Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 – Too Lazy to Care

As Guan Xing drove the luxury "King" model, taking Cheng YunYa slowly out of the car dealership, she could no longer hold in her laughter.

Cheng YunYa was not a frivolous woman. At twenty-seven, she had already become the general manager of a company. Although she worked for someone else, she had always considered herself steady, composed, and introverted, rarely showing her true self in public. But thinking back to Xia Ziliang's face, flushed with embarrassment and his awkward silence, she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. The frustration she had felt earlier evaporated, and she felt as light as a bird. She even considered hugging this doctor and giving him a big kiss, but her rationality stopped her.

"Doctor Guan, you're such a bad guy, messing with others like that," she said, though there was a playful tone in her voice. She had already seen through Xia Ziliang's ulterior motives, but never imagined that Guan Xing would actually pay the three million car fee on the spot.

Guan Xing didn't get angry. He understood that Cheng YunYa wasn't blaming him. Everything that had happened with Xia Ziliang was his own fault. He was digging his own grave, and Guan Xing could imagine Xia Ziliang still explaining himself to the car dealership owner right now.

"It's not my fault. He was the one who insisted on buying the car. I just went along with him," Guan Xing said casually, not sounding like he had been manipulated but merely following the flow of events.

Cheng YunYa chuckled again and added, "Yes, yes, it's not your fault. But when you left earlier, you even told him, 'Mr. Xia, in a few days, let's go on a road trip in our new cars.' You were really setting him up!"

Cheng YunYa could tell, as many others could, that Xia Ziliang didn't have the money. He wasn't planning on buying the car at all.

"If I hadn't paid for the car, I would have been the one he mocked. He probably would have said something even worse. What do you think?" Guan Xing replied. Xia Ziliang's character truly wasn't up to standard.

Cheng YunYa understood what Guan Xing said was true and stopped defending Xia Ziliang. Instead, she relaxed and opened her arms in the car, laughing out loud, "A luxury car really is comfortable, right? Doctor Guan, you really don't show it. You're earning a salary of five thousand a month, yet you drive a three million car."

"Yes, and I also have a billionaire girlfriend," Guan Xing teased, feeling infected by her excitement.

Immediately, Cheng YunYa's face flushed red. She yelled, "Hey, Doctor Guan! Don't get things wrong. That was just for show! I'm officially declaring—I'm not your girlfriend. But I can treat you as a friend."

As she felt a mixture of embarrassment and joy, Cheng YunYa couldn't help but wonder. From the first time they met, she had told herself to keep a distance from him. But now, in this situation, she was once again pulled closer to him.

"Alright, alright, I was just joking. General Manager Cheng, don't get mad. I don't want to be fired tomorrow!" Guan Xing laughed and turned the car around smoothly. "Where do you want to go? I don't have anything planned right now, I'll drop you off."

Cheng YunYa felt a little embarrassed, thinking of how much Guan Xing had done for her and how he had given her face. She replied in a soft voice, "Doctor Guan, we're friends now. You don't need to be so polite. Just call me YunYa like my other friends do."

"Since we're in such a nice car, of course, I'm happy to. Let's go to the Yangyang Club. I left my car there," Cheng YunYa didn't refuse and seemed to be treating him as a genuine friend now. Otherwise, with her beauty and status, she wouldn't be casually sitting in someone's car.

Guan Xing nodded without saying anything, and drove smoothly toward the Yangyang Club. The two chatted casually, getting along well. The most important thing was that Guan Xing didn't focus too much on her beauty like other men, which was something Cheng YunYa didn't particularly like.

The Yangyang Club was a women's fitness club, and Cheng YunYa came here every week. When they arrived at the entrance, they parted ways. Guan Xing didn't stay long and simply drove away. But as he looked back at Cheng YunYa, a subtle ripple passed through her beautiful eyes.

Her curiosity about this young doctor was piqued. A mere doctor, even if skilled, couldn't possibly earn so much money. She had never heard of a doctor who was a billionaire.

