Chapter 59 - Chapter 59: Urara's First Victory! Japan's Number One General, Special Week!

Mizuki closed the diary and waited for her reward.

[Log uploaded successfully!]

[Reward: Custom-made Horseshoes for all Spica members.]

[Effect: These horseshoes significantly prevent injuries, reduce wear and tear, and protect their health.]

Mizuki was pleased. Injury prevention was better than money in her eyes.

Special Week, Silence Suzuka, and Vodka all had histories of injuries. With Mizuki around, Suzuka's "fatal injury" wouldn't happen. She would give her a safe future.

She thought of how the students at Tracen cared for her— Nishino Flower tending the plants outside her room, Super Creek bringing her tea and food every once in a while, Winning Ticket giving her scratch-off cards, and Eishin Flash making German sweets.

All of these girls have treated Mizuki better than most of the people she knew in her previous world. She had to resolve their regrets.

Mizuki decided to find a time to give the Spica members their gifts— ten pairs of horseshoes each, enough to last them a long while.

After closing the diary, she decided to head out for a walk. Since tomorrow was the Welcome Party, the entire Tracen Academy had undergone a massive transformation in its decor.

Chairwoman Yayoi Akikawa's views on Tracen Academy differed from those of the traditionalists. She embraced emerging cultures— whether it was anime or tokusatsu products, her first instinct wasn't to resist, but to understand them, adopting the best elements while discarding the dross.

Chairwoman Akikawa was indeed quite wise, otherwise, she couldn't have built Tracen Academy into what it was today.

Mizuki appreciated this. In an era where many countries focused solely on exam-oriented education, it was refreshing to see a gradual acceptance of new cultures, allowing students to find joy beyond their studies.

At the same time, Mizuki knew that racecourses in China were being established. Thanks to the system, several facilities within these racecourses were named after her, so she planned to offer suggestions to ensure the girls had a happy campus environment alongside their training and studies.

Through the system, she could monitor the construction progress and project documents in real-time.

The site was finalized in Wenzhou, Zhejiang. The blueprints featured high-tech designs for various types of large-scale tracks, covering almost every race category.

The starting gates, paddock, scoring and timing equipment, and broadcasting systems were far more advanced than those of most other existing racecourses.

Of course, that doesn't apply to every racecourse being made, just the one that's being built with the System's help. The other racecourses will be a bit less advanced.

The Chinese track designs will all have their own characteristics, primarily focused on turf with dirt tracks as a secondary focus. The "Chinese Triple Crown" was also being established.

The spring races drew inspiration from the 2000 Guineas in the UK, the Satsuki Sho in Japan, and events in France and Ireland, aiming to create something with unique Chinese flair.

However, a single racecourse couldn't host everything, so after the first one was completed, new venues would be set up in Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai to boost local economies.

She reviewed the track details while heading out to see the thematic decorations currently adorning Tracen. Just as she stepped out, she saw two figures approaching: Ines Fujin and Manhattan Cafe.

The two were chatting.

"Ines Fujin-san, how should I put this... Agnes Tachyon did give you a lot of money, but I still advise you not to go to her lab. It's not a simple place. If something bad happens..."

"Something bad? Like what?" Ines Fujin asked curiously.

It turned out Agnes Tachyon had approached her to participate in an experiment, and she had agreed, clearly unaware of the potential consequences.

"There are many examples. Some people start glowing all over after an experiment. Others briefly become obsessed with black tea and hate coffee. And those are just the minor tests. Now that you've taken her money, I dread to think what will happen," Manhattan Cafe warned earnestly.

Having spent every day with Tachyon, she knew exactly how dangerous it was. Furthermore, she was looking out for Tachyon too— the Student Council had warned Tachyon multiple times about her experiments.

If another incident occurred, Tachyon might be hauled out of the academy, labcoat and all. Given Tachyon's personality of treating people like guinea pigs while expecting to be waited on hand and foot, the outcome was unimaginable.

Ines Fujin laughed and patted her chest. "Cafe-san, it's fine! Overthinking things isn't my style. Besides, it's just an experiment. I can take it." She radiated a sense of confidence, feeling incredibly brave herself.

"But... but..." Manhattan Cafe's eyes flickered. She couldn't win an argument against Ines Fujin, but she remembered all the times she had to go wake someone up after they collapsed in the lab.

"Hmm? Cafe, look! Isn't that Trainer Mizuki?" Ines Fujin spotted Mizuki and waved happily.

"It's me. Are you headed to Agnes Tachyon's? I'm just wandering around the academy, so I'll join you," Mizuki said.

She noticed Manhattan Cafe giving her a look, and remembering she had helped Machan film one of her first short videos, she understood her concern and set off with them.

