Chapter 4 - chapter 4

The officer stared at her for a while then said "tomorrow you're free to go , but your son I won't be able to guarantee anything ". For the first time the officer showed an emotion on his face . He looked sympathetic while she was sobbing , but in her case , it was all he could do.

Silas was given a separate room, it wasn't so spacious, it was decent enough to have a bed and a table , with a bathroom attached to the room.

Silas spent the whole day sitting on a corner, staring at an empty space. He skipped his breakfast. When the clock hit one, a female officer entered the room with a tray with a bowl of porridge on it.

She looked at the untouched food,"do you not like the food", she asked softly while placing the tray on the table.

Silas breaking his silence, asked "where's mother". "You can meet your mother after a while"she said, "if you eat your food that is.." she smiled trying to coax him into eating.

"I'm not a kid to fall for this silly trick. I am 13 " he replied back at her. "Hey!! at least I'm trying" she said in a playful tone. A smile crept in Silas's face , it wasn't the brightest smile, but nevertheless it was genuine.

The officer looked pleased at herself, for making him smile. Just as the officer was about to introduce herself another officer called her out. "Then ,bye for now, if we meet again,I'll tell you my name so keep waiting, I'll come back".

Silas watched as the officer disappeared from his sight. The room once again returned to its original silence, but Silas's mood had improved thanks to the officer.

He pecked his food for a while , and then dozed off into the dream land.

The next morning , immediately as he woke up, 2 officer's escorted him out . Silas could feel the air between them had somehow shifted, the officer's were wary of him. His thoughts started running wild again. The officer's escorted Silas into a room and left him alone inside.

He wasn't cuffed, but he felt that being cuffed would be better than this. All his senses were screaming 'danger' at him.

The room was neat and organised, probably belongs to an officer with high position he thought.

The door was slammed open. A lady in her mid fourties' entered " you may sit" the lady pointed towards the chair

She took her own seat then looked back at Silas . " Your mother confessed everything" the lady told without changing the smile from her face.

Silas felt betrayed though he knew his mother had no other choice than this.

"The government considers you a liability"her words held no sympathy.

'Liability' that word sunk into him.

"You'd be transferred to one of our institutes."

"And??" He questioned her.

"We study your ability. Help you refine it. In return, you'll serve."

'Serve. huh?' Silas thought to himself.

Her eyes gleamed. "Teleportation like yours is rare. Valuable."

That word settled in his chest like rot.

When the officers moved, Silas understood too late. Hands slammed him against the table. Cold panic surged as a syringe was prepared.

He stopped struggling.

Something inside him went very still.

He looked up at her, and for the first time, she hesitated.

The air vanished.

A red circle bloomed into existence—clean, precise. Controlled.

She didn't even have the time to scream

SNAP...

Her head rolled across the ground and came to a stop at his feet.

Unlike before, Silas felt nothing—no guilt, no horror. Just silence. His mind refused to reach for meaning, and for the first time, he didn't force it to.

He was slipping into madness, he knew that much. But he didn't resist. There was something liberating about it, as if every emotion he had buried had finally hollowed him out instead of crushing him.

A strange sensation bloomed in his chest. Not relief. Not excitement. Just emptiness. He felt detached from his body, like he was watching someone else breathe, someone else stand there surrounded by blood. He waited for a reaction, but he didn't get it from his body.

The officers stared, wide-eyed and frozen. When they finally raised their weapons and fired, it was already too late.

They met the same fate as the woman.

Her head rolled on the ground. Unlike before Silas didn't feel anything, he didn't feel guilty. He was numb this time, he didn't think of anything else. He was slowly losing himself to madness , but he didn't hate it, he felt liberated. All the emotions he suppressed till now turned him into this.

An hour later ..

A group of officers came the central station to find out why the station hadn't replied to any of their requests . The officer's entered the building, what they saw inside was gut wrenching. All the officers in the building were butchered . Their faces were unrecognisable. There were gunshots but none probably reached the murderer .

News spread quickly announcing Silas as an national level threat, who took out an entire police station. The fact that Silas was 13 scared the public even more .
