditional robes when I need to look like a proper Personal Disciple, maybe some formal suits for special events."

"Suits?"

"Earth formal wear. You'll see when I make them."

They lapsed into comfortable silence for a while, just enjoying each other's presence.

Then Nova's stomach growled.

Luna lifted her head to look at him. "When was the last time you actually ate?"

Nova thought about it. "Two days ago? Maybe three?"

"Nova—"

"I've been running on qi and dual cultivation energy," Nova said defensively. "At our cultivation level, we don't technically need food anymore."

"But you clearly want food," Luna pointed out. "Your stomach is demanding it loudly."

Nova grinned. "You know what? You're right. And I just realized—I can synthesize food the same way I synthesized clothes."

Luna sat up, interested. "Food from energy? That seems more complex than fabric."

"It is. But the principle is the same—just more intricate molecular arrangements." Nova was already getting excited. "I could recreate dishes from Earth. Food that doesn't exist in this world. Want to try?"

"Absolutely."

An hour later, Nova had converted one corner of Luna's chambers into a makeshift kitchen using synthesized equipment. The Lotus Palace actually had a full kitchen—this world's cultivation technology included spirit-powered appliances after all—but it was in a distant wing that neither of them felt like walking to.

Instead, Nova just created what he needed: a spirit-powered stove (much easier than trying to build one from scratch—he just synthesized a formation plate that converted qi into heat), cooking utensils, plates, and glasses.

Luna watched in fascination as he worked, using his jade phone—this world's equivalent of a smartphone powered by spirit formations—to order ingredients from the sect's supply network.

"Spirit beef that's been raised on qi-rich grass for a hundred years," Nova read from his order confirmation. "Spiritual wheat flour aged in dimensional storage. Vegetables that contain trace amounts of elemental energy. Everything in this world is enhanced compared to Earth."

"Is that a problem?" Luna asked.

"The opposite. The base ingredients are actually better. I just need to prepare them in Earth style."

The ingredients arrived within minutes, delivered by a drone-like spirit construct that flew right to their window. Nova paid with spirit stones and got to work.

He started with something simple: burgers.

Using his electromagnetic control, Nova shaped the spiritual beef into perfect patties. Seasoned them with salt, pepper, and trace amounts of Fire Law to enhance the flavor (he was getting creative with his Law applications). Synthesized buns from the spiritual wheat flour—soft, slightly sweet, perfect for sandwiching.

The spirit stove cooked the patties perfectly, the meat sizzling with released spiritual energy that made the entire chamber smell amazing.

Luna watched the entire process with intense curiosity. "We have cow meat in this world, but I've never seen it prepared like this."

"That's because cultivation world cuisine is all about pill-grade precision and spiritual energy balance," Nova said, assembling the burger. "Earth food is about flavor and experience."

He added cheese (synthesized), lettuce (from the spiritual vegetables), tomato slices, and a sauce he'd created by mixing several ingredients. The final product looked like it had come from a gourmet restaurant.

"Try it," Nova said, handing the burger to Luna.

She took it hesitantly, examining it from all angles. "How do you eat it?"

"Just bite into it. All the layers at once."

Luna took a careful bite.

Her eyes widened. She chewed slowly, savoring the explosion of flavors—the savory beef, the melted cheese, the fresh vegetables, the tangy sauce all combining into something greater than the sum of its parts.

"This is..." She took another bite. "This is incredible. We have spirit beast feasts that cost thousands of spirit stones, but this is completely different. The complexity of flavor—"

"Earth food is all about flavor layering," Nova explained, making a burger for himself. "Cultivation world cuisine optimizes for spiritual energy content. This is optimized for taste."

They ate together, Luna making happy sounds with each bite that Nova found absolutely endearing.

"What else can you make?" Luna asked after finishing her burger.

Nova grinned. "So much more. Ice cream. Ramen. Pizza. Pasta. Desserts. This world has jade phones and spirit cars and teleportation centers, but somehow nobody thought to make a cheeseburger."