"Sure, sure! No problem at all!" Ines Fujin even stood on her tiptoes to compare her height with Mizuki's. She realized she was quite tal. Sometimes during her part-time jobs, she wished she were taller so she could reach the top shelves.

She suddenly remembered something. "By the way, Trainer Mizuki, you provided me with so many part-time job leads before. I should have taken you out for a tour and a meal today, but I have to go to Tachyon's. Next time I have a chance, I'll treat you!"

"No rush," Mizuki replied. "There will be plenty of opportunities."

The three of them arrived at Agnes Tachyon's lab, where Tachyon was already twirling her hands in circles, seemingly waiting for Ines Fujin.

"My, my, two extra people? Buy one, get two free? What a bargain. I have enough rope, so a few extra guinea pigs won't hurt," Agnes Tachyon smirked upon seeing Manhattan Cafe and Mizuki.

"Did you hear that, Ines Fujin-san? Getting tied up with ropes... it's dangerous," Manhattan Cafe urged again.

"Oh? What, are you scared? If you're willing, I can pay the two of you as well," Tachyon said with an air of authority.

"No, we're not interested in the money. We just want to watch. Unless you can add... cough, I mean... even if you add money, we won't do it!" Mizuki chimed in after a glare from Cafe.

She knew Tachyon wouldn't go too far, but to save Manhattan Cafe the trouble and ensure Ines Fujin's safety, she decided to stay and watch.

"Tch, how boring," Tachyon muttered. She actually wanted to study why Ines Fujin was so energetic, balancing studies, jobs, and training. She thought she might find a way to break through a Uma Musume's limits by studying her.

Regardless, if they wanted to watch, she would just proceed with the experiment.

However, as they were talking, a striking figure appeared in the hallway. It was Air Groove on patrol. Seeing the situation, she frowned and approached.

Normally she wouldn't be here, but she had been tailing Duramente and was passing by on her way to the Student Council.

Under Air Groove's questioning, Agnes Tachyon didn't hide anything and revealed her employment contract with Ines Fujin. Air Groove was speechless and immediately persuaded Ines Fujin to drop the idea while telling Tachyon to stop making dangerous things.

She massaged her temples, feeling exhausted from worrying about the academy.

Ines Fujin nodded, and showing her professional integrity, she tried to return the money to Tachyon.

Tachyon brushed it off. "It's fine. Let's just change the terms of the deal. When you get back, write a document about your study experiences and send it to me. After I read it, you just need to answer some questions."

Ines Fujin felt that such a simple thing shouldn't cost money, but Tachyon insisted. In certain aspects, Tachyon actually had a high level of professional ethics.

After that, the group left. "Ines Fujin, don't agree to such dangerous part-time jobs anymore. If you have time off today, get some proper rest," Manhattan Cafe said.

"I just feel that earning some money to buy gifts for my sisters and mom is better, and..." Ines Fujin glanced at Mizuki, thinking about how she had helped her find jobs near Tracen. She felt she should repay the favor.

"And?" Manhattan Cafe looked at her.

"Nothing! I just meant today isn't really a day off. I went to get a certification this morning and had nothing to do afterward, which is why I ran into Tachyon," Ines Fujin smiled brightly.

"A certification? For a job?"

"Not entirely. I got a Health Manager certificate. I mainly got it so I can go home and give my mom massages. Taking care of my little sisters at home must be tiring, so I learned how to help her relax her muscles."

"Oh, Trainer Mizuki, Cafe-san! Since I just got my certificate, why don't I give you both a massage? Don't be fooled because I just learned it, I'm actually quite good!" Ines Fujin suggested, wanting to thank them for their help.

"I'll pass... let the Trainer go first," Manhattan Cafe said.

"Both of you can! Let's start with the Trainer. Trainer, find a place to sit, or let's go to the training room. It'll be better if you lie on a mat. Don't say no! Just think of it as helping me practice," Ines Fujin proposed with a grin.

Mizuki nodded. She wasn't particularly tired, but she agreed to let her practice.

She ended up being Ines Fujin's "guinea pig" in the end. What a strange coincidence.

They went to the training room, and Mizuki lay down on a yoga mat to rest.

Ines Fujin began, applying the techniques she had learned. Every spot she pressed was strictly based on her certification training. When she applied pressure to Mizuki's back, she felt a deep, aching sensation, but afterward, she felt refreshed and incredibly comfortable.

This went on for several minutes. In the middle of the massage, Mizuki almost fell asleep.

"Hehe, all done! Trainer, do you feel a bit better?" Ines Fujin smiled cutely.

"Much better." Mizuki was surprised by how effective it was. It seemed Fujin's studies had really paid off.

