The storm of magic faded, leaving behind only silence. Kevin's dorm was a ruin of floating debris settling softly to the floor papers fluttering down like exhausted snowflakes.
Derek sat perfectly still on his bed, golden eyes dimming back to normal, though faint traces of fire and frost still lingered around him. Kevin was breathing hard, gripping the sheets like they might keep him anchored to reality.
For a heartbeat, everything was still.
Then— The world reacted.
🕯️ The Council Awakens
Far beneath Velmora High, in the chamber of starlight, the Council of Balance stirred awake as the great crystal at the room's center blazed to life.
Its calm glow flared blood-red, then gold, then white colors of conflicting auras twisting together like storm clouds.
The vampire lord appeared first, materializing in a blur of mist. His crimson eyes narrowed. "That surge… it came from the upper dormitory."
The phoenix matriarch unfolded her wings, feathers gleaming. "Impossible. No student wields energy that potent."
The elf Headmaster appeared last, expression grim, his long silver hair trailing behind him like moonlight. "Not unless two of them resonated." "Resonated?" the werewolf general growled. "You mean merged."
The crystal flickered again, showing faint outlines two auras tangled together in one luminous pulse. One shimmered silver and starlit. The other burned gold and red, edged with shadow.
The witch elder hissed softly. "Stone… both of them."
The Headmaster's eyes darkened. "So, the prophecy wasn't just about the Chimera. The Eternal One is awakening as well."
A silence heavy enough to crush air filled the chamber. Finally, the phoenix spoke softly. "If they've found each other, the seals will weaken faster."
The vampire lord smiled thinly. "Then perhaps the world deserves to burn again."
The elf slammed his hand against the table, magic crackling. "Enough! I'll handle this." He turned toward the floating image — Derek and Kevin, both asleep in their beds now, unaware of the chaos they'd caused.
"They're just children," he said quietly. "And whatever their past may be, this time… they deserve the chance to choose their own fate."
The others said nothing, but as the crystal dimmed, the shadows in the corners of the room whispered of destiny and disaster.
🌤️ Morning at Velmora High
The next morning dawned far too bright. Kevin dragged himself into the dining hall, barely awake, his hair sticking up in wild directions. The pendant at his neck felt heavier than usual — pulsing faintly with warmth.
Students crowded the long marble tables, chattering over breakfast trays. The room buzzed with rumors.
"Did you feel that tremor last night?". "My whole dorm levitated!"
"Someone said the council ward was triggered—do you know how serious that is?"
Kevin dropped onto the bench beside Nia, burying his face in his hands. "Please tell me this isn't about me."
Nia raised an eyebrow. "Depends. Were you near an uncontrolled magical explosion around midnight?"
Kevin groaned. "I hate you." "Love you too," she said sweetly, sipping her coffee.
Across the hall, Derek entered — calm, unbothered, like he hadn't nearly caused a magical earthquake six hours ago.
He wore his uniform slightly undone, his silver hair catching the morning light, and every student in the room turned to stare.
Kevin peeked over his hands. Their eyes met for half a second — just enough for his heart to skip a beat.
Then Derek smirked, deliberately choosing the seat directly across from him.
"You sleep okay, roommate?" he asked, voice low.
Kevin stiffened. "Define okay."
"Didn't think so," Derek murmured, spearing a piece of fruit with his fork.
Nia leaned closer to Kevin, whispering, "You two are radiating serious tension right now." "Not tension," Kevin muttered. "Disaster." But even as he said it, he couldn't shake the image from last night — Derek's face in the dream, the fire and light that surrounded them both, and that impossible feeling of recognition.
He reached up, touching his pendant unconsciously. Across the table, Derek's hand brushed the silver chain around his neck one that looked eerily similar.
For a moment, both charms glowed faintly in sync unseen by anyone else.
High above the dining hall, in the observation tower, the Headmaster watched the two boys quietly through the enchanted glass.
"History repeats itself," he murmured. "Let's hope this time, they remember before it's too late."