"Make this so called ice cream next," Luna said immediately.

"Demanding," Nova teased.

"I'm the Sect Leader. I can demand what I want."

Nova laughed and got to work on ice cream. The process was more complex—required precise temperature control and the creation of specific crystalline structures—but his Law manipulation made it straightforward.

Twenty minutes later, they were eating homemade ice cream (vanilla with strawberry swirl) while sitting on the bed in matching hoodies.

Luna savored each spoonful like it was divine nectar. "This is so cold and sweet and creamy. How did your world survive without cultivation when they could create things like this?"

"We prioritized comfort and pleasure instead of immortality," Nova said. "Different trade-offs."

They spent the rest of the afternoon like that—Nova creating different foods from his Earth memories, Luna trying everything with the enthusiasm of someone discovering a completely new branch of the culinary arts.

Ramen with perfect noodles and rich broth. Pizza with cheese that stretched perfectly. Chocolate cake that made Luna actually moan. French fries with just the right amount of salt.

"I'm going to gain weight," Luna said eventually, lying back on the bed with her stomach full and a blissful expression on her face.

"Not possible at your cultivation level," Nova pointed out. "Your body automatically processes everything into spiritual energy."

"Then I'm going to eat like this every day."

Nova laughed and lay down beside her, pulling her close. "I'll make you whatever you want."

They stayed like that for a while, content and comfortable and utterly domestic in a way that would have shocked anyone who knew the fearsome Sect Leader Luna Ophelia.

As evening approached and they were getting ready for their usual cultivation session, something nagged at Nova's consciousness.

A feature. A function. Something he'd learned about during his constitution's awakening but had never actually used consciously.

The Dimension of Infinite Qi.

His constitution had accessed it automatically during the awakening process—that's where the energy for his transformation had come from. But the System had mentioned that as his soul strengthened, he could actively summon a transdimensional gate to that dimension.

And with all his soul tempering, all his advancement, surely his soul was stronger now than during the awakening?

Nova sat up suddenly, his mind racing.

"What is it?" Luna asked, noticing his change in demeanor.

"I just remembered something," Nova said slowly. "A function of my constitution I've been neglecting."

"What kind of function?"

Nova hesitated. He still hadn't told Luna about the Infinite Constitution's true nature—that secret was too dangerous to share, even with someone he loved. But he could share some aspects.

"I have access to a specialized dimension," Nova said carefully. "A place filled with extremely high-quality spiritual energy. During my awakening, my constitution used it automatically. But I think... I think I might be able to actively open a gate to it now."

Luna's eyes widened. "A personal dimensional space with spiritual energy? That's—Nova, that's the kind of thing that causes wars. Sects would kill to control even a small dimensional qi source."

"Which is why this stays between us," Nova said firmly. "You and me. No one else can ever know."

Luna nodded seriously. "Agreed. But if you can actually access it..." Her expression shifted to excited realization. "Your resource problem would be solved. You wouldn't need to rely on pills and spirit stones."

"Exactly what I was thinking." Nova stood and moved to the center of the cultivation chamber. "I want to try opening the gate. Will you monitor me in case something goes wrong?"

"Always," Luna said immediately, moving into position with her spiritual sense ready.

Nova closed his eyes and turned his consciousness inward, focusing on the connection to his Infinite Constitution. The System had mentioned that gate maintenance would drain soul power continuously—the longer it stayed open, the more it would cost.

But with his soul tempered through the Eternal Cycle Scripture, strengthened by absorbing Rowan and Aldric's souls, surely he could maintain it for at least a few minutes right?

Only one way to find out.

Nova reached for that connection, that link to something beyond normal dimensional boundaries, and pulled.

The air in front of him shimmered.

A crack appeared in reality itself.

And through it, Nova could feel something vast. Ancient. Infinite.

The gate was opening.
