Chapter 34 - Buying the Battlefield

[Sector 4 - Abandoned Warehouse (Ruins)]

Dust settled over the wreckage. The warehouse was half-destroyed. Shipping containers were crushed like soda cans, and there was a massive crater in the floor where Alex had landed.

Sirens wailed in the distance. The police were coming.

"Master," Luna wiped the dust off her tactical gear. "The authorities are inbound. We should evacuate. The damage here... is difficult to explain."

Alex looked at the hole in the wall where Vincent had been smashed through.

"Why leave?" Alex asked calmly. "I like this location."

"Sir?"

"It's secluded. It has deep water access at the docks. And it's already demolished, so I save money on demolition costs."

Alex pulled out his phone. He didn't call a lawyer. He called the City Land Registry Office.

"This is Alex," he said. "Sector 4, Lot 88. Who owns it?"

"Uh, one moment, Mr. Alex," the clerk stammered. "That belongs to the 'Red Star Logistics' company. It's currently in bankruptcy liquidation."

"I'll buy it," Alex said. "And the ten lots surrounding it. I want the entire district."

"The... the entire Industrial District, sir? That would cost roughly $2 Billion."

"Done," Alex said. "Transfer the deed electronically. Now."

[DING!] [Expenditure: $2,000,000,000.] [Asset Acquired: Sector 4 Industrial Zone (200 Acres).] [Reward: +20,000 Tycoon Points.]

The sirens got louder. Ten police cruisers screeched to a halt outside. Officers swarmed out, guns drawn.

"Freeze! Hands in the air!" The Sergeant screamed. "We had reports of an explosion!"

Alex walked out of the smoke, brushing dirt off his shredded suit.

"Officer," Alex smiled. "You're trespassing."

"What? Who are you?" The Sergeant blinked.

"I am the owner," Alex held up his phone, showing the digital deed timestamped 30 seconds ago. "I decided to demolish my old warehouse to build a new headquarters. Is there a law against renovating my own property?"

The Sergeant looked at the crater. That wasn't a renovation; it was a war zone. But he recognized Alex. The man who donated $10 Billion to the city yesterday.

"Mr... Mr. Alex?" The Sergeant lowered his gun. "Apologies! We didn't know! We thought it was a terrorist attack."

"Just a renovation," Alex waved his hand. " actually, while you are here... I need security for my construction site."

Alex tossed a stack of cash to the Sergeant.

"Keep the perimeter secure. No one enters unless I say so."

The Sergeant saluted. "Yes, Sir!"

Alex turned to Luna.

"Contact the best architects in the world," Alex ordered. "I don't want a warehouse anymore. I want a Fortress. If Vincent ever comes back, I want automatic turrets waiting for him."
