"Toad Boss!"
Naruto, carrying the Book of Sealing he had "stolen" from the Hokage Office, found Jiraiya at their agreed-upon location. He proudly placed the Book of Sealing in front of him and showed off, saying,
"I've completed your test!"
"It's Toad Sage—Sage—not Boss. Don't call me Boss!"
Jiraiya corrected Naruto irritably. He glanced at the Book of Sealing Naruto had brought back, his expression a little complicated, then waved his hand and turned away.
"You passed. Follow me."
Although the process of Naruto passing the test wasn't quite what Jiraiya had expected—and the method was also a little un-ninja-like—it was an undeniable fact that Naruto had successfully brought the Book of Sealing out of the Hokage Office. In some ways, he had even done better than Jiraiya had anticipated.
More importantly, through this test, Jiraiya had gained a much more intuitive understanding of Naruto's "talent."
"Oh!"
Naruto picked up the Book of Sealing and followed after Jiraiya, asking eagerly,
"Toad Boss—uh, Toad Sage—are you going to teach me the Ninjutsu inside this?"
Naruto had already tried. He couldn't open the scroll at all; otherwise, he would have read it himself long ago.
"Of course. Why else would I have you steal this thing?" Jiraiya replied without looking back. "But before I teach you the Ninjutsu in the Book of Sealing, I need to test your fundamentals. If your Chakra control and Ninjutsu basics aren't solid enough, you won't be able to learn what's inside."
As he spoke, Jiraiya led Naruto to a hot spring inn, then casually ordered the hottest bath available.
Naruto paid.
"Comfortable~!"
Jiraiya stripped down and let out a satisfied groan as he soaked in the hot spring. He glanced at Naruto and asked, "Kid, can you walk on water?"
"No."Naruto shook his head honestly. The Ninja Academy hadn't taught that yet.
"You can't?" Jiraiya frowned slightly and asked, "Then how did you use that Wind Release technique earlier—the one you used against Kakashi in the Hokage Building?"
"Kakashi? That one-eyed masked guy?" Naruto immediately realized who Jiraiya meant. His eyes lit up as he said excitedly,
"So you saw my fight with him? But what I used back then wasn't Ninjutsu—it was swordsmanship."
"Swordsmanship?" Jiraiya was surprised. "But you were empty-handed…"
He paused, then waved it off. "Never mind. Use it again. Let me see."
"Oh!"
Naruto nodded and demonstrated his No-Sword Style: Wind Breathing, just as he had when fighting Kakashi.
As he watched, Jiraiya did not sense even the slightest trace of Chakra flow, and his expression gradually turned serious.
Everything a ninja did was normally inseparable from Chakra—even Taijutsu. Yet Naruto's technique, from start to finish, used no Chakra at all. That meant a move comparable to a C-rank Wind Release technique had been executed purely through physical strength.
This completely overturned Jiraiya's understanding.
"Naruto," Jiraiya asked in a low voice, "where did you learn something like this?"
"This…" Naruto scratched his head awkwardly, his expression conflicted. He fidgeted, clearly unsure how to answer.
Even setting aside the system, he knew that even if he told the truth, no one would believe him.
"Can't say?" Jiraiya smiled when he saw Naruto's reaction and waved his hand. "Then don't explain."
Although he didn't get an answer, Jiraiya already had his own conclusions. He stopped dwelling on it and said,
"Alright. Refine your Chakra for me."
"Oh." Naruto nodded and formed a hand seal, beginning to refine Chakra.
"Wait!"
Jiraiya suddenly remembered something and stopped him. Pointing at Naruto's clothes, he said
"Take off your shirt first. Just the top."
"Oh…" Naruto did as instructed and then resumed refining Chakra.
As Chakra gathered within Naruto's body, complex patterns slowly emerged on his abdomen.
Jiraiya's brows furrowed slightly as he examined the seal. The Eight Trigrams Seal… the Double Four Symbols… and formulas even I don't fully understand. Some look like Chakra storage seals… Did Minato seal his own Chakra—and other formulas—together with the Nine-Tails into this child?
And these unfamiliar formulas… Flying Thunder God? That would explain Naruto's sudden disappearance and this so-called "other world."
Jiraiya understood Minato well. Whatever that "other world" was, Minato would never endanger his own child.
But—
This kid's Chakra volume…
Jiraiya stared at the massive amount of Chakra gathering around Naruto, his eyelids twitching slightly.
"Alright, stop."
Naruto halted and looked at Jiraiya curiously.
"I more or less know where to start with your training," Jiraiya said, standing up from the hot spring. "Let's begin with walking on water."
"The principle is simple. Gather Chakra in your feet and adhere it to the water's surface… like this."
Jiraiya lifted one foot and stepped calmly onto the water.
Naruto watched for a moment, then formed a seal, gathered Chakra in his feet, and stepped forward.
Stomp!
He stood firmly on the water's surface and looked at Jiraiya with a triumphant expression, as if to say: That's it?
"Not bad. Very good." Jiraiya smiled, then sank back into the hot spring lazily. "Next, maintain walking on water while continuously refining Chakra—until your Chakra is exhausted."
