Chapter 143: Ghosts in the Void
Bzzzzzt.
The sound was a flat, monotonous hum, like an endless ceiling of dying fluorescent tubes vibrating behind damp, mold-stained walls.
Dax opened his eyes.
There was no lantern light here, no slow breathing of a wyvern outside his window, no warmth from the waking world. In every direction spread an infinite, suffocating expanse of yellowed wallpaper, water-stained ceiling tiles, and sodden carpet that smelled of old rain and decay.
The Backrooms?
He stood at the center of a narrow, jaundiced intersection and looked down at his hands. Even here, faint fissures marred his skin, mirroring the vessel he had left behind on the surface.
Unwilling to linger in the monotone corridors, he raised his right hand and snapped his fingers, commanding space to fold and carry him directly into Infinitum.
Snap.
The sharp sound bounced down a thousand damp walls and faded into the endless hall.
Nothing happened.