They then wandered around to look at the various designs for the Welcoming Party. Everyone in Tracen was wondering what Chairwoman Yayoi Akikawa had prepared for the Welcome Party after being out of sight for several days.

The anticipation was palpable.

Meanwhile, in the Tokyo countryside:

"Equinox, you're retiring just like that? You won't run one last Arima Kinen?"

"But a safe landing is good. I never expected Panthalassa to run a 57.6s Great Escape in that Japan Cup," Titleholder sighed. She was still frustrated, having lost not only to Equinox but also to Liberty Island and Stars on Earth.

However, with Equinox retired, maybe she could be the next Arima Kinen winner...?

Liberty Island was overjoyed. Had she really won the Triple Tiara? It felt natural, and she couldn't wait to share the news with her friends.

She imagined having countless fans in the future. Regarding her failure to catch Equinox, she accepted it— Equinox's strength was the pinnacle of the JRA, a true Horse of the Year.

She wouldn't be overly ambitious but would move forward step by step.

She felt like saying: "All eyes on me! In 2024, I, Liberty Island, will dominate the races!"

She would work hard with every fiber of her being. She felt more free than anyone else!

Panthalassa saw this and said, "My first 1000 meters were really fast! Aren't I amazing?!"

Through Seven Seas giggled. "You're Panthalassa, and I'm Through Seven Seas. That means I'm seven times stronger than you."

(T/N: Panthalassa roughly means "Universal Sea" or "Initial Sea.")

Kitasan Black heard this joke and could only think: 'President Rudolf, you have a worthy successor.'

Equinox was very happy, especially noting that in their era, there weren't many injuries, except for Ask Victor More who was sensitive to heat.

She would become the Horse of the Year, working step by step to create even greater records. The Japan Cup wasn't her end, she would keep running through the cycles of vernal and autumnal equinoxes, to the horizon where day and night meet.

Their running had no end.

At the Canopus lounge:

"Panthalassa really ran with her own personality. I need to get stronger too!" Twin Turbo declared. However, she was still dizzy and being cared for by Matikane Tannhauser.

After reading the diary, she had been so excited that she sprinted for several kilometers and immediately collapsed, giving everyone a fright.

"It's good that you've recovered," Ikuno Dictus said.

"Yeah, I thought you'd need to rest for hours," Matikane Tannhauser worried.

"I thought she was a goner," Nice Nature said with her usual nonchalance.

"Nature?! Why'd you say it like that?! Do you want me dead?!" Twin Turbo snapped, nearly fainting again.

On the other side of the Tracen track, a fierce battle was taking place.

"Damn... is this the gap between me and Almond Eye?" Contrail stopped to catch her breath, drenched in sweat.

The elegant and clear presence of Almond Eye was far stronger than she had imagined. No wonder Deep Impact told Contrail that her greatest rival might be Almond Eye, and that to surpass her, she should first Almond Eye her.

'I wonder how strong she'll be when she's in her prime,' Contrail thought.

She believed that once she reached her own prime, she wouldn't lose. She knew from the diary that while Almond Eye was powerful, she was on a slightly different level compared to Deep Impact's dominance in the JRA.

She still had a long way to go to surpass Deep Impact. Instead of being discouraged, her fighting spirit burned brighter.

"Contrail, that was a delightful race." The beautiful Almond Eye didn't hold back her praise. "In the final sprint, you almost caught me in just a few steps. You truly are the Uma Musume both Lord Kanaloa and Deep Impact value."

Almond Eye had been training with Lord Kanaloa, her "father", and she had heard from her that although Deep Impact was an Uma of few words, she paid close attention to Contrail, saying she would become formidable once she matured.

"In the future, can I run with you again?"

Almond Eye reached out her hand. The way she smiled in that moment was breathtakingly beautiful.

Looking at Almond Eye's lovely face, Contrail felt her face flush for some reason. Her heart raced— a fluttering sensation like meeting someone she truly liked. Suddenly lost for words, she could only stammer:

"O-Oh... of course! Opportunities to run and train with such an amazing Uma Musume don't come often. I look forward to working with you."

Good grief, Contrail actually got shy. As expected, she's truly hopeless before Almond Eye.

While the two young Uma Musume were communicating, a figure with an elegant, tranquil, yet subtly majestic aura walked over to Lord Kanaloa. It was Sunday Silence.

His importance to the JRA is self-evident. He is the "Father of Modern Japanese Racing"— not only a US Horse of the Year but also the former champion sire of Japan.

Legends like Agnes Tachyon, Special Week, Manhattan Cafe, and Silence Suzuka are all his children.

