Chapter 14 - The Woman Behind The Empire

Jasmine just felt off about their relationship now, even though they have been together for years, but all of a sudden, he looks so not interested in her anymore. It didn't happen in a shouting match. There was no throwing of rings or tears, and a runaway bride show in the rain, and it wasn't whispered behind closed doors.

It happened in front of some staff who watched through the glass door; she did it simply. Jasmine stood in the doorway of Julian's office, arms folded, her engagement ring wasn't on her finger but in her palm, heartbreak hidden beneath her poise. "I'm not doing this," she walked into his office unannounced and said softly. Julian (in Brown's body) looked up slowly, exhausted. "Doing what?" "Pretending you still love me." "Pretending you're still you." She placed the engagement ring on his desk. Cold. Final. Gleaming under the fluorescent lights. She ended it just like that, he felt pity now for the real Brown Caldwell (in Julian Body), "I don't know who you are anymore, Julian. And I'm done waiting to find out." Then she walked out, and he just stared at her as she walked out of his office. He sat in awe, "What has he done, everybody will hear of it", he said to himself. He's beginning to hate this world.

The news spread like wildfire in New York City within one week, and the headlines were everywhere.

All the staff in the company stared at the large TV in the lobby, watching the latest news and headlines from their office.

BREAKING: Amira De Fernandez, CEO's Engagement Called Off, Rumors of Internal Rift Rock Corporate Giant

Julian (in Mr Brown's body) sat on his chair and watched the news feed on his TV. He knows he has brought trouble already to the company. The company buzzed like a live wire; their phones buzzed. Brooke was fielding phone calls from PR.

Legal had already asked for statements. Even security had been doubled. People were all over their ffeedson IG and Facebook asking whether the rumours are true. Brown (In Julian's body) kept on watching the news. He was very angry: "What the fuck have you done, Julian Blackwood?, he clenched his teeth together; he was very furious. News feeds exploded. Emails whispered. By noon, Brooke had whispered to Joshua, "She hasn't been seen in New York in two decades. But she's coming." He didn't believe it. Joshua never imagined he would call off his engagement with Jasmine, or was it because of what happened last night, but there's no way she could find out. The atmosphere was filled with gossip and chit-chat. Just then, everything became silent when they saw the black car pull up outside. It was a luxurious Venza model car, the most expensive and latest in town. After some seconds. The double doors opened.

And Amira walked into her empire. She wore a black floor-length coat. Hair tied back in a perfect twist. Eyes shielded by designer sunglasses that she removed in one slow, calculated motion. Her face was so cold, fair and beautiful, the real Brown Caldwell in Julian body hasn't seen his mother in like 10 years, over a little heated argument they parted for a while, she stepped into the building and the first thing she did, she stole a short glance at Julian Blackwood, who stood in one corner watching his mother in the building. Julian stood frozen as he watched her walk down to the elevator without knowing her son wasn't in his real skin. The door dinged, and she stepped in. She hadn't been to New York in over 15 years; she fled the country with Little Brown after the incident. After he grew up, he came to New York to rule over her company, but she never set foot there until this day. Not once. Not even when Brown Caldwell took over the company. She ran things from Paris, Rome, and Dubai, always above it all. But now… she was here.

Amira stepped out in heels that clicked like judgment and a coat sharp enough to draw blood. "Where is he?" she snapped. Brooke stammered. Amira's voice was cold steel. "My son has destroyed a public engagement, embarrassed my name, and let a scandal crawl into this company. Someone, tell me what the hell is going on here." Her eyes landed straight on Julian (in Brown's body). "Brown Caldwell. In my office. Now." And just like that, Julian knew; She doesn't know the truth. But she senses it. Julian blinked. "Ma'am"

"Don't speak. Just follow. If I wanted any damn explanation from you, I'd have asked a week ago when the rumours started." He followed her silently, but deep down, he was dying inside. She stopped just before her glass office doors. "You embarrassed me. You embarrassed this company. And you let a woman with my blood walk away in public like a servant's child." "I don't care what your excuse is. Fix it. Or I will. And also, I don't want Mrs Natasha meddling in this, you know how I hate her" She opened the doors and vanished inside like a storm shutting itself in, and Brown just stood there glaring at the door before walking inside.
