Chapter 5 - V

Nyssa

I stood outside the Lutin airport, I was engulfed by nostalgia at the sight of the city.

The city that took everything from me. The city that remade me.

It's been six years since I left, yet it seemed like yesterday.

My body felt heavy as old wounds resurfaced. My heart bled as I again recalled Zoya and how tragically I had lost her.

"Dr. Sia Jones?" A voice called from behind me.

I turned slowly to find a man standing behind me with a name card with 'Dr. Sia Jones' written boldly on it.

"That's me..." I nod, offering a small smile.

"Welcome to Sydney." He muttered, as he handed me a bouquet of flowers. "I'm Felix, Beta and personal assistant to the Alpha king."

"Come," he walked forward, ushering me towards the parking lot. "The Alpha King is waiting."

The car was a fancy SUV, white in color, and was parked alongside two other cars.

The car swung open before I attempt to open it, revealing a man sitting comfortably at the back seat. His long legs were leisurely crossed. He looked like a demi god on his throne.

"Dr. Sia Jones," he acknowledged me, his amber eyes looked like they were staring into my bones.

"Your....Alpha...." I paused, carefully thinking of the right way to address the man.

"Just Alaric is fine," his husky voice landed like a bomb.

That voice....

There was something familiar about his voice.

"No." I replied to my inner voice. There's probably a mix up.

How could the Alpha King's voice sound familiar when I've never met him before now.

During my time as Louis's Luna, he never took me out. He was too ashamed to take me to social gatherings. I was literally confined to the pack house.

My life only evolved around Louis, the house and Zoya.

I never even got to address or stand before the pack as their Luna, yet I was foolish enough to think that I belonged there.

It's a good thing that that naive little Nyssa died along with Zoya.

Now, I'm Dr. Sia Jones, and I'm the hope that the werewolf world sought.

"Here," Alaric passed me a file without looking towards me. "Everything you should know is in there."

He didn't dilly-dally.

"What about the ones I shouldn't know?" I wanted to be sure I wasn't going in blind.

If I'm to cure his sister, I need to know all there is to know about her illness and symptoms along with the reports from her previous doctors and healers.

"I'll have Felix fill you in," he immediately returned to whatever he was doing on his computer.

Who would have thought that this same man...this Alpha...King spend a whole year beseeching that I save his sister?

Anyways, I wasn't here for conversation too.

So, without delay I opened the file and went through the reports.

I frowned as I saw the magnitude of her illness.

"Outside your jurisdiction?" He asked, finally looking my way.

"What?"

"Ultra Vires?" He repeated, this time in latin.

I couldn't help rolling my eyes. "Estne hoc ultra meam moderationem?" I moved to the edge of my seat. "Non, peiora vidi"

Thanks to a parting gift from someone six years ago, I took basic latin lessons.

I can't believe he has doubts about my capabilities. Why then did he spend a whole year niggling me.

"I wouldn't be Dr. Sia Jones if this...." I raised the file and scoffed. "... bothers me,"

"Alright then, how long and how much?" He was back to typing on his computer.

"Stop the car," I bellowed.

The driver glanced through the mirror for Alaric's consent which happened to be a qslight raise of his brow.

"Can't say how long until I've met the patient," I paused and picked my purse. "And how much...." I opened the car door and stepped out. "I'll tell you when I'm done."

Alaric

She closed the door with a soft thud as she got out. I looked at the empty spot beside me and sighed.

I meant to say something else but ended up saying something else.

For some reason my whole body had been worked up since she stepped inside the car.

Dr. Sia Jones.

My usually calm wolf had been jogging close ever since he caught her scent. For some reason she smelled familiar.

It's been six years since I had been in such a close proximity with a woman and that's probably why I found her familiar.

As odd as that sounds, that seemed like the only explanation for finding a stranger familiar.

According to background reports, Dr. Sia was originally from Ireland, but after losing everything she held dear, she left for the States, furthered her education and became world's most sought after doctor.

Though, I still think she's over hyped.

I mean, how can someone so tiny be so capable?

How could she heal all those people as claimed by the media?

When I made that reservation a year ago, I just did it because I had promised to do anything and everything to save my sister Regina.

The doctors said she was beyond redeeming as the wolfsbane poison has gone deep into her. It's starting to eat up her liver and they think she wouldn't last three months.

When I heard about this doctor that supposedly has a cure to wolfsbane poison, I decided to give her a try.

I don't know what I was expecting, but I definitely wasn't expecting someone so tiny and beautiful.

'...and surprisingly familiar.'

Knux, My wolf groaned in my head.

'she smells like our mate, the lady from that night.'

I pinched my nose bridge as I'm reminded of that night six years ago.

The night I had foolishly embraced a weakness.

'Do. Not. Mention.That.night.' I snarled.

'Why not?' he countered, refusing to back down. 'We lost our mate that night.'

'And I didn't try searching?' if I could murder my wolf right now, I would, because the mention of that woman was again storing me up.

'You did. But you and I know that this Dr. Jones.... She is the closest thing to our mate that we ever met since we lost her six years ago.'