Sunday Silence's strongest offspring is none other than Deep Impact, who stands at the absolute pinnacle of the JRA, making Contrail his "precious grandchild."

"They're quite good. Those two have a bright future," Sunday Silence said to Lord Kanaloa.

"Yes. I wonder who would win in a real race. By the way, Sunday Silence, didn't Nippo Teio come with you?" Lord Kanaloa asked.

"I'm here. I was just focused on a certain race," Nippo Teio said, walking over with a smile.

Many might not recognize her name, but Nippo Teio was a powerhouse with three G1 victories, including the Autumn Tenno Sho, Mile Championship, and Yasuda Kinen.

After he won the Autumn Tenno Sho as the first favorite in 1987, no first-favorite horse could win that race for the next twelve years. He was essentially the progenitor of the jinx until T.M. Opera O finally broke it.

Though some are unfamiliar with Nippo Teio, if you mention he is the father of Haru Urara, then they'll understand.

"The race... you mean Urara's race? Has it started yet?" Sunday Silence asked apologetically. "Sorry, I got a bit dizzy reading the logs earlier. I should have watched with you."

"After all, Urara is a child you watched grow up, and she was very respectful to me when she was little."

Nippo Teio smiled. "It's fine. That child Urara, no matter how many times she fails, she always works hard. But this time feels a bit different. She seems very confident, likely due to Trainer Mizuki's guidance."

Sunday Silence nodded. "Trainer Mizuki... her insights are indeed impressive. She has some 'New Era' running styles I've never seen before. It's very beneficial."

Lord Kanaloa added, "That's good. Was Urara's draw okay? Check her horseshoes before she enters the gate, make sure she doesn't throw off a shoe."

Nippo Teio nodded while opening a livestream of Tokyo Racecourse. "There's still a little time. I just called Urara, she's in great spirits. She's going to charge for the finish as a Front Runner."

"I just told her to let go and run with everything she has. But a style like that sticks to the front group and creates distance early on, so she has to be extra careful of anyone coming from behind. She can't let her guard down."

Sunday Silence nodded. "But Nippo Teio, why didn't you go to the track in person?"

"Two reasons. First, I'm afraid she'll get nervous. Second, I'm afraid I'll get too nervous and affect her," Nippo Teio said, visibly trembling.

It was clear she was more anxious than Urara herself.

"Trust in her. I believe that today's Urara will definitely take the win," Sunday Silence smiled.

Usually, everyone would be too busy to attend a debut race, but since today was a holiday, many went to cheer for Urara.

Team Spica went in full force. Being a rich young lady, Mejiro McQueen called for a family car to bring everyone from Spica and Canopus.

Meanwhile, Mizuki rode her reward, the Kawasaki Ninja H2, taking Nice Nature to the shopping district to buy cheering supplies for Urara.

After a bit of practice (and a lot of help from Vodka), Mizuki had more or less mastered the art of motorcycle riding.

Or at least, she's good enough to avoid hitting any stationary objects.

Since today's race was a Newcomer race, there weren't many official goods available yet. Nature had already arranged with the uncles and aunties in the shopping district to make a "Go Urara!" banner and Urara plushies.

Shopping district goods were cheaper and cuter than the ones near Tokyo Racecourse anyway. Nature was a sensible girl who knew the streets well and was quite popular.

Vodka had actually wanted to ride the Ninja H2, but Mizuki insisted on riding it herself. She knew from experience that once Vodka gets on a bike, she gets too hyped.

If someone says "Slower! Slower!", she hears "Faster! Faster!" and starts accelerating like crazy, taking corners like she's in Initial D.

Last time Mizuki rode with her, her face turned purple from terror.

"Hold on tight, Nature. We'll head straight to cheer for Urara after we get the stuff. The race is about to start," Mizuki said with a laugh.

"Okay! Talking through this helmet always has an echo," Nature said as she buckled up. Safety first.

Mizuki revved the engine and the Ninja H2 roared off.

Having a vehicle was truly great. In Mizuki's eyes, it beats taking public transportation any day.

They reached Tokyo Racecourse just before the start. Many were there, including Seiun Sky, T.M. Opera O, and King Halo, who had arrived early. McQueen's group just barely made it due to traffic.

Urara waved from below the stands: "Trainer Mizuki! Machi-tan! Neicha! You all came!"

"Good luck, Urara! Just run with the strategy I taught you," Mizuki called out. Urara already had a natural affinity for dirt tracks and had enough experience racing to be well-suited for the Front Runner style.

Combined with the cornering techniques she'd learned and her innate talent for slopes, the conditions were perfect for her first win.

As she spoke, a light rain began to fall.

Nature blinked. "Eh? Oh no, I forgot to check the weather. But rain affects dirt tracks much less than turf." She took off her jacket.

