Chapter 4 - 4 High Valyrian

However, Gavin knew that the Tyrells did not ultimately win the war. They merely remained in their camp outside Storm's End for over a year until Robert Baratheon defeated Rhaegar Targaryen and ascended the Iron Throne, at which point the war finally ended.

King Aerys Targaryen, whom the Reach had served, was murdered by his Kingsguard. His former enemy had become the new king, and the Tyrells had besieged his castle for a whole year, forcing his brother to eat rats. It seems the Tyrells will now have to work tirelessly to mend relations with the Iron Throne. Based on the timeline, the war is likely nearing its end.

Soon, Raman came out quickly with a small can of goat milk. He first affectionately pinched Gavin's cheek, then handed him the goat milk, and then squatted down and kissed his pink little face with tenderness.

Although Gavin felt embarrassed, he could only pretend to be a child and silently accept the gifts in order not to give himself away. After all, the other party had not only given him money but also extra food. Moreover, according to Gavin, the forty-year-old proprietress of La Man still did not have any children of her own, so he could understand her actions.

Walking home, Gavin's thoughts wandered as he pondered the plot of this world.

Yes, Gavin had already figured it out three years ago: the world he had come to was the American TV series "Game of Thrones" that he had watched in his previous life.

At first, he thought this was a medieval parallel world, until three years ago when the servants in the castle started talking about it.

Robert Baratheon of Storm's End, together with Eddard Stark of the North, Hoster Tully of the Riverlands, and Jon Arryn of the Vale, launched a rebellion against the Iron Throne. These familiar names and families instantly stirred up Gavin's past memories.

His adoptive uncle, Edmund Cortoine, answered the call to arms at this time and led troops to Highgarden. According to the timeline of the story, the war should be ending soon.

Knowing full well the plot's direction, Gavin was also secretly plotting his future. With his unique advantage of foresight, would he be able to successfully curry favor with a high-ranking person in the future, thus naturally shedding the stigma of being an illegitimate child and transforming into a noble lord?

Just like Bronn in the show. You know, Bronn was originally just a lowly mercenary, but he eventually became a duke.

Moreover, Gavin's own knowledge and skills far surpassed the current level of the world. He firmly believed that with these advanced and unique resources, he would be able to carve out an industry that would bring him enormous wealth.

Besides this, Gavin had an even greater interest: magic. In this world, magic undeniably existed, and given the current situation, he already possessed the potential to cast spells.

Gavin pondered to himself, if he could find a way to systematically learn, would he become more powerful in magic after the Red Comet descended? Would he be able to gain even greater power and pursue more mysterious and extraordinary things? He was filled with anticipation and longing for all of this.

Suppressing his jumbled thoughts, Gavin carefully carried the small can of goat's milk and hurried home. Inside, his mother lay weakly on the bed, coughing incessantly, as if she were coughing up her lungs and heart. Seeing Gavin return, his mother forced a smile despite her discomfort and greeted him.

Then, the mother struggled to sit up and said in a slightly hoarse voice, "We should study." She took out a book from a small box under the bed. The book's cover was worn and the paper was made of parchment.

A year ago, his mother began teaching him some strange script and language. Recently, this teaching had become more frequent and systematic. But strangely, these scripts and languages did not belong to the common language of Westeros. Gavin had also secretly guessed that it might be the language and script of Essos, after all, his mother came from there. Although he was full of curiosity, he knew that knowledge was invaluable, and mastering another language was never a bad thing, so he never went to investigate it further.

As evening fell, Gavin finished his lesson. Alice looked at her bright son, who had learned to read and write advanced Valyrian in just one year. A strange look crossed her eyes, and she unconsciously touched the pendant on her chest.

This is a unique pendant, meticulously carved from bone. It has a rounded, flattened shape, smooth to the touch yet carrying a mysterious coolness. On its surface, a hexagonal pattern is prominently raised, strange and enigmatic, as if containing some ancient and profound secret, or perhaps a symbol of some mysterious power. As Alice touched the pendant, her gaze gradually hardened, as if she had made up her mind.

Alice gently stroked Gavin's silver hair, her face full of tenderness, and asked softly, "Gavin, have you ever heard of Valyria?"

Gavin was quite surprised; why would his mother suddenly bring this up? However, recalling what he knew of the plot, he thought for a moment and replied:

"I once heard the maesters in the castle tell me that before the Cataclysm, Valyrian Freehold was extremely powerful, with 40 Dragonflight families ruling together. They had thousands of dragons and had conquered most of Essos. But after the Cataclysm, all the Dragonflight families except the Targaryens disappeared, even though the surviving Targaryens were only a minor family on the periphery of the 40 Dragonflight families. Yet their remaining power still managed to conquer Westeros."

Gavin, filled with doubt, looked at his mother's silver hair and purple eyes, and then thought of his own similar appearance. He had a guess in his mind, and tentatively asked, "Mother, why are you asking me this question?"

Alice's expression instantly turned serious, and she said to Gavin in a solemn tone:

"Gavin, actually, after the cataclysm, not only the Targaryen family survived, but also many other dragon families. However, the dragons that were out in the world died one after another for unknown reasons after the cataclysm. In the subsequent Crimson Age, several city-states rebelled, and the rioting slaves killed many dragon kings who had lost their dragons. Only the Targaryens, who were hiding on Dragonstone, survived."

Gavin stared wide-eyed at his mother in disbelief, yet eagerly awaiting her guess and the continuation of her story.
