A century ago, a disaster had struck well now you can find people who call this disaster as a blessing by God himself and much less of disaster which has chained the entirety of humanity with the "Sin mark".
It always scares me about how quickly humans adapted to this and to this extent that this ability is used on a daily basis so often.
"Kairo, Earth to Kairo?"
"Oh sorry, yes?", I looked up and it was my best friend, Novan.
Novan is in the same class as me and we've known each other past 10 years. Soon after he had turned 16, he was given his Sin mark of Greed. Sin of Greed is perhaps the worst and the best in different perspectives; it allows the user to materialize anything in their imagination at the cost of reducing their lifespan
"What were you thinking about?" asked Novan.
"Nah, nothing much to be bothered about, you were calling me?"
"Oh right, we got notified that our next place is Japan, your home country." He replied with such enthusiasm it left me astonished.
Every month that passes by all of us move to a different country every month. Who made this system? I don't know the details, but it was decided by the UN according to media. Now children all over the world are assigned a class they'll be with for every 4 years from the age of 10. We are currently in Munich, Germany.
"Is that so? I hadn't used my phone all day today, so I didn't know. Anyways that's nice I'll meet my parents I guess when we reach there after 2 whole years."
"Yup exactly! can't wait to meet your parents." He replied.
"Huh? what? you are coming with me to meet my parents?"
"Of course! and it's not just me; Sylvie, is also coming. Isn't that right Sylvie?" he looks at Sylvie and grins.
Sylvie's from France, we met her in this 4-year term basically, last year. There were few incidents which happened between me and her and somehow it came to the conclusion in public's eye that me and her like each other. She got her Sin mark when she was 14. She was given the Sin of Wrath. Sin of Wrath allows user to surpass human strength but are always under the threat of going berserk.
By now you must've understood every mark has its own set of uses and limitations
"Huh? what? I am also coming with both of you to meet Kairo's parent?" Sylvie asked.
"How do both of you give the same reaction, anyways you will right?" Novan sighs and asks.
"Uhm, as long as Kairo is okay with it I guess?" Sylvie replies and looks into my eyes.
"Novan! don't go deciding on your own— It's my family not yours to decide you know and yes Sylvie its fine if you also join us"
"Yes, yes okay I understood." Novan replied and bit his tongue.
Wow, I just agreed to bring my best friend and my crush to my home. Well, the transfer is like after a week. So, I'll worry about that later.
"What's the commotion?" Kyros asks with 2 more people on his side.
Kyros is a third-rate bully whom I just ignore nowadays. He was given the Sin of Envy. It can copy any Sins' ability to a certain extent but not 100%, it's setback would be the user forgetting memories as well as loss of personality. Anyhow... how did such a peaceful country give birth to a bully like him.
"Why do you care?" Novan asks.
"Novan don't get involved, just ignore."
"Kairo... look, you don't look cool with this "ignore" line, you know?" Kyros replied and grabbed my collar.
"You do realize he beat you in the quiz, didn't he? and you had even used Envy (Sloth)'s ability that time." Arion comes from the back and replies with Elira by his side. Sin of Sloth gives the user the ability of superhuman intelligence, but the setback is they remain listless, without moving for an inch thrice the time of time used Sloth's ability.
(When Envy uses any ability, it doesn't give the user the setback of the ability rather gives only its own loss of personality and memories limitation)
Arion is part of the Student Council. He has an amazing personality and always helps us out. He's from Greece and we've heard that the day he turned 13, he was given his Sin mark. He was given Wrath. Even though he was given Wrath he is the opposite of Sylvie, calm and composed.
"Tch. Never mind, let's go." Kyros replies and walks away.
"Thanks Arion, I owe you one." I say with a smile.
"No problem, it's my role as a member of student council anyways." Arios replies
"Oh, then how about we invite Arion and Elira too? Will both of you come to Kairo's house and meet his parents?" Novan asks.
"NOVAN! I JUST SAID... you know what I quit. So, will you both also be joining us?"
"I would really love to but I and Elira have some work with the council for the first few days so we cannot. Really sorry." Arion replies
"Oh no no, it's alright I understand."
"Well, we both should get going." Arion says and then Elira whispers to him about something.
"How could did I forget the reason I came for. Kairo, you've been summoned by the council president and principal." Arion looks towards me and speaks.
"Huh me?"
We start hearing whispers exchanging about me still being unmarked.
"Yes, hurry up." He speaks
"Well then, Novan and Sylv, I'll talk to you guys later."
Both of them exchanged worried looks
"Don't worry nothing's going to happen."
They say agree to my earlier statement but are still in sense of doubt.
I mean I can't deny that they are worried since not many get summoned like this out of nowhere especially by the principal who is also the one of the heads of UNESCO.
In the hallway, Arion looks at me getting somewhat nervous and puts his hand over my shoulder.
"I too don't know what it's about, but I'll be there in the meeting as standby so don't worry I am there for you!" He tries to cheer me up.
I am more of the logical guy, emotions really don't persuade me as much as they do for a normal person so I can't really state if that helped or not but I do appreciate the effort.
"Thanks!"
We continued walking in silence as students whom we pass by talk about us and start talking absolute nonsense.
I absolutely hate them. It's always due to these kinds of people, students who have never even done anything wrong, fall into societal criticism and problems.
We reach to the door of principal's office. I gulped and all 3 of us entered. Little did I know that this meeting would affect my life in many ways.