"Trainer, King Halo-san, come closer so you don't get soaked."

Mizuki was faster, she had already pulled her over. Her jacket was quite large, enough to cover all three of them. Nature froze for a moment, twirling her hair shyly.

Some people are experts at taking care of others but get awkward when they are the ones being cared for. She noted that Mizuki's jacket was indeed much larger than hers.

She tucked herself under the jacket and focused on the race. King Halo felt a bit embarrassed, she had been so focused on Urara that she hadn't reacted, and now she was being looked after by the other two.

She silently thanked them, deciding to treat everyone to food later.

Urara entered the gate. There were 8 horses in this dirt race. In the original JRA history, there were only 7, but now there was a #4: Haru Urara. She was the 3rd favorite.

The commentator's voice rang out:

[Tokyo Racecourse. Weather: Rain. What drama will today's race bring?]

[The 1st favorite is #7, Piano Solo, making her debut.]

[2nd favorite is #6, Rain Song, ready to go. Is the weather a good omen for her?]

[3rd favorite is #4, Haru Urara. Will she debut with a win today?]

[All runners are in the gates... AND THEY'RE OFF!]

Urara accelerated instantly, seizing the lead and taking the inner rail to save her legs.

"Urara's speed on the dirt is actually quite good!"

"Yes, but it's too early to tell. Piano Solo is catching up. She's the favorite, we have to be careful."

"But Urara is fast! She's pulling away! Go, Urara!"

"Hehe, Tokai Teio-sama has arrived! With me cheering, Urara definitely won't lose!" Teio laughed triumphantly, practically opening the champagne early.

[This is a 1600-meter track. Past the third turn, entering the final straight! The 1000m time was 1:01— they're setting an impressive pace early on!]

[Piano Solo is close behind! She's starting to accelerate!]

[The 200-meter slope of Tokyo is ahead! Has Urara accelerated?! She's pulling away from Piano Solo again!!]

On the track, Urara held the lead, gritting her teeth as she charged forward. She could maintain this speed because of the cornering skills she learned from Mizuki.

Urara tightened her jaw. She would not lose speed on the final slope.

She loved running so much that even if she lost, she would hold her head high and keep moving. But right now, she wanted to win more than ever.

She knew so many people were supporting her, looking for hope in her. She wouldn't let them down.

Urara had a natural talent for slopes. With her skills learnt from Mizuki and her innate gift [Super Duper Climax], she felt a surge of power as she hit the final incline.

However, behind her, Piano Solo was flying. As a Pace Chaser, it was natural for her to close the gap on a fading Front Runner. The crowd roared as the two competed for the lead.

King Halo was terrified, her hands gripping Nature's arm so hard she was sweating. Nature was just as nervous, watching this felt more stressful than running herself.

"She's going to get caught! Run, Urara!" Teio's face turned into a shocked emoji.

"Dammit! How? She had such a big lead!"

Twin Turbo said, "Eh? Is that strange? I'm used to it. But Urara's deceleration isn't bad. Turbo thinks Urara can win. Front Runners are invincible!"

Gold Ship, who had been watching quietly, spoke up: "Special-chan, take out the lucky charm Matikane Fukutaru gave you. The Great Shiraoki will protect her."

"As expected of Gold Ship-san! I almost forgot!" Special Week started rummaging through her pockets, only to cry out in horror: "Ah! I forgot to bring it!"

Gold Ship facepalmed.

"How could you forget something so important?!"

Daiwa Scarlet rubbed her head. 'Is this a sign of who'll win...?'

"Oh no, she's really going to catch her!" Grass Wonder gasped.

On the track, Urara and Piano Solo were neck-and-neck. Piano Solo, with her stamina advantage, pulled level and even edged ahead by a nose, but Urara surged back. The gap stayed within half a length— sometimes just a nose— of each other as they neared the finish line.

In a final, desperate burst of speed, they crossed the line together.

Flash! Flash! Flash! The finish-line cameras fired simultaneously.

Everyone was too nervous to speak. They waited for the result in a silence so thick you could hear the rain, the sound of people swallowing, and your own heartbeat.

Mizuki waited too.

In the original JRA history, Piano Solo won this race. If Urara won, she would be officially changing history.

After fifteen minutes of deliberation by the URA judges, the result was announced: It was a Dead Heat. Haru Urara and Piano Solo had crossed the line at the exact same time.

They were co-champions. Both would debut with a victory.

Mizuki's group erupted in joy. Urara's hard work had finally paid off. Even if it was a shared win, a victory is a victory!

Mizuki smiled. This way, the history of JRA was preserved, yet Urara's dream was fulfilled.

