Camile's hand was still tightened around his wrist. Her fingers trembled despite her effort to stay calm, and she hated that he could probably feel it.
"You saw the meteors," she said, forcing her voice to remain steady even though her heart was racing. "Some people will die, but some will change. We just need to find them first, before someone else does."
Mack stared at her without speaking, his eyes dark and sharp as if he were weighing every single word she had just said. After a few seconds that felt far too long, he finally loosened his grip from her neck and stepped back.
Camile bent forward slightly, coughing as she sucked in air, her chest burning as she tried to steady her breathing. She straightened slowly, refusing to show weakness even when her knees were threatening to fail her.
"You better be right," Mack said quietly, though his tone carried far more threat than if he had shouted. "Because if this turns out to be nonsense, I won't forgive you."
