"Hello, dear listeners and viewers of the radio broadcast. My name is Huang Jianxiang. You are watching the U16 European Junior Championship Final, held this year in the Czech Republic."
"The two teams facing each other today are Spain U16 and Portugal U16."
"The Spanish team has lined up in a 4-3-3 formation."
"The front three are Jorge Perona from Barcelona, Ernesto Gómez from Real Madrid, and Fernando Torres from Atlético Madrid. Among them, Torres is the most highly anticipated young striker."
"He led Atlético Madrid U15 to the final of the first Youth Champions League this year and won the Bronze Boot of the tournament."
"Of course, the team that defeated Torres was Sporting CP U15, led by Kai and Cristiano Ronaldo, who are on the opposite side today!"
"The Spanish midfield is very special. It can even be called the strongest midfield combination in this year's European Junior Championship. All of them come from Barcelona's youth academy."
"It is led by Andrés Iniesta, Barcelona's greatest midfield prodigy in the last twenty years, alongside Mikel Arteta, a young midfield artist."
"Because both players prefer attacking roles, Spain pairs them with a defensive midfielder — Gabi from Atlético Madrid. Gabi's defensive ability is excellent, and his playing style is quite iron-blooded, which helps cover some of Spain's weaknesses."
"The Spanish defensive line consists of Corrales from Real Madrid, Oleguer from Barcelona, Rubén González from Real Madrid, and Diego Alegre from Valencia."
"The goalkeeper is Pepe Reina, the talented keeper from Barcelona's youth academy. On the bench is Víctor Valdés, another brilliant product of Barcelona's system. Both young goalkeepers are extremely talented and are not inferior to the current Czech wonder-kid goalkeeper Petr Čech, who has been performing brilliantly in this tournament!"
Huang Jianxiang tried his best to explain the lineup clearly for the domestic audience.
After all, people at home knew very little about foreign youth-academy players.
To put it bluntly, aside from a few shorter players on the field, most of these kids already had the level to play in China's top leagues.
Now that players like Torres and Ronaldo were here, why wouldn't fans get excited?
"There is also good news for the Portuguese team. The previously injured striker Hélder Postiga has recovered and returned to the starting lineup. This restores Portugal's formation to its original shape."
"But their tactical setup today looks more like a 4-2-1-3, with Raúl Meireles sitting deeper and clearly taking on more defensive responsibility."
"Kai is playing as the single attacking midfielder. It seems that Kai's performance in the last match has earned the full trust of the coaching staff. He is very suitable for this position."
In the first five minutes of the match, the Portuguese team only had possession at kickoff.
Ever since Kai was knocked down and dispossessed by Arteta, the ball had basically stayed at the feet of Spanish players.
Spain's short-passing ground game was unbelievably smooth.
Following the tactics proposed by Triguera, Portugal tried an early high press, attempting to challenge Spain head-on.
But Spain's ball control ability was far beyond everyone's expectations.
Not only did Portugal fail to win the ball back, Iniesta even used the pressure to his advantage.
He faked a pass, dribbled forward, and immediately created danger.
Then Iniesta slipped the ball to Fernando Torres.
Torres received the ball in the penalty area and, with a single touch, laid it off to striker Ernesto Gómez.
That attack almost tore through the entire Portuguese defense.
Fortunately, Gómez slipped slightly while shooting, and José Fonte seized the moment to poke the ball away.
Goalkeeper Eduardo Valais quickly gathered the ball.
Fans from both sides were excited.
But no one expected that this would be the most exciting moment of the first half.
For the next thirty minutes, the Spanish team kept circulating the ball in their own half.
They wanted to lure Portugal forward.
But the Portuguese players, still sweating cold bullets from that early scare, refused to move.
No one was stupid enough to charge out and get their cut cock handed to them by Spain's passing machine.
Whenever Spain carried the ball into Portugal's half, the previously passive Portuguese players suddenly pressed aggressively.
Postiga, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kai, and even Ricardo Quaresma all made physical challenges during the defensive phase.
Coincidentally, the referee's standard today was relatively loose.
Under that pressure, the Spanish players often had no choice but to pass the ball backward.
For half an hour, there wasn't a single dangerous attack.
A match like that? Anyone watching would fall asleep.
40th minute.
Spain once again carried the ball into Portugal's half.
Ronaldo immediately rushed forward to press.
Kai joined Ronaldo in a pincer press and successfully intercepted Arteta.
But Kai didn't even have time to clear the ball before Gabi, who had followed closely, stole it from him.
Gabi passed back to Arteta.
Arteta immediately played a through ball, finding Torres, who had dropped deep.
Torres received the ball, flicked it back with his heel to Iniesta, and spun forward.
Iniesta returned the pass instantly.
The ball rolled perfectly back to Torres.
Spain's tight passing combination sliced straight through Portugal's defense.
One-on-one!
Facing the charging Valais, the technically brilliant Torres stayed calm. He flicked the ball past the goalkeeper and calmly pushed it into the empty net.
1–0!
The Matador Army defeated Portugal using the weapon they knew best — passing football.
Huang Jianxiang could only shake his head.
"There's really nothing Portugal could have done. They already performed at their limit. But Spain's passing ability is simply irresistible. Their coordination and football philosophy are extremely advanced."
"Of course, I hope domestic football doesn't blindly imitate this style. This kind of system only works when the players themselves have strong individual ability."
"Every player in this Spanish team is comfortable on the ball. Even the seemingly rough-looking Gabi is the core midfielder of Atlético Madrid U15. He may look like a construction worker, but the man can embroider with the ball."
"So Portugal is now in big trouble. It's very hard for them to get possession against Spain."
"They will eventually be forced to push forward, and that will give Spain even more opportunities."
"Unless Portugal has a superstar who can change the game… otherwise the match is basically over."
As if to confirm Huang Jianxiang's prediction, Spain continued to dominate possession over the next few minutes while Portugal chased shadows.
45th minute.
Postiga, Ronaldo, and Kai surrounded Iniesta.
Iniesta passed the ball sideways to Arteta, but the future Arsenal manager made a rare mistake while controlling the ball, and it bounced slightly away.
Kai immediately turned and slid in.
Arteta had time to clear the ball before Kai's tackle arrived.
But he chose to dodge it.
After all, Spain were leading. Why risk injury against desperate opponents?
Even if Kai stole the ball once, what could he possibly do?
Boom!
Kai's tackle smashed the ball away.
Postiga, who had joined the press, collected the ball and quickly passed it to the right.
Quaresma received it on the wing, beat his defender with a quick move, and immediately switched into his signature inside-cutting mode.
