Chapter 17 - In the Blink of an Eye — Eight Months of Training

Training quickly fell into a steady rhythm.

Running. Carrying bricks. Delivering milk. Farming. Swimming. Dodging hornets…

It was busy—but never boring.

That afternoon, Master Roshi led the three of them under a large tree.

Three hammocks were already tied up there—Roshi had clearly set them up while they were training.

He pointed at them and said, "From now on, it's nap time. Get in and sleep properly."

Goku and Krillin both climbed in.

Roshi continued, almost like reciting a creed.

"Work hard. Study hard. Play hard. Eat well. Rest well.

That is the Turtle School way."

Krillin asked, "Master… is resting so we can train better in the afternoon?"

"You can think of it that way," Roshi said. "Turtle School training is about balance.

If you throw away everything just to train, life stops being fun.

Look at me—I'm over three hundred years old and still full of energy."

Krillin nodded and immediately started flattering.

"As expected of Master! Living long is winning.

You've been collecting retirement pay for over two hundred years—nobody can beat that."

Right then, gold-haired Launch happened to pass by.

Roshi and Krillin tensed instantly the moment they saw that golden hair.

But—unexpectedly—Launch was holding a bottle of soda.

She walked straight to Goku… and shoved it into his hand.

"Hot training, huh? This is for you."

Goku blinked, caught off guard. "Thanks."

Launch clicked her tongue like she didn't care, but her voice wasn't harsh.

"Don't slack. Drink it and hurry up and rest."

Then she turned and walked away.

Krillin felt like he'd swallowed a mouthful of dog food.

He sneakily glanced at Launch's back and whispered to Roshi, "Master, did you see that? That was gold-haired Launch! And she brought Goku soda… she—she doesn't like him, does she?"

Launch heard the whisper.

Her ears turned bright red.

And then—

She whipped out a machine gun and aimed it at Krillin.

"Krillin! Shut your mouth!"

A few bullets slammed into the tree trunk. Krillin broke into a cold sweat on the spot.

Launch only warned him once… then walked off.

Roshi and Krillin both stared at Goku with strange expressions.

Goku immediately defended himself. "Why are you staring at me? I saved her.

She's thanking me. Giving me a soda is normal!"

Roshi stroked his beard like he'd just "realized" something.

"Sure… that makes sense… but I'm not stupid either."

Then, out of nowhere, Roshi leaned in.

"Goku… I'll teach you all my martial arts.

You teach me how to pick up girls, okay?"

Krillin shot his hand up. "Me too!"

Goku took a sip and said calmly, "Well… it mostly depends on your face."

Roshi and Krillin both instantly went red with rage.

Krillin yelled, "Damn it—what are you showing off for?!"

At first, Roshi trained alongside them for a few days…

then he mostly watched them train…

and eventually, they trained on their own without being told.

One day, Grandpa Gohan came to Turtle Island.

He'd gone back to Mount Paozu to visit Goku—only to find him missing—so he came to see his old master instead.

By coincidence, he saw Goku training hard.

With Goku under Roshi's care, he felt even more relieved.

But because of Goku's tail, he specifically reminded Roshi about a few things…

then left, satisfied, to go back to tending his boiler.

The training was harsh and strict, but rest time was plentiful too—so overall it didn't crush them.

And since Goku had already "agreed" with Bulma that she was basically his future girlfriend, he didn't want to completely leave her unattended.

So on rest days, he'd fly to West City to check on her.

And when an ordinary person suddenly gained strength…

they tended to swell with confidence.

Thanks to the Dragon Balls, Bulma had gained a little power.

The good news: she wasn't boy-crazy anymore.

The bad news: Bulma became the school's top delinquent queen.

In the Blink of an Eye — Eight Months Passed!

[Good Brothers Candy has expired.

Thanks to the candy sharing, Krillin's cultivation increased greatly and his self-defense ability improved.

Your battle power has additionally increased by 76. Current balanced battle power: 244.]

Under normal circumstances, Krillin's increase would've been around fifty.

With the candy's +50% boost, he grew far more—and because of the sharing effect…

Goku directly received an extra 76 battle power.

In an instant, Goku felt strength flood his body again.

Yep. Stronger.

Even if it was nothing compared to late-game monsters…

at this point, Goku's power had already surpassed Master Roshi.

He was roughly around early King Piccolo-level—more than enough to dominate the beginner zone.

And now…

The World Martial Arts Tournament was about to begin.

Training was over.

Roshi checked their results and was satisfied.

That night, Launch prepared a huge feast.

And—"by accident"—she made twenty extra servings of grilled meat.

Even Goku couldn't resist.

All three ate until they were stuffed.

The Next Morning

They were woken up early.

Roshi announced, "Alright. Today's the day.

Next, we're heading to South City to participate in the World Martial Arts Tournament!

Are you ready?"

"Ready!" x2

"Then let's go."

Just then, Launch came running out in a hurry.

"Goku! Krillin! Wait!"

All three turned.

Roshi said, "Launch, sorry to leave the house to you."

Launch nodded. "Mm. Do your best—get a good ranking."

Then she hesitated, and added, "Wait a second!"

She dashed inside.

A moment later, she came back holding two outfits, and handed them to Goku.

Krillin blinked. "These are…?"

Launch smiled. "Your training clothes are always torn up, so I made you new ones.

Try them on.

I used Goku's old clothes as measurements when I washed them—should fit perfectly."

Krillin lit up. "Wow! Thank you, Launch! You're good to Goku, and I finally get to benefit too—"

Launch's ears went red again.

And then—whoosh—

She snatched the outfit meant for Krillin.

"I just remembered. You're five centimeters shorter than Goku.

This outfit is too big for you.

I think both should go to Goku—one for the match, and the other for after he tears the first one."

Krillin took a critical hit and froze with his mouth open.

Goku quickly took the other outfit and said, "Krillin, she's just messing with you.

Look—there isn't even a hole reserved for my tail."

Krillin blinked, took the clothes, and immediately started smiling like an idiot.

"Hehe… I knew Launch wouldn't be that biased."

Hearing "tail hole," Roshi froze internally.

Damn… Gohan said that on full moon nights, he turns into a giant ape… I forgot.

Roshi glanced up at the sky.

Forget it. Cutting the tail affects balance and he'll need days to adjust—it'll impact the tournament.

And the tournament is held in daylight anyway… it should be fine.

So they quickly boarded the plane.
