Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: An angel in Gold

The sound of running water filled the air as she stood beneath the hot water. The tiredness from the day's activity was silently getting washed away.

She smiled, enjoying the warm caress of the water on her skin. Freya was tempted to extend her shower but she couldn't. She had an appointment that she felt really excited about.

As she stepped out of the washroom, her mind was filled with ideas of what outfit to wear. Like most women, she enjoyed dressing up and smelling good.

If there was one thing she never slacked off on, it was her scent and the cleanliness of her body. She treated her body like a temple to be worshipped.

Perhaps it was a bit contradictory to the fact that she despised her beauty sometimes. Regardless, it didnt stop her from taking care of it. Besides, she had only one chance at life. Once lost, she could never get it back.

A few minutes later, she walked out in a black wrap dress that hid the adjustable tactical thigh holster she always carried around. It was a habit she adopted at a young age due to some circumstances.

She paired it with golden strappy sandals and long golden ear hoops. Before walking out she grabbed a golden leather jacket and a handbag. She gazed into the wall mirror just before stepping out of her door.

A sly satisfactory smile spread over her features. She loved what she saw. An hour later, Freya sat in her car waiting for her best friend to show up.

She was already parked in the parking lot of the biggest exclusive club in Vasca City. Fortunately, she already had a VVIP access card thanks to her best friend.

The parking lot was secure but she chose to stay in her car. The last thing she wanted was to start her evening dealing with harassers. Her tinted windows kept her hidden from view.

Since she arrived early, she was able to secure a good parking slot that was hidden in the dark. She got absorbed in her work as she waited for her friend to show up.

A few minutes later, a call came through her earpiece. She received the call and soon put away her work tablet before stepping out of her car.

A cool breeze welcomed her, making her shiver a little. Her long hair swayed in the wind. Unbeknownst to her, a man stood in the dark watching the figure stepping out of the car.

The second she turned her head, his heart skipped a beat. He stopped breathing for a

second. He watched the woman walk away, every step she took like a drumstick on his heart.

He could neither place his feelings nor decipher them. Yet, he felt drawn to the insanely gorgeous woman whose every step took her away from him.

Something in him came alive. Despite the urgency to chase after her, his self-control won the battle of wills. He stayed rooted in place letting her walk away.

He was a believer in fate. He believed in destiny as much as he believed in soul mates. Although he couldn't claim her to be any of those at the moment, he let her go. If he meets her again, then, he would take action.

Freya met up with Shay who enveloped her in a tight embrace. The two girls giggled like teenagers as they complimented each other's outfits. Shay led the way into the nightclub, excited to show Freya around.

It has been years since her friend went out to a club. The last time they had gone to one, was a memory she wished she could erase. Alas, it wasnt easy to forget.

Unlike a normal club, this particular one catered to the needs of its clients in every way. It was, although, a legalized enterprise, operated by underground syndicates.

Freya took a deep breath before her feet stepped into the building. They had easily walked in using their pass. The ground floor of the club operated normally, open to middle-class people.

It was a little paradise on its own. Every client who had access to the club had been previously scanned by the owners before entry was allowed. Each guest had the chance to bring along three people whom he/she would be responsible for.

The rules were clearly defined for all. Freya took in the details as she walked beside Shay. She could feel the lecherous gaze on her but chose to ignore it. Tonight, she was determined to enjoy herself and nothing could ruin that for her.

She deserved to be happy and live a normal life like everyone else. She didnt have to let the world dictate how she lives or let the world's judgment of her ruin her peace.

The bustling club came to a standstill the second they walked inside. Every gaze fell upon the two gorgeous women, who walked around without a care in the world.

After the first look, most gazes strayed back to the lady in gold. Her steps were confident which increased her allure tenfold. Despite the smile that adorned her red lips, her gaze was cold and sharp.

Shay watched her friend, a helpless smile hanging on her lips. She couldn't help it. While most people would feel insecure around Freya, Shay pitied her friend.

She didnt care much for the attention that men lavished on women, except perhaps when the attention was from 'him'. As for the rest, they had nothing to do with her.

She grew up secure in her skin and was confident about her looks. Shay had inherited her parents' good genes as well. She was gorgeous and she knew.

It was only that Freya's aura was something else. The way her friend carried herself added to her appeal making it hard for most women to shine beside her.

Shay was different. While Freya was a smiling ice queen, she was the flamboyant type. Their characters complemented each other well, making their presence a deadly combination.

She pulled her friend towards the executive elevator after exploring the ground floor. She didnt miss the disdain in Freya's gaze upon the lustful glances thrown their way.

Not willing to ruin the night, Shay simply smiled as she locked her arm around Freya. Fortunately, the elevator was empty. She watched Freya's icy gaze melt into a soft hue of warmth as she finally looked back at her.

The two friends were of similar height. They were considered tall for women. Their height added to their well-proportioned bodies. While Freya wore a black dress, Shay was in a red mini dress. Her neck was adorned with a signature silver piece that went well with her bracelets. Her look was finished off by a pair of red heels and a small silver clutch bag.

"You look ravishing baby girl. Do you have something planned for us? I can tell you came prepared to conquer. Will he be present tonight?"

A soft blush adorned Shay's face. She looked away, momentarily hiding her face behind her slightly curly ginger hair. A handsome face was displayed in her head at the thought of the man of her dreams.b

She had been in love with him for years now but never tried to approach him. Perhaps, she was afraid of the outcome once her feelings were in the open. Knowing everything she did about him, she was also afraid to scare him away.

Freya placed a finger on Shay's chin lifting it. "Don't be shy, Shay. It's not a crime to love. Truthfully, I envy it. You know, how you love so purely and are generous with your heart. I don't know if I am capable of that."

Shay looked up at her best friend. She opened her mouth ready to speak only to close it when the elevator opened. They have arrived at their destination.

She gave Freya a sweet smile and took her hand once again. There were a total of four rooms on this floor. It was the second-to-last floor of the building. The uppermost floor housed three penthouses with a rooftop right above it.

She led Freya to the room at the very end. Using her card, she swiped it to be granted access. She unlocked the door and walked in still beaming sweetly.

Her steps faltered when they walked inside and heard voices. The smile on her face was wiped off replaced by a frown. She walked further inside but soon came to a sudden halt.

Shay felt Freya's body freeze beside her before her own did the same. Five pairs of eyes stared at them, each of their faces contorted in a frown. They had walked into a meeting without knowing.

Juan's frown melted away when his gaze fell on the angel in gold. There she was, the woman who had tormented him in his sleep and accommodated his mind. His initial anger at being interrupted washed away.

All the pent-up anger and irritation he had carried inside for a week suddenly vanished. He had found his salvation. He wasnt the only one affected though. Someone else at his table felt the breath getting knocked out of his lungs.

There she was. The woman who managed to thaw his cold heart. The same woman he had let go of a few minutes ago hoping that their paths would cross again. She had walked right back to him. If this wasn't fate, what could it be?
