Haruki smiled. "But still, I don't think this is going to work, Mom. Since the first practice is already ruined."
"We can practice it outside, you know."
Haruki shook his head. "You really insist on continuing this lesson, huh?"
"Of course! We both already agreed on this."
Haruki exhaled. "Fine... but we should change the strategy, Mom."
"Hmm... I don't think we should change anything, Haruki."
"How about this, Mom. Every time we go on a 'date,' I treat you like a real girlfriend? We don't practice with the 'waiting for a date' part at home. We just casually walk out together from the house as mother and son, and start 'dating' when we arrive at the destination, like a real couple would."
"You mean skip the whole 'pretending to be strangers at home' part and just focus on the actual dating practice when we're out?"
"Yeah... something like that." Haruki said.
Kyouko put one finger on her lips, thinking. "That's actually not a bad idea. That way, we avoid awkward situations like today with Mrs. Kashikawa, and we can just start directly on the real date practice. No more standing outside the house looking suspicious."
Haruki nodded. "And we can still use LINE for planning and flirting, but when we leave the house, we're just mother and son going out together. Then, when we arrive at our destination, we switch to real dating."
"Mm... I think that's a good idea." Kyouko leaned back on the seat, glancing at the passing scenery.
"Yeah." Haruki smiled and kept driving.
More like i just want us to go on date without worry about anything.
His eyes glanced at her occasionally.
How beautiful she was every day, especially today.
Haruki smiled.
I really want to take her on a date. Doesn't matter if it's roleplay or not. I still want to see her smile.
Don't worry, Mom. I'll make you happy this summer.
And she better remember about the "Anything" she promised.
"Haruki?"
"Yes, Mom?"
"Mou! You call me Kyouko!"
Haruki chuckled. "Mom... we're still in the car. I'll call you by your name when we arrive at the park or when we go on our real date."
"You better remember it!"
"I know, Mom. Don't worry."
"I'm going to be fully immersed in this role, you know. I'll act exactly like how real couples do on dates."
Haruki's smile softened. "I'm looking forward to it, Mom."
Kyouko nodded and smile. "I'll make sure you learn everything you need to know about dating properly."
Once they arrived at the park, Haruki parked the car and looked at Kyouko.
"So, Mom... where do you think we should go after this?"
"Mou! You already forgot? You should call me what?" Kyouko playfully side-glared at him.
"Alright, alright... sheesh. It feels weird calling you by your name." Haruki exhaled.
"Just try it. Pretend I'm the girl you're taking out on a first date." Kyouko smiled and glanced up at him.
Haruki looked into her eyes and sighed. "Kyouko-san..."
"Mm... that's better. But I'd prefer if you just called me by my name without the honorific." Kyouko smiled.
"Seriously, Mom? That's not how other people address girls they've just met. It should be the surname first, since 'we' barely know each other, right?"
"Hush, Haruki. Just do it. Besides, this way you can practice for when you really go on a date with a girl. And if a girl is truly interested in a man, especially a handsome man like you, she'll feel a special thrill when he calls her by her given name. It means he sees her as someone special, not just a casual acquaintance."
Haruki raised an eyebrow. "You seem to know a lot about this, Mom."
"Of course. I'm a woman, so I know~ Most girls feel particularly excited when a handsome man like you calls them by their given name. It's a clear signal that he sees her as someone special, someone he wants to be closer to. It makes her feel seen and desired, not just like another classmate or colleague."
Kyouko smiled and looked up at Haruki's face. "Now, call me by my given name."
"Fine..." Haruki exhaled and smiled, looking at her beautiful face. "Kyouko..."
Kyouko's smile widened, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. "See? That wasn't so hard, was it?"
"Yeah, yeah... You better remember your promise."
"Mm... I will. Now, be a real gentleman and open the door for this beautiful young lady~" Kyouko struck a graceful, slightly playful pose, one hand resting on her hip as she tilted her head with a coy smile.
Haruki exhaled softly, got out of the car, and moved toward the passenger door to open it.
Kyouko slowly got out and adjusted her hair gracefully.
"Alright, let's go." Haruki said casually while starting to walk.
Kyouko reached for his arm and held him, glancing up at him. "That's not the way to talk to a lady, especially on a first date, Haruki."
"What now... Mom..." Haruki said in a low voice.
"Call me Kyouko." she hissed.
"Fine... yes, Kyouko?" Haruki looked into her eyes with a charming smile.
Kyouko averted her eyes, a faint blush on her cheeks. "You should properly talk to a girl on a first date. You should say something like, 'Shall we go, Kyouko?' or 'Are you ready, Kyouko?' with a gentle tone. Not just 'alright, let's go' like you're talking to your buddy Kajima."
She looked back up at him, her expression softening. "And you should offer your arm properly, not just walk ahead. A girl wants to feel cherished and special on a first date. She wants to feel like you're excited to be with her, not just going through the motions."
Haruki chuckled. "There's no way on a first date a girl would suddenly want to hold hands or take my arm. Be realistic, Mom~" Haruki grinned, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Most girls would think that's too forward or creepy."
"Haruki!! I already said call me Kyouko!!" she hissed in a low whisper and pinched Haruki's side.
"Ow ow ow! Kyouko! That's ticklish!" Haruki let out a soft laugh and smiled.
"I'm the one teaching here. You should have just listened. Besides, you have a handsome face. Any girl would be willing to take your arm and put her hand there."
"Seriously?" Haruki tilted his head and narrowed his eyes, looking at Kyouko.
"Of course! I'm a girl, so I know."
"So... something like this?" He offered his arm properly, bending it at the elbow.
"Yes." Kyouko's smile widened as she took his arm, her hand resting gently in the crook of his elbow. "Much better~ Now you're learning."
