Cherreads

Chapter 13 - End Of Dawn

The battlefield no longer resembled a place where life had once existed.

Ruins burned endlessly, pillars of flame clawing toward a sky torn apart as if the heavens themselves had been wounded. Clouds spiraled unnaturally, fractured by streaks of lightning that followed no law of nature. Ash drifted through the air like black snow, settling on shattered stone and broken weapons—silent witnesses to a war that had surpassed humanity's limits.

The wind screamed.

Not howling.

Not whistling.

Screaming—as though the world itself was begging for release.

At the center of this devastation stood three figures.

Barely.

Tomioka Zeki's breath came in ragged gasps. Blood ran down his arm, dripping onto the cracked ground below, evaporating instantly from the lingering heat. His katana trembled in his grasp—not from fear, but from exhaustion so deep it threatened to tear his soul apart.

Across from him stood Diablo.

The demon lord's form was warped, scorched, cracked open in places where flesh should not have survived. Shadows leaked from his wounds like living things, writhing and reforming, desperately trying to hold him together.

And between them—

Suzune Zen.

Her body was battered, clothes torn, dark ki bleeding uncontrollably into the storm around her. Lightning clung to her like chains of judgment, responding to her presence alone.

Tomioka exhaled sharply, forcing his shaking legs to hold.

"Let's…" he muttered, his voice breaking under the weight of everything lost.

"…put an end to this."

He raised his blade.

The air bent.

The light dimmed.

Even the shadows hesitated.

---

Samurai's Forbidden Eighteenth Stage — Moon Shadow

Reality split.

Tomioka's body blurred—no, duplicated—as light and shadow fused into a single impossible existence. One moment he stood beneath the lightning; the next, he was nowhere and everywhere at once.

Moon Shadow was not speed.

It was existence in contradiction.

The samurai existed simultaneously in light and darkness. Attacks came from angles that should not exist. Reflections struck before bodies moved. Enemies could not tell which form was real—

Because both were.

Suzune felt it immediately.

Her instincts screamed.

She stepped forward, dark ki surging violently as thunder answered her call.

"Dark ki—Storm Style!"

The sky exploded.

Lightning crashed downward in pillars, wrapped in black energy so dense it bent space itself. Wind tore through the battlefield like blades, lifting shattered ruins into the air.

Diablo's eyes widened.

"Dark ki… huh?" he snarled.

"…Shadow wavers!"

He countered with overwhelming force—shadow magic colliding directly against lightning, fire igniting from the friction of their clash.

---

A Colossal Collision

Fire.

Lightning.

Shadow.

Storm.

They collided.

The explosion shattered the ground for miles, pulverizing stone into dust, splitting the earth open like a wound that would never heal. Shockwaves tore through the horizon, leveling what little remained of the battlefield.

The sky screamed.

A soundless scream—felt rather than heard—as reality itself rejected what it was witnessing.

When the dust finally settled—

All three figures still stood.

Barely.

Suzune swayed.

Her storm faded.

Her knees buckled.

And then—

She collapsed.

"…Suzune?"

Tomioka turned just in time to see her fall lifelessly onto the cracked ground.

"No…"

His voice cracked.

"SUZZZUUUUNNNEEEE!!"

Silence answered him.

Diablo coughed, dark blood spilling from his mouth as his body continued tearing itself apart from the strain of the clash.

"…Dammit," he laughed weakly.

"I acknowledge you, human."

He lifted his gaze, eyes burning with reluctant respect.

"You are… far too strong. To think you can even use forbidden stages—this means you are one of the strongest warriors to ever exist."

Tomioka dropped to one knee.

"Tch…"

His grip on the blade tightened, knuckles white.

Diablo turned away.

Toward Zenin Palace.

---

Samurai's Nineteenth Stage — Chronos

"No."

Tomioka rose again.

Time shattered.

Chronos was not an attack.

It was judgment.

The blade cut through a chosen moment in time—not flesh, not shadow, but causality itself.

Diablo staggered as reality rewrote itself.

The moment where Suzune died.

The moment where Diablo nearly claimed victory.

Severed.

Diablo roared, clutching his chest as blood poured freely.

"You… you used the nineteenth stage…" he hissed.

"…to save her, didn't you?"

He laughed, even as pain twisted his face.

"You know the cost. Forbidden stages—eighteen, nineteen, twenty—each one can take your life."

His eyes widened.

"But you used two."

And lived.

"…Unbelievable."

Darkness surged violently.

"Let's see if you can use the last one."

The sky turned black.

"Only one man ever wielded the final stage before."

Diablo raised his hands.

"Zenin Zen. The Second Zenin."

Shadow swallowed the horizon.

"Infinite Shadow Meteorite Attack."

The world screamed.

Meteorites of condensed shadow tore through the sky—thousands, millions—falling not just here, but across the world itself.

---

Last Stand

"Suzune!!" Tomioka shouted.

"Take care of Diablo! I'll stop this!!"

Suzune's eyes snapped open.

Blood Awakening ignited.

---

Zen Clan First Stage — Blood Awakening

Her aura exploded outward.

Instinct overtook reason.

Her presence alone crushed the battlefield, pressing down on Diablo with invisible weight. Her body moved faster than thought, blade and flesh responding without hesitation.

Diablo reeled.

"What?! She can even use Zen stages?!"

Suzune attacked relentlessly.

And behind them—

Tomioka was changing.

Orange light engulfed him.

His aura crushed everything.

Suzune trembled.

Diablo trembled.

---

Samurai's Final Stage — Aether

The blade moved.

Not through matter.

Not through energy.

But through concepts.

Attacks ceased to exist as Tomioka severed the idea of them. Power itself unraveled beneath his swing.

The cost was absolute.

His powers vanished.

Suzune collapsed unconscious.

Diablo froze in terror.

"…The last stage…?"

His voice shook.

"You're… stronger than Zenin Zen."

His knees buckled.

"No—stronger than any human in history."

Tomioka couldn't move.

Diablo turned away.

"It's over. No one can stop me now."

---

Khronos Awakens

A strange force activated.

The Khronos Stone glowed.

Diablo's body distorted.

---

FLASHBACK

A forest.

Rein stood frozen as a hooded man extended the stone.

"Take it."

"This… this is Khronos!" Rein shouted.

"How do you have this?! Who are you?!"

The man turned.

"…Zen."

Rein's breath caught.

Zen smiled faintly, his gaze shifting past Rein—

Toward Ash.

"…Is that how I used to look?"

---

Back in the present—

Tomioka understood.

Diablo could not be killed.

Only sealed.

And only one vessel could endure it.

A Zen.

His son.

Not Star—too fragile.

Not Astra—too far away, entrusted to another fate.

Only Ash remained.

---

Sealing

"What do you think you're doing?" Diablo demanded.

"Sealing you."

"…Inside your own son?"

"…Yes."

Diablo laughed.

"Shadow forbidden magic — shadow curse 'Seal.'"

"I'll give him endless pain."

"I'll erase his memories."

"And you'll be scattered among demons."

Diablo was dragged screaming into Ash.

"D–Dad…!"

---

End of Dawn

Suzune held Ash.

Tomioka held them both.

Somewhere far away—beyond the battlefield, beyond the flames—

Another child lived.

Unaware.

Spared.

They faded.

Smiling.

---

Final Panel

Ash lay unconscious.

A dark mark spread across his body.
