Chapter 13 - Chapter 1.9

Following the midterms, school settled for a bit, except for Mr Estrada announcing something to the class, it was June 20th.

"Alright class, now midterms are completed, the student council are expecting all first year classes to nominate their representatives, 1 from all 10 classes." This was quite a logical approach actually,

allowing us to get to know our peers and their abilities before coming to a final decision on who would represent us was rather prudent. "This will be conducted as a class-wide vote, you are to vote for only one

student and whoever claims the plurality of the vote will be declared as the Class Representative"

Mr Estrada handed out slips of paper to him, where we were supposed to fill in the name of a classmate. I scanned the room, thinking of who to vote for. Hmm. Randan? No. Oliver? Maybe, he's not a bad option. That's

when my eyes locked with Egawa, I mean she's top of the class, beat me personally, and seemed to have great managerial or organisational capabilities. Don't know why she was looking my way though.

Regardless, I wrote her name down, and handed it back to Mr Estrada.

He took a small time counting the votes, before announcing the winner.

"I've collated votes and the results are as follows. Third place is Daniel Barrington with 4 votes." What the- How? "Second place is Randan Mercutio with 5 votes" Makes sense. "First place is Sakurako Egawa with

9 votes, congratulations" Hell yeah my vote mattered. That was a quick and easy process, Egawa was now the Class Representative, and I had somehow gotten four votes, much to my chagrin.

I sunk into my chair, just thankful I hadn't won, when something got rather close to my ear.

"I voted for you by the way~"

"AGH!"

I jumped back on instinct, leaping half out of my seat. When I noticed some eyes on me, I swiftly composed myself and looked over to the culprit, making fierce eye contact with her right for what seemed like a while.

"Now why'd you go and do that to me hmm?"

"I thought it would be funny"

Egawa had a sly grin plastered on her face for around a minute after she first did it, it had faded by now though when we began to speak.

"Funny huh..?"

"Turns out you have quite the sensitive ears"

"What are you on about?!?!" She isn't wrong but I feel it imperative I hide this fact.

"You can't hide that from me now, too late"

"Well, whatever.. Why on earth would you vote for me?"

"I thought it could motivate you, but I guess I'm just better than you"

"Maybe you're right there"

We continued to lock eyes like this, as we spoke at each other's throats, our faces less than 5 inches away from one another. An

unwelcome visitor arrived at my seat as we did this.

"Oh boy I sure hope I'm not interrupting anything interesting here"

Randan had come up to us spouting his bullshit, I love the guy but I ain't having this.

"Heya there old buddy old pal" I responded to Randan without breaking eye contact with Egawa. I then reached over my left hand to my desk, grabbing a pen. With said pen, I drove it into Randan's right thigh, not enough to break skin or anything, but enough to hurt a decent bit.

"YEOWCH!" How come he released a comical yelp, was that on purpose?

Randan recuperated pretty quickly and as Egawa departed, he asked me out to come with the group to an arcade or something, then I assumed we'd go for dinner after that.

"Yo holly how's it hanging my guy?" Holly was the only girl in this group, but we mostly referred to her in this way.

"Fine, school's absolute ass but how are you?"

"Same old same old" My ankle hurt like hell from the Football club game we played against some random highschool on Monday, I had gotten three assists, all for Randan in a 5-1 win. So right now I was kinda limping everywhere.

Me and Holly spoke for a bit while we walked with the rest of the six, now seven as Mieke had been invited. We ended up spending a couple hours playing around in the arcade, Santhush lost the group competition completely, and thus was forced to pay for everybody's drinks at the least when we had dinner a bit later.

Disembarking the train, I arrived at my home, looking around, immediately feeling drained. I flopped onto my bed and lay there for a while, contemplating before I fell asleep.