Urara was the happiest of all.

"Did I win? ...I finally won..."

Urara trembled with excitement. Her racing silks were covered in mud, but her smile was radiant. She waved frantically at her friends in the stands.

She stood there, watching her dream turn into reality. She hoped that those who believed in her would find inspiration in this race.

Her friends rushed down to surround her.

"That's our girl, Urara!" King Halo's eyes glistened with tears.

"King-chan..." Urara's expression broke, and tears finally fell. All the bitterness and struggle turned into tears of joy.

Mizuki looked away slightly. Special Week and McQueen were already sobbing. Even the "bratty" Teio was crying.

Nature looked down and wiped her eyes, while Twin Turbo was wailing at the top of her lungs.

"O~hohoho! Everyone, Urara won!" King Halo wiped her eyes and laughed again. She was truly happy for Urara, now, she could finally compete in higher-level dirt races.

"It's wonderful, everyone," Urara said, her face beaming. Despite the mud, she had finally achieved her dream.

Matikane Tannhauser was also delighted. "Mumu! I recorded Urara's running style today. It'll help me too! Can an ordinary girl like me win a championship too?"

Urara smiled. "Definitely."

Tannhauser gave a peace sign. "Mmm! I'll work hard too! Ei! Ei! Mun!"

Tokai Teio walked over with a cheeky grin. "Machi-tan, you better choose races where Teio-sama isn't competing! Otherwise, I'm not letting you take the trophy!"

Matikane Tannhauser maintained her signature silly smile. "Mmm! But I won't lose either, Teio. I've recorded a lot of your running style too, you know."

Teio laughed. "Oh, really? I'll have to see about that when the time comes."

The group chatted for a while, waiting for Urara to finish cleaning up before heading back to Tracen Academy. Everyone was undeniably happy today.

"Trainer Mizuki, can you let me ride the motorcycle later? It's just too cool," Vodka said, her eyes full of anticipation.

"Well, not for now. I've already received several reports from different parties saying you drive too fast," Mizuki replied, pretending like she wasn't one of the parties in question.

"Wait for a day when I can take you out for a few laps, then I'll watch you ride a bit before we hit the open road."

Mizuki didn't flat-out refuse, merely suggesting she needed more practice first. This cheered Vodka up significantly and dispelled her lingering resentment.

Mizuki had initially wondered if Uma Musume of their age were allowed to ride motorcycles. She later discovered that in the world of Tracen, as long as a Uma Musume has a license, she can ride.

Their youth lasts much longer than an average human's. For instance, Maruzensky is already driving supercars.

'But is Maruzensky really still in her youth? I find it a bit hard to believe...'

Soon, Urara emerged after her shower. At that exact moment, as if the sky itself were acknowledging her victory, the weather cleared. Bright sunlight spilled down, illuminating Urara's smiling face and warming everyone around her.

Mizuki looked at the group, they were all shining. They all had beautiful futures ahead. As long as they kept running forward, everything would turn out fine.

Now, everyone headed back to Tracen to prepare for tomorrow's Welcome Party. Mizuki wondered what kind of performances they would see. She knew the skit her team, Spica, had prepared was quite absurd— a script titled "Tracen's #1 Cooks!"

She was eager to see how Special Week and the others would perform as the leads. The entertainment value would definitely be maxed out.

The girls had chosen this kind of skit because their group was large. Originally, Fine Motion was under the protection of the Irish Embassy, and they were hesitant about her participating, so she hadn't joined a group.

However, Fine Motion wanted to join the fun herself and insisted on being in Trainer Mizuki's group, so there she was.

McQueen and the others took the car back, while Urara and King Halo shared another vehicle. Mizuki took Nice Nature back via the shopping district first.

Her clothes had been dried by King Halo. King Halo was actually very domestic and capable— a fact many students didn't know, assuming she was just a pampered "Ojou-sama" born with a silver spoon.

While she was indeed a wealthy young lady, she did all her own housework and was incredibly hardworking and kind. Though she could be a bit dramatic at times, she was a lovable and worthy Uma Musume.

In the Golden Generation, King Halo's record was arguably the most modest, often playing the supporting role. With 27 starts and only 6 wins, he lost to Special Week, Seiun Sky, and Grass Wonder, and suffered upsets against many newcomers.

Yet, despite facing defeat ten times over, he remained the embodiment of an unyielding spirit. In the final moments of his career, he achieved a nirvana-like victory, proving his pedigree.

His career went from a spotlighted king queen to a tottering throne, to a total fall to the bottom, and finally, a rebirth. He had stood on mountain peaks and fallen into deep valleys, growing through it all.