Work was for living, but how could a man who could casually buy a three-million-dollar car still work as a doctor earning five thousand a month?

At this moment, she couldn't quite understand this young man anymore.

On the road, Guan Xing received a call from the hospital director, who sounded weak and informed him that the investigation team had arrived and wanted to meet him for an interview. The director asked him to be careful and reassured him not to worry, but Guan Xing could tell the elder had taken on quite a bit of pressure.

After hanging up with the director, Du Juan also called. It seemed she had received some news.

She immediately said when the phone connected, "Doctor Guan! Doctor Guan! This is bad!"

"Don't worry, what happened?" Guan Xing comforted her.

"The investigation team somehow found your information and said you don't have the qualifications to be a lead surgeon. They're canceling your medical license over this surgery!" Du Juan's voice was full of anxiety.

Guan Xing couldn't help but laugh. The officials didn't even know where they got this information. Could they really just cancel his medical license on a whim?

"Don't worry, Xiao Juan. I'll handle it. It won't be a problem. You focus on studying," Guan Xing reassured her.

After hanging up with Du Juan, he sped up, heading toward the hospital. He was getting fed up with the so-called investigation. It was just a surgery, and he had done it with good intentions. He had only helped that female employee because he felt sorry for her. He didn't expect to end up in such a mess.

Or perhaps, this was just how things went in China.

When Guan Xing arrived at the hospital, Old Huang was already waiting for him at the entrance. Seeing the elder still worrying about him at his age, Guan Xing felt deeply moved. "Old Huang, I'm really sorry to trouble you."

"Ah, it's nothing. This surgery has shown us the hope for Chinese doctors. Compared to that, everything else is nothing," Old Huang said, his military-style spirit still strong. After speaking, he led Guan Xing into the hospital, telling him not to worry about the investigation team and just to tell the truth.

The room where the investigation was taking place was quiet, and a long table had three middle-aged men already seated. Of course, the chair in front was saved for him. These so-called investigators seemed to be treating him like a criminal being interrogated.

Guan Xing already felt a sense of dissatisfaction in his heart. When the chubby middle-aged man in the middle opened his mouth and asked the first question, Guan Xing lost all interest in cooperating.

As he sat down, the man asked, "Doctor Guan, do you know what serious mistake you've made?"

Guan Xing cursed inwardly, but he didn't respond. Instead, he slowly sat down, straightened his clothes, and then propped his legs up, looking at the three examiners with a sideways glance. He slowly and calmly asked, "If you know, then why don't you just tell me? I'll be all ears."

The chubby man swallowed hard, his body sinking into his chair with a "thud," the sound of flesh hitting the seat.

One of the subordinates, perhaps trying to act tough, stood up, looking stern and commanding, "Doctor Guan, please watch your behavior. You are part of the medical field, and should maintain a proper image. Acting all relaxed like that is inappropriate."

Guan Xing didn't even look at the subordinate. Instead, he flicked his jacket sleeve, speaking with a tone of sarcasm, "Are you here to lecture me on morality? Just get to the point. I just came back from the market, and I'm already tired of hearing nonsense."

Clearly, this only irritated one of the investigators. The third one didn't bother to stand and knew better than to try to intimidate Guan Xing. The chubby man took a deep breath, adjusting his posture, and began speaking as if giving a major speech: "Doctor Guan, I am Liang, the head of this investigation team. Regarding the double organ surgery you performed, we found serious violations. First, you're not registered with the Chinese Medical Association and have not shown your academic credentials or work experience. Second, you are not even a doctor at the Third Hospital, yet you performed surgery in the first-class operating room. There must be an improper transaction. Please explain yourself…"

Guan Xing felt a wave of frustration. These guys had no idea what they were talking about. They didn't even understand medicine, just politics.

"If you're looking for a medical expert or guest lecturer, I might consider a conversation. But if it's just political figures like you, then I'm afraid I'm not interested," Guan Xing said calmly, his words cutting through the tension.

"No need to keep explaining. I'm just a small company doctor. I'm not interested in working in a hospital
