Bella's POV
The moment the sun disappeared, a chill crept through the air.
Penny stepped inside from the courtyard, her cheeks bright red from the bitter wind.
Droplets of moisture still clung to her hair as she spoke. "Tonight's going to bring rain. Want me to get the charcoal burning? You'll need the warmth."
Ever since I'd returned, the cold cut through me like a blade. Rainy nights made my knees throb with that familiar, dull ache.
This lingering injury wasn't going anywhere fast.
I pressed my hand against my sore knees and gave her a small nod. "Light it up. And take some to Grandmother too - her health's been fragile lately."
Penny bobbed her head and disappeared through the curtain.
She rushed back moments later, carrying a wooden food container.
Her face lit up with a smile. "Lady Ursula was thinking of you. She had me bring over some calming soup."
Once I woke up in the dead of night, sleep became impossible to reclaim.