His story was one that moved countless people. His complicated history with the jockey family of Yoichi Fukunaga and Yuichi Fukunaga would be talked about for generations.

Mizuki soon arrived at the shopping district with Nice Nature.

Nature had come to take photos of the snacks and delicacies sold at Tokyo Racecourse to show the shop owners here. They could use them as a reference to improve their own business.

Because Nature did this often, she was highly respected in the district. Everyone gave her free food, and almost every shop had a Nature plushie on display.

They were all her "super fans." Nature always blushed with embarrassment whenever she saw the plushies.

Upon their return, Mizuki noticed Nature looking a bit off. Her face was unnaturally red, and she seemed dazed.

"Nature, you look a bit out of it. Drink some cold medicine to prevent a cold," Mizuki said. She hopped off the bike to get some medicine, then quickly brewed a cup.

"A-achoo!" Nature really did have a slight fever. If she didn't drink it now, she'd definitely be sick tomorrow.

Just then, a female owner of a clothing store called Nature inside. She was worried that Nature had caught a chill from the rain while wearing thin clothes.

She insisted on giving Nature a new outfit, framing it as a "modeling request" so Nature wouldn't feel bad about accepting it.

In truth, the owner was just being kind, Nature had helped her husband's restaurant flourish by providing photos and advice.

Mizuki accepted on Nature's behalf, making her quite embarrassed, but she thanked the owner and agreed to the request. Having Nature as a spokesperson would be a massive win for the owner once Nature's fame grew.

A moment later, Nice Nature walked out, and Mizuki's eyes lit up. As they say, "clothes make the man"— or in this case, the girl.

Nature wore a beautiful white coat with a stylish scarf and slim, warm trousers that accentuated her long, straight legs. She looked like the perfect "girl next door."

"Thank you, Trainer," Nature said. Her body temperature had returned to normal, and in her typical awkward way, she voiced her gratitude. If she hadn't taken the medicine early, she really would have been sick.

"It's fine. Just remember to balance work and rest," Mizuki replied before heading back. It was getting late, and she planned to take a shower and rest for the big day tomorrow.

The next day: January 30th. Satono Diamond's birthday.

As soon as Mizuki woke up, she saw messages from Kitasan.

[Kitasan Black: Trainer-san, today is Dia-chan's birthday! The cake we ordered will arrive tonight. Please call to confirm it later, and keep it a secret from Dia-chan!]

[Mizuki: Understood. I'll confirm it. I'll set up the decorations before the party ends. Have you thought of how to bring Dia in?]

[Kitasan Black: Not yet, but that's easy! Just leave it to me.]

[Mizuki: I've also arranged for a feast from a restaurant to be delivered. We can all eat together.]

[Kitasan Black: I'm so excited! Trainer-san, everything is ready!]

[Mizuki: Exactly right. When are you guys coming over?]

[Kitasan Black: Very soon! Everyone woke up early. I'll head to Spica later. Also, Trainer-san, the Chinese New Year is coming up! My father has sung in China before, maybe I should sing for you too~~]

[Kitasan Black: Don't worry, I learned from Dad, and even from Satono Crown! She's been to China and knows how to sing 'Gong Xi Fa Cai.']

[Mizuki: The moment you know 'Gong Xi Fa Cai,' you have fully mastered Chinese New Year culture.]

(T/N: "Gong Xi Fa Cai" roughly translates to "May you be happy and prosperous." There's a few New Years songs with the same name.)

Mizuki knew Kitasan Black had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. Being owned by Saburo Kitajima in real life, she inherited his vocal talent. She even considered herself a Uma Musume "born for the stage."

She imagined Kitasan singing "Gong Xi Fa Cai" in her signature high-energy style and couldn't help but chuckle.

[Mizuki: Come over quickly then. I'll wash up, and we can decorate the Spica room before the banquet. Then we can enjoy the Welcome Party! Our team is performing this year, maybe next year it'll be your turn.]

[Kitasan Black: Eh?! Then I have to watch closely. See you soon, Trainer-san!!]

While most were happy, there were exceptions like Cheval Grand.

Cheval Grand was already awake. She was plagued by severe social anxiety. For someone like her, knowing there's a party in three days means being nervous for three days straight.

By the time the party ends, she's more exhausted than if she had done thirty days of high-intensity training.

She was currently repeating the lines Verxina had taught her, looking incredibly tense.

"Uuu..." She sniffled. She decided to just take it one step at a time.

In fan creations, Kitasan, Diamond, Crown, and Cheval often form a "Bocchi the Rock" style group, with Cheval as the Bocchi of the bunch.

In the Tokyo countryside:

Kitasan had sent a "Happy Birthday" message to Dia-chan at midnight. When she saw Satono Diamond in person, she greeted her with joy and presented her first gift: A giant Satono Diamond plushie.

