Chapter 30
Just as Kakarai reached out to assimilate the fallen creature into his arm, the corpse twitched.
Violently.
Its body began to thrash, spasming like something dragged back from the edge of death. Muscles convulsed. Bones shifted. The stillness of the yellow corridor shattered.
Kakarai froze.
Wrapped in his fixation on the corpse at his feet, the mannequin that had been standing in front of him vanished from his line of sight.
In a flash, it stood directly behind him.
A massive club descended.
Bang!
Kakarai's head was slammed straight into the floor.
Before his body could even register the impact—
Bang!
Again.
The blow drove his skull downward, his face smashing into the damp carpet, rebounding upward only to be hammered back down once more. The dull, wet sound echoed through the silent Backrooms like iron striking stone.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