"Thank you, Kitasan. You've always been like this, giving me birthday wishes every year," Satono Diamond replied happily. "Next year, let's go to my house as usual. My sister said she prepared a banquet for me, though we can push it back a bit since there's the Welcome Party."

Kitasan kept a straight face. She had already coordinated with Satono Crown. "Hehe, thanks for the invite, Dia-chan! Let's make this birthday as joyful as a festival!"

Diamond, unaware of the surprise, smiled. "Mmm. My father and mother really want to hear you sing, Kitasan. They even want you to perform on the stage in our courtyard."

Kitasan rubbed her head shyly. "Ahaha... that would be fun. But I was really shocked when your dad asked if I wanted to sing the Satono Group's corporate jingle."

"He was probably just moved by your voice," Dia-chan giggled. "But soon we'll be entering the academy. We can think about real stages then."

Kitasan realized they were drifting off-topic. "Wait, we're getting away from your birthday! Come on, Dia-chan, get ready, let's head to Tracen!"

Equinox, Panthalassa, Through Seven Seas, Titleholder, Stars on Earth, and Liberty Island were all ready too. After wishing Dia-chan a happy birthday, they set off together.

At Tracen Academy:

Mizuki arrived at the Spica room. Special Week, Grass Wonder, El Condor Pasa, King Halo, Seiun Sky, and Silence Suzuka were all there, rehearsing their skit. They wanted Mizuki to give them some pointers.

Daiwa Scarlet, Vodka, and Aston Machan were in another group, preparing a live singing performance.

McQueen, Teio, Nice Nature, and Yamanin Zephyr were going to be performing Umapyoi Densetsu. Apparantely, Mizuki's rendition had inspired the girls to sing it themselves.

Outside the academy, the crowds were massive. Smart Falcon was busy handing out drinks and sharing her love with every bottle. Many young Uma Musume were enchanted, but then Curren Chan would come over, pat their heads, and gently lead them away.

Smart Falcon's face fell— all her little fans were being snatched by Curren Chan!

Duramente arrived, looking slightly less stern than usual. She greeted the newcomers of her lineage, Liberty Island, Titleholder, and Stars on Earth, offering to answer any questions they had.

Air Groove watched from afar, exasperated that Duramente couldn't be more proactive.

'She's in her teens but acts like she's in her thirties,' she thought.

Air Groove turned her head only to hear Symboli Rudolf telling a food-related pun to some young Uma Musume: She nearly fainted. Only Oguri Cap listened intently, nodding.

"So if I'm hungry, I should go to the subway... got it."

If Oguri actually went to the subway, she'd never make it back, her sense of direction was famously terrible.

Equinox's arrival drew a lot of attention. King Halo hit it off with her immediately, and they laughed together. Equinox also met Sakura Bakushin O and joined in her "Bakushin! Bakushin!" chants.

This kid really knew how to win people over.

Sweep Tosho met Piedra de Luna, and the two girls talked about all sorts of magical stories. WHen Piedra de Luna heard about the confusing info-dump that Zenno Rob Roy told Tosho, she was stunned.

Chairwoman Yayoi Akikawa and Tazuna Hayakawa revealed their secret project: A high-tech "Mini racecar" track.

It was a massive, spiraling track with gadgets that allowed Uma Musume to experience running alongside Mini racecars. Using VR gear, they could experience even greater speeds.

The Chairwoman decided this could be a new training method to boost Speed, Mood, and Guts.

Finally, evening arrived. The Welcome Party officially began in the grand hall. Inari One and Smart Falcon were invited as the hosts to kick off the night.

Whether she was lucky or unlucky, Special Week was the very first act of the night.

Don't let her small stature fool you— Inari One had incredible stage presence. As for Smart Falcon, the stage was her home turf.

The atmosphere was electric as she struck cute poses and winked at the crowd, captivating the young Uma Musume so much they dared not blink.

Falcon's fan count was skyrocketing by the second, and this time, Curren Chan wasn't around to steal her fans.

"Special Week-senpai and the others are starting..." Daiwa Scarlet murmured.

Sure enough, Smart Falcon announced the first program: "Tracen's #1 Cooks."

Today's performances officially began.

After the first program, McQueen, Teio, Nice Nature, and Yamanin Zephyr would have their time to shine.

They were joined by several other members of their respective teams, including Gold Ship, Twin Turbo, and Matikane Tannhauser.

While they danced their hearts out to Umapyoi Densetsu, many of the crowd found their eyes drawn towards Trainer Mizuki, who's face was as red as a tomato.

She could still vividly remember her own Umapyoi experience...
